The only thing a DS ever said that was unironically true is "the Army is a small place, you will see these people again." Even though I'm NG I've seen SO MANY people from BCT/AIT/Reclass school/Reclass school Part Deux/WTC/Deployment over and over again all over the loving place.

Kiryen posted:You mean with artillery? Do they just not bother to check firing data in the FDC these days? The last BN I was in had the habit of blaming firing incidents on the FOs. None of the senior leadership on the officer side knew much about gunnery, so senior 13Bs were able to convince them that it must be TLE. Of course, this ignores the fact that in garrison a firing incident involving the wrong grid may start with the FO, but if the rounds actually get fired there are several other people on the gun side that should have caught and stopped it. So when a PLT did a hip shoot and shot out of the safety box was there an investigation? Nope, it was the FISTer's fault, and we'll let it slide I guess. We actually had an OPD on it, and the BC got up there and basically said that all the FISTers sucked at their jobs because we couldn't calibrate our LLDRs properly or something. He also said several things that are doctrinally false, like shift from none point implies a large TLE. God I hated that man.

Mike-o posted:The best piece of equipment and electronics can't stop retards from being retards. We had something similar happen in Afghanistan to our 2nd platoon. There was an Afghan 105mm battery at a FOB a couple of miles away from us and of course they never bothered letting us know when they were doing a mission. One day, the ANP checkpoint maybe 50m from the FOB exit (it was so close you could actually see it from the ground if you stood at the right angle and looked out) comes under attack. As I'm listening to it unfold from our motor pool, all of the sudden we hear what sounds like incoming followed by several massive whumps waaaaay too close to the FOB. I turned to the BDOC net and the guards at the ECP were flipping out because the Afghan battery was sending rounds within about 150m of their position.

We had a battery of Afghans on the D30. Of course they never told us when they were firing, but we drat sure called up the Frenchy LNO supervising them to prevent shooting while our guys had TICs. Who was supplying 105mm to Afghans? D30s used 122mm shells and had a cool direct fire mode for sniping tanks, because trying to hit tanks in indirect mode is a stupid waste of ammo.quote:The non-reciprocating sights are standard Soviet pattern, designed for one-man laying. Included are a direct fire anti-tank telescope, a panoramic periscopic indirect-fire sight (dial sight) in a reciprocating mounting, an angle of sight scale, and a range drum for each charge engraved with the range (distance) scale. The elevation leveling bubble is mounted on the dial sight mount. The range drum enables the standard Soviet technique of semi-direct fire when the piece is laid visually on the target and the range set on the range drum.

Oh my God, how have I not thought of this before? Have someone pull stats from AMEDD and the VA about all non-combat, preventable sports medicine type injuries and the resulting disability claims then take those reports and tie a rope with it. Take that rope, tie it into a noose, and put it around the neck of every stupid cocksucker responsible for ruining the shoulders, backs, knees, ankles, and feet of their soldiers in the name of hooah and motardedness and because we've always done it this way. Oh, or my personal favorite: Let's run 5 days a week because I'm a loving lazy uninventive oval office that can't be bothered to put any actual effort into planning PT or even delegating to someone that can do more than suck the chrome off my truck's hitch from ten meters. gently caress that poo poo, take those goddamn numbers and have a running tally their entire careers, bolded in nice big letters on their ERB or ORB. LtCol X has crippled 837 soldiers under their command over their 18 years of distinguished service. I, along with any medic that actually gave a poo poo and was tired of seeing genuinely broken people treated like lepers, would be more than happy to cinch that particular noose down nice and tight. Every provider I've ever worked with would be more than happy to help out by taking a loving running start and kicking those cunts off a cliff.

gently caress that, all those problems happened to other people. Wouldn't even begin to register in their minds to have a chance at bothering them. Probably find a way to be proud of those stats, somehow. Sounds impossible but it's been done, often. No, the only response is obviously to be shocked at the cost of the VA, then defund it to put more money into the F35.

brakeless posted:Uhh, entertain a lurker here. What does permanent profile mean, like how hosed up do you need to be to get put on it? Profiles that last longer than 12 months are supposed to be assessed to become perm profile, usually they're for stuff that you can't really treat like lower back pain, knee pain, etc. It has more to do with issues that can't be resolved or ones that will be exacerbated by X related activity. Even permanent profiles are supposed to be reviewed every 3 or 5 years though I think.

