Americans: this is Jeremy Corbyn. He's basically the British version of Bernie Sanders right now. Here he is getting a bus and looking miserable like every other British person getting a bus. Man of the people!

But all the Americans making fun of 9/11 with memes and whatnot in some weird attempt to be edgy always comes off as so desperate.

The spaghetti one made me laugh.

And mocking terrorist attacks is how you stop the terrorists from winning. Or is at least more productive and less edgy and desperate than starting random foreign wars over them.

That desperation isn't destructive though

This desperation seems to be, though.

I seem to remember Dick Chaney making a similar argument about Iraq.

The important lessons of history are often radical. As a result, history never records them. Old lies are reborn with every new election cycle and every new war.

Writers have been exposing lies like these for thousands of years, but new generations, disadvantage by their youth, must learn the lessons of human failure anew. This is more than ironic. It seems to be a rule that history repeats, only changing terminology to suit the zeitgeist.

Our attention span is so short, we cannot even remember lies we've seen in our lifetime. This is what Gore Vidal called The United States of Amnesia. We are like the protagonist in the film Memento; unable to form new memories, we are continually betrayed by the same cast of fraudsters, over and over again, tricked into acting out untold violence against innocent people for the benefit of some poo poo-heads in Washington or on Wall Street.

Why were they doing forensic work like that? Seems pretty time consuming, and it's not like they were lacking other evidence or eye witness accounts.

Have to be sure that Holmes acted alone. Forensics like that confirm there was only 1 shooter.

That's not what it is at all, http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/users/2015/07/teenagers_and_9_11_trutherism_jokes_how_these_memes_became_a_phenomenon.2.html

There were jokes from day 1, there always are after every tragedy but 9/11 has been particularly bad at taking up cultural space. When bombarded with recurring annual calls to action about a thing that happened 14 years ago that no one but conspiracy theorists really care about anymore, people make it into a joke, they push it out of the way so that things that matter now have room in the public consciousness. 9/11 is everywhere, in places you wouldn't expect it, and annual 9/11 jokes are not about being edgy at all, they are about making it so we don't have to all constantly mourn something that most of us don't have an emotional gut reaction to anymore. This article puts it perfectly, it's about making it a punchline until it's played out, then it's history and every single American, even ones who weren't alive at the time, no longer need to be emotionally invested in it and we can treat it as a piece of history we can think on before acting.

9-11 deserves to be made fun of, it's been put upon an altar and used to justify all heinous acts way worse than some buildings falling down and killing three thousand people.

Hi there.
There were protests all over Europe concerned with the refugee crisis today.

In London and Copenhagen there were tens of thousands marching in favour of refugees.

In Hamburg there were a few thousand as part of a counterprotest against a group of three dozen neo-nazis.

In Bratislava it was a bit different, with more than 1,000 people protesting against Islam and immigration and about 400 counter protesters. In Warsaw about 5000 were rallying against immigrants.

Meanwhile, Munich prepared for a new record influx of refugees this weekend with 10,000 arriving only on Saturday.

I wouldn't give a poo poo if it were just the morons of gamergate and anti-gamergate people or whatever they call themselves, but stuff like his australi witness twitter account and impersonating others was beyond hosed up and the former likely succeeded at inciting violence at least once.
