No. Who she aims to be like when she's cooking, maybe. It's just trying to show that Erina's dad is an elitist dickhead and that Erina is terrified of him.

Then, when Souma is old enough in his eyes, he appeals to Souma's inherent competitiveness by challenging him to succeed at Tootsuki, then visits to see how he's progressed-- and when he wins their match, lightly teases him in way that doesn't feel antagonistic. It's clear that he and Souma are on very good terms with each other, which I feel is something that rarely happens with these sorts of characters.

I know but Subaru wasn't really presented as a rival during the match, it was only afterwards. In the lead-up the dude was just a villain who targeted cooks and stole their knives for no real reason. Unlike all the other top 8's Subaru was just a bad guy. That's changed of course, but he was definitely a villain in his first two matches. And Eizen did intentionally manipulate the press to insult Soma just out of spite really. I wouldn't say he's evil or anything but he's more of a bad dude than most. The difference between them as villains and Azami is that I doubt he's going to turn out to be an alright dude in the end. Also, that insurance lady or whatever in chapter 1 was totally just a bad guy and not good deep down. Some with the boss of that Karaage place.

As for bad dudes (and dudettes), the only ones I can think of is the insurance lady, the karaage snake lady, Eizan, Subaru (up until after his match with Soma), and Azami. Insurance lady and karaage snake lady are pretty much bad dudettes all around, though I wouldn't call them evil. Just smug jerkfaces. Eizan is definitely a bad dude, but is not necessarily evil. Very prideful though, to the point that a fast food shop he's consulting doesn't expand under his watch (even if it's owner is waaaay too smug to actually listen to him when she really needs to) is regarded by him as a stain on his career, to the point that he'll take it out on the opposing party (if he can't convince them to join him). Unlike the above two though, he doesn't mess around: His plan is devious, and most importantly, he doesn't need to outright cheat in order to execute it. (It still didn't go according to plan since Soma is Soma, but Eizan hides his tracks well enough.) Subaru... well, I don't think I need to justify that he was a bad dude before Soma beat him. Again, like Eizan, not necessarily evil, just a massive dick (before his defeat). Azami... seems to be built up to be the opposite of Jouichiro, so yeah; definitely a bad dude. It's also very likely that he'll actually be evil, given that Erina goes into PTSD when she sees him. I'm starting to think that Eri's attitude towards cooking is as much his fault as the enviroment she grew up in (but also that with Senzaemon taking over as a legal guardian, and Jouichiro having an influence on her, she avoided becoming a carbon copy of her real dad).

That would be interesting cause Soma's dad does a similar thing with 'mundane' ingredients, but whereas Erina's dad makes his food super exclusive, Soma's dad makes his accessible to anyone.

I'm hoping he doesn't stick around too much because even in this manga his motivation is truly absurd. "No one is allowed to eat my food except ??? (I don't even know how he figures out who's good enough)" makes basically no sense. Like, he just told the founder of the top no-expenses-spared Gastronomy club in Japan he wasn't good enough to eat Erina's food. Like, what in the actual gently caress?

Not sure how this is supposed to make anyone like Erina more. It's most of a, "Well okay, that's where she gets it from I guess." Since the dude's not her guardian anymore you'd think she'd eschew her dad's views in kind of a "gently caress you, dad!" way rather than take on a lighter form of them.

Her Dad got into her head before he left and his evil cooking ideals continue to influence her despite her fear of him. Like most things to do with Erina it will probably be boring and bad. And to be honest, Erina's whole "low-class people are bad cooks" hasn't been a thing since like the cooking camp. And was only ever really expressed at Soma who she hates for other completely silly reasons.

Spoiler time! The Azami/Soma confrontation goes nowhere, he just leaves and gives Erina poo poo for having low-class friends. Then Azami and Senzubean have a talk and Azami reveals that he got a majority vote of the Elite 10 (all of the third years plus Eizan) to fire Senzubean and install himself as the new Director of Totsuki. So she's got some significance as part of that. It helps keep Megumi more important by having her defeat an opponent that was sort of built up as a decently big deal. Same how Sadatsuka shows up a lot (especially in the ending) because she was Hisako's opponent, and by directly defeating her it builds Hisako up more.
