Every WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!? down in Whoville liked English a lot
But the Skull Face who lived just North of Whoville did not!

The Skull Face hated English! The whole language treason!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.

It could be, perhaps, that his mask was too tight.
It could be his hat wasn't set on just right.

But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his Sahelanthropus was two sizes too small.

But, whatever the reason, his Mech or his shoes,
He stood there cursing English and hating the WHOOOOOOOOO?!'s,

Staring down from his chopper with a sour, grimy frown
At the warm lighted windows below in their town,

For he knew every WHOOOOOOOO?! down in Whoville beneath
Was busy now chatting away an english speech.

"Sahelanthropus is nearly complete," he snarled with a sneer.
"The death of all English! It's practically here!"

Then he growled, with his skeleton fingers nervously dreading,
"I must find some way to keep English from spreading!

But how?

Hey, I'm closing my eyes in this thread to ask this but I'm getting absolutely no reponse to multiple questions about this over the past several days. Does demon score affects anything beyond aesthetics and some horn-growing cutscenes? That's all I've heard about but I've still not used a DMG type weapon other than a launcher for vehicles as is my typical way with MGS games. However, the gunplay in this is fun enough that I want to start toying with stuff. I have such an ungodly amount of hours in the game being a good dude that I don't wanna miss out on some good guy ending (although given the events of NES Metal Gear I'd say that's...unlikely). Without major spoilers (or with, since I've brought it on myself coming here) do I have to give a poo poo about doing hoodrat stuff with my friends?

It leaves a bloodtrail that guards can theoretically follow, but in practice it doesn't seem to be a big deal. I'm not sure if the permanent blood covering gives the same health / reflex penalty that getting dirty the normal way does, but it's possible that you take a small hit to that too. Otherwise, purely aesthetic. No other impact on gameplay or story.

There was some (probably fan) site related to PT, SH, and MGS that had a countdown to 9/11 before MGSV and info about Ep 51 came out. The end of Ep 51 and a real picture of the New York skyline with the twin towers still there and Eli yelling "It's not over yet!"

I want to see some ridiculously crazy "Liquid did 9/11" super-secret DLC update as much as the next person, but even a casual glance at that conspiracy theory fan stuff pretty clearly shows it to be fake. It's all amateurish as hell and the videos are just relying on people being unfamiliar with the footage from the "behind the scenes" stuff so that it looks like they have access to something new and legitimate.

I know people love to come up with insane theories about how every single thing relating to this game, including Kojima's own firing and the recasting of Hayter, are actually some genius next-level marketing masterstroke, but come on guys. They aren't going to release 9/11-based DLC for a AAA video game fraught with development issues 10 days after it got released, and if by some miracle they did, it would probably just be some half-finished mess that Konami tries to sell for $25 or something.

Or maybe Kojima just *really* wanted to blow up the twin towers in MGS2 and now enough time has passed for him to live out his dream.

So I'm confused about something (shocking I know). What was actual Big Boss doing in the intervening nine years that Venom was in his coma? Was he also in a coma that he woke up from at the same time? Was he hanging around the hospital for nine years just waiting for the medic to wake up so that he could make sure no one finished him off? If he was up and active then how the gently caress did no one know that Big Boss was out in the world for those nine years and what was he doing?.

Big Boss was also in a coma. (Ishmael's "i've watched over you for nine years" thing is kinda bullshit.) There's a tape of Zero visiting the comatose Boss not long before he wakes up.

That tape is from pretty early on into the coma, no later than 1977 as that is when he gets turned into a vegetable by the parasites. Its also possible that when he thought he was talking to Big Boss he was talking to Ahab who had his face wrapped and everyone was already assuming/pretending was the boss.

Doesn't much jive with what we see in the game. He's in pretty solid physical condition rather than emaciated as poo poo like Venom (though Venom recovers drat fast I'll admit), and from the conversation he has with Ocelot it seems clear that they're putting a plan into motion that they've been working on for a while, something that doesn't make any sense when ocelot wasn't part of MSF when Big Boss went into a coma in the first place.