If I had been staying in I would have gotten permanent profile for having to open up my foot, cut the bones, put them back where they should be then plate/screwn the whole mess in place. Generally it's for people the army has broken in ways like "this xray shows my knees are going to need replaced soon and when I get artificial joints the docs don't want you loving them up again". It's only after that happens, and you do profile PT, that you get away from "run four times a week, ruck march on Friday" and are allowed to exercise intelligently without loving yourself up. Because hooah.

I had a permanent profile for push-ups and running when I got out. Permanent right wrist pain if I press on the bottom of my right hand too hard, and plantar fasciitis with moderate bone spurs under both Achilles' tendons. I get zero disability for this, though, since you don't have to run or push on things a lot to hold a job, I guess.

I've worked in army medicine for 5 years and soldiers are loving retards who don't know their rights, but also army medicine sucks because half the doctor are dudes who either couldn't get hired in the civilian world or are literally doing their residencies. Because one person freaked out when I told them about my surgery on said clacker and resulting profile. I was given that profile for a problem with my autonomic nervous system that pretty much hosed up all my subconscious body systems. Real doctors ruled out anything hereditary and thought it was most likely caused by an infection or something like the anthrax vaccine. That profile was the ultimate get of jail free card for my last year or two of playing Army. The profile said I wasn't allowed to do anything, but I enjoyed my actual job and was actually really good at it so my bosses just let me come in just for that and go home whenever I wanted. By the time I got out I hadn't been to a single NCOPD, formation, suicide prevention class, etc in over a year. I didn't even know the name of my company commander or 1SG or what they looked like. Too bad I am still hosed up after getting out, but at least I get the sweet sweet 100% P&T paycheck to make it hurt a little less.

I'd say it's a huge a component. It's why a doctor just can't write down a quite note saying "hey, don't do anything that will gently caress with this guys knee, it needs some rest" Twice a full bird colonel from medical has given me his number with the express instructions of calling them immediately if anyone at all wants to gently caress me up even worse. I only had to use it once and that was when the battalion commander of 2-9IN ordered me to go to a tank gunnery as a driver when I had both bones in my forearm broken. I actually had to make that call and next thing you know I'm with headquarters platoon.

Its the sole reason, and even then dipshit ncos will still try to get around it and gently caress you up more. All of this was just over our deployment: 3-21 is where they hazed a kid to suicide (Danny Chen, it made international news), and where someone tried to set up a soldier under my care to get killed in retaliation for testifying at the court martial resulting from that suicide. 1-5 tried to circumvent the brigade S3 and submit their ops directly to RC-S without even telling us about it (same guy mentioned earlier that got caught stroking to porn on SIPR; brigade S3 and LNO to RC-S tore him a new one, and let me listen in on the tearing) and 5-1 Cav was just a shitshow to start with (due to being Cav, before any other factors were involved). 1-24 had someone get a DUI on KAF itself, but they were kind of detached from us so I didn't hear about much of the stupidity that went on there. I'm familiar with the story, when I heard about it it didn't surprise me. Hazing was always rampant and awful in 1-24. I left before the brigades deployment to Afghanistan but I was with them in Iraq. There was basically no accountability for any NCOs. Our S3 SGM was simply moved after being caught drinking in some female E4's barracks room. I assume a lot of this just comes from being treated like poo poo. Monday - Friday lower enlisted were just forced to sit in equipment cages for like weeks at a time while at work. There was a lot of Arctic Family fuckery too. Our 1ST Sgt used to put us in formation and make us wait there for however many minutes had passed that equaled what he figured we wasted of his time that day past the hour the general order required us to be let go. When someone reported him to IG he gave us a lecture about how that person was a "human being coward" etc etc and just made us wait longer. I've got a bunch of little video clips of us sitting in those cages from like 9:30 AM to 5 or-6 PM. I legitimately think it did psychological damage to some of the people. We'd get yelled at for not training our soldiers but we weren't allowed to leave the company area. So it was just lose-lose. And you cant just stand outside when its -30. The one thing to realize is that as a junior officer at the company level you possess a lot more power and capacity to affect change that you've been taught in ROTC/OCS/BOLC/whatever. The important caveat is that this rests upon you and your platoon sergeant's ability to run interference and have a good reason for doing what you're doing. It also depends upon you being comfortable telling the 1SG and other SNCOs from the battalion operations section to go gently caress themselves when they overstep their bounds. As a rule, almost all E8 and above think they're right about everything always, so you'll have to learn how to use this against them. Don't expect help from any officers above the company level, because for the most part they're only interested in furthering their careers. Have fun. psydude fucked around with this message at 03:21 on Sep 9, 2015 |
