Does anyone else think that Archangels are a complete waste of time?

I always feel like I'm low on scrap. I figure that's a theme of the game, being constantly low on resources, but even then fuel's not really an issue and water is kind of irrelevant (kind of wish there was a thirst system in place where you need to keep yourself topped up or suffer reduced max health or something). Also I discovered that if you keep getting into your car on the left side Chum comments on it asking why you seem to be confused as to the position of the wheel. Somebody mentioned that you might get the "original" wood sawed off back at some point--is this true? I don't mind being constrained to two barrels, I just want that sexy shotgun in my holster. quote="VulgarandStupid" post="449940183"] Does anyone else think that Archangels are a complete waste of time? [/quote] I haven't really found a use for them, myself. I've had more success with vehicles I configure on my own.

VulgarandStupid posted:Does anyone else think that Archangels are a complete waste of time? Yes, although design templates aren't necessarily a bad idea, you always revert to something that you build yourself. I never get tired of driving around covered in dead warboys, so full boarder spikes is a must. It's one of those dangling things that make you suspect that there was another six months of game to flesh out, as Rinkles said. Palpek's point about a Nemesis system would have made it utterly awesome, because the top dogs are, at the moment, a fairly bare boss system that considers of dodging a lot. I'm still happy with the purchase though. They really made it look amazing. Edit: I don't think I'm really running short on resources after completely upgrading Jeet. Each hour brings in around 200 scrap, and I'm taking the odd scrapulance and muthaloot box to top that up. Pacing means that I'm pretty well upgraded for blowing through Gutgash's missions. Fuel only gets scarce if I stay out a lot, but there are enough scavenging locations that nothing has been a huge resource problem. Hav fucked around with this message at 18:35 on Sep 8, 2015 |

King Vidiot posted:So you've been in a War Crier-buffed brawl with 20 guys doing counterable attacks against you, while you're doing an attack animation and getting pummeled from 10 different angles, and lived? The camera angles are the biggest problem, but it sounds like you aren't making much use of evade. Dodge out of combat until you get a better angle and can just smack one guy in the pack. Rinse and repeat until you get fury mode, then stomp them. I've also never let a war crier get his buff off either. Run in/evade the ground troops and shotgun him down. Cream-of-Plenty posted:Somebody mentioned that you might get the "original" wood sawed off back at some point--is this true? Dodge and parry are great tools, don't neglect them. Also don't neglect light strikes. Heavy strikes are cool but the time they take to wind up can end up costing you.

-Troika- posted:Is the final harpoon upgrade worth getting? I don't really want to do all those minefields in Jeet's area You need it for the top tier scarecrows, yeah. Also for new game+, I wonder how feasible it'd be to get a trainer, give yourself all the late game upgrades, but somehow buff enemies. Turning off counter prompts would be a good start. This is one of the few open world games where I heartily suggest blasting through the story as quickly as possible, because when you beat the game, you unlock Max's original movie outfit, original movie shotgun, and the V-8 Interceptor, which just makes the whole drat game feel better when you're running around clearing out the wastes.

Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling it would be a situation of "you can get your shotgun back but you'll have to pry it out of his cold dead hands"--at least I have the opportunity to retrieve it (eventually) I suppose. These pipe and zip guns just don't have the same aesthetic appeal! Upgrading Max's melee move set is one of the first things I do because it makes melee combat so much more entertaining. Once you can violently disarm attackers with perfect parries and various shiv-related attacks, the hand-to-hand combat starts to feel more involved than simply parrying attacks and punch-punch-punch. Which isn't to say that the melee combat is bad in the beginning--it's still very visceral and satisfying. The extra stuff just adds some more flavor and a little more depth to the fights.

Collect those cars with cogs above them or fish in storms. All other ways are inferior and should be ignored. Don't bother fishing around bases for scrap, or looting wrecks, you're just wasting time.

Mad Max 2, given a good amount of development time, will be absolutely terrific. Avalanche made a great base game in which to expand upon. I hope the sales numbers merit a sequel.

Honestly, overthrowing camps has been the biggest earner for me so far. Every so often 200 scrap just shows up in my inventory, usually, right when I need it.

I really wish there were enemy vehicles with War Boys riding in back throwing thundersticks. Feels like the one missing piece for car chases, a vehicle which isn't trying to ram you but is instead playing keep-away trying to get some ranged attacks in. The friendly fire potential alone would be hilarious. I imagine right now their hands are full working on patches for the launch bugs, but I hope they announce plans for DLC or gameplay updates. Still crossing my fingers for a hard mode, NG+ with the unlocked endgame items. Base game is fine, gimme a challenge mode for us masochists to lose ourselves in.

I don't know if they throw or suicide bomb you with them, because nailing them with a thunderpoon is probably my greatest joy in this game.

The game was most fun and full of promise when I was hoarding shotgun shells and desperate for water; after you have those in abundance, it loses a really fun aspect of exploring the wastes. I feel like the developers had a more unique vision that got dumbed down quite a bit; the basic Shadow of Mordor mechanics are still fun but there could have been a lot more there.

Agreed, which is why once I unlocked the equipment you get from beating the game, I went back and downgraded as much equipment as possible. Sure, you still loot a shitton of ammo due to your skills, but if you use a poorer ammo belt, you can't carry more than a couple of shells.

The flavour text for The Big Nothing is a bit of a tease. Pretty much says heading east will kill you, but south and west the plains go on forever. I died heading south though. Still want to test this out some time. I just know there have to be Easter eggs out there somewhere. I doubt they put in the moutains and green places and the Big Wet, but I'm convinced there's something, SOMETHING out there. I may have desert madness, but I need to go and look.

If you drive too far out, you run into a bunch of annoying kids in an airplane fuselage and the whole game turns into an escort mission.

Call me crazy but I would kind of like to see a few more guns in the wastes (like in the movies). I don't want to turn the game into a third person shooter, but instead something like Condemned: Heavy emphasis on fists and blunt objects, with the occasional scrap submachinegun wildcard or zip gun that can abruptly change the way you approach a group of enemies.

Maybe not a submachine gun, but i'd love a handheld flamethrower or something. Treat it like a normal melee weapon we already have in. Also let me use a flare to shoot people in the face and burn them to death or something.

Just beat the game: ending was a downer, but kind of figured it would end up that way. If anything, the events of the game really emphasize what a headcase Max is. I mean, if you think about it, he spent all this time trying to get his car back, killed 2,000 Warboys, knocked down some massive gate, helped stage the insurrection of 4 fiefdoms, won countless death races, killed one of Immortan Joe's sons, but everybody that was really close to him died. And all those people died because Max was a selfish rear end in a top hat. He could've taken Hope and her kid along, could've used a thunderpoon to knock the Land Mover off that cliff, SOMETHING, but no, he had to have his revenge, and it had to be at the cost of everybody involved. But if it wasn't, then maybe he wouldn't be the Stone Cold Badass he was in the Fury Road movie?