I finished this game last night. Absolutely loved the twist, though the emotional impact Kojima was trying to create really flat for me, because I am a woman. I know video games in general ignore female gamers, so really MGS isn't much worse than any other AAA title, but I wish they had taken the fact that a woman might be playing the game into a little more consideration. I don't know what the solution could be though, because it would probably bring up way more issues if the player character had to go through a forced sex change (the identity change is plenty hosed up already). However, I definitely got the message, which is the important thing I guess.

Though it's hilarious that the big bearded burly dog of war Big Boss now has to go by the name "Tiffany."

As long as the times refuse to change, we're going to make a hell of a racket.
I don't think we're done with MGSV yet.

From Reddit:

quote:

On the 11th September 2015, there will be a major announcement regarding Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Here's why.

TPP is set in 1984. The year that gives its name to Orwell's dystopian masterpiece. The main method of control by Big Brother - the British Government - of Orwell's novel, is Newspeak. A revised version of English used to instill the government's ideology into the populace. A primary theme within The Phantom Pain.

The party that controls the government in Orwell's novel is called "Ingsoc" (for English National Socialism). A website set up earlier this year (ingsoc.org) teases an undisclosed game called "Blackhound." The initial site had "A ##### ###### Game" as its infobar. The hashes match "Hideo Kojima" for character count, and the phrase is "his" go-to phrase.

The ingsoc.org site now has a timer set to run out on the 11th September (an odd date to announce an entertainment product on). If you watch the "deleted" (read: red herring) Mission 51 footage, you'll find at the very end a long shot of Manhattan, with the Statue of Liberty on the left, and the Twin Towers (yes, those towers) on the right. Eli says: "Not yet. It's not over yet." And then we get a "HIDEO KOJIMA" in the middle of the screen. An odd message for him to leave at the end of his final MGS game, if that were intended as the final scene.

quote:

Remember how Kojima said that between GZ and TPP, he'd do something "you can only do with videogames"? Well, technically, videogames are the only medium where it is possible to send out major post-release updates.

If you release an extra part to a book, that's just another book (or another "volume"). If you release an extra part to a film, that's just another film (or worse, a Director's Cut where some people will continue to insist on the original as the "definitive" version). But if you release additional content to a game? That's a ptch, and is instanlty absorbed into the singular, unified product. That's something unique to videogames. Releasing one version of a work, and then releasing another version, without the second version being considered "separate" to the first.

But the ride doesn't even end there.

MGSV is called, "The Phantom Pain", and Kojima has done the unthinkable, and created something like a phantom pain amongst his audience. The deep and gripping sensation that they can feel something, even though it isn't there. Taking advantage of that which only videogames as a medium can do - patching - made it possible for Kojima to simulate a phantom pain in his audience.

I don't necessarily want the plot to be changed, or to throw in some Big Boss related content or whatever, but we know there were things that were supposed to be in the game, aren't, and haven't been addressed yet, mainly the camp omega re-visit. It seems likely that it got cut for time, although the silence on it makes me think otherwise. Either way, 9/11 is in two days so either there will be something or there won't.

Ingsoc is totally fake, they've teased nothing that wasn't publically released so far, and some people are alleging they lifted some poo poo from javascript from this which would be pretty much a sign that it's some lovely fan project : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30299150/javascript-implementing-multiple-countdown-timers-in-a-table

I still think there's a chance they get some of the core Kojima staff back, or get the LA studio to wrassle up some DLC (by finishing whatever Kojima Studios poo poo they had to cut in chapter 2 for instance) once they see sales rolling in, but even that's not a guarantee. Still pretty loving weird that they filed a takedown on the one minute monologue but not the 150k+ views collectors edition video episode 51.

ImpAtom
May 24, 2007

The game already does the phantom pain thing anyway. It's basically the entire reason you lose Quiet thematically. She is gone but you (in theory) feel the absence of the character as she is no longer available as a playable character but traces of her remain. It also kinda makes more sense than cutting part of the game out only to return it, which is the opposite of phantom pain.

This is the reason Ocelot's torture boner is so subdued here (he even makes logical arguments about making interrogation quick as possible!), he just can't get it up if the torture doesn't advance Big Boss's agenda.
