I think that Integrated Astromech is going to really help it go the distance because no post-dial movement is something you can learn to work around with sufficient practice (I'm still proud of how I flew those K-fighters on that last game) but five hitpoints is unfortunately a little fragile, and having that extra panic button on hand is something that could have come in handy several times now.

Oh yeah, Integrated Astromech is great in that list, giving you an extra final Hull point, or letting you dodge a nasty crit (most likely, Direct Hit) to keep them in the air for longer. It's a huge deal.

From a gameplay standpoint, are the T-65 and T-70 Xwings the same thing? Like, same hull/shields/attack/defense, same movement dial, etc?

Nope, drastically different. T-70 has much better maneuvers and an extra shield. It's a nice "super legacy fighter" variant the same way US fighters and concepts does it.

So the "Dutch Courage" list looks fun.

Only bad thing is that I'm missing is Wes Janson. I can't really justify getting a Rebel transport since my local play group only plays at 100 points. Also, a quick search seems that finding a single of just Wes' pilot card is drat hard.

Our local group is perfectly fine with people bringing a printed X-Wing Builder list as long as it was printed on the 'Full' setting, so it shows the rules, so it's not an issue here.

Hell, nobody would really bat an eye for a tournament either, it's not like FFG are going to turn up to complain.

I haven't messed around with the squad builder in the first post too much because I tend to make lists that use cards I don't even have. I need to just print out a bunch of cards (instead of paying :10bux: on eBay) so I can stop worrying about that.

Any recommendations on getting better at the planning/movement phase? My friend and I are slowly learning but it seems like we still spend a lot of time stuck together in a blob, or I get chased by all of his ships.

On a side note, he really hates Luke with R2-D2. I gave him the stealth device and advanced proton torpedoes along with Marksmanship; the torpedoes were near useless because I didn't notice they were range 1. I'm thinking next time I take him, just go full defensive with a shield upgrade and some other kind of defensive thing. What would be a good build for an "unkillable" Luke and what to go with him?

One thing I did when I got started is take a big base ship and a small base ship and repeatedly do maneuvers with them, try to dodge around asteroids and see what the end positions are for barrel rolls/boosts or both. It's kind of boring but it really helped me visualise maneuvers. Do it while something's on the TV.

Strobe ran the numbers on luke with lone wolf (for defensive rerolls) + stealth device and combined with his defensive pilot ability, his evade odds were very high.

Gonna drop the decoy+bodyguard mechanic for a minute and see what happens. Gave lonewolf to Guri because in 100% of the games I've played, she's been the last ship standing. Gave intimidation and the seismic charge to boba to discourage bumping him to deny actions, which happens a lot as well. I figure if you're afraid to bump him, afraid to fly behind him, and afraid to engage him at range 1, it all works out for me.

The thing that bugs me is you get a new (and allegedly better) damage deck, but if I want two of them I need two new core sets. I wish they'd toss a new damage deck up as an option to buy on its own.

The new TIE definitely gets more than 3 points worth of stuff over the original, which already gave you a lot for the points. Not sure how the T-70 stacks up to other Rebel options though.

I wonder if the original core set is gonna still be available for purchase? Are they gonna re-make it so that it has the new deck? Or maybe they are going to release everything in it as a standalone expansion. It would seem weird that there would be two cores, it would just needlessly confuse new players.

T-70 stacks up pretty well. It gets an extra shield, boost, and more/better maneuvers for like 2-3 points over their equivalent T-65.

e: they also get access to EPTs starting with the red squadron veteran. :getin:

I don't really see that much use of the new TIE. Sure, you get a lot more stuff on it, but if you just want a swarmer the original TIE fighter is a better option because those 3 extra points add up when considering a swarm. It's gonna have a similar issue that the Scyk has in comparison to the Zs (although the F0 is better than a Scyk).

The T70 is legit amazing, has a load of fixes that basically fix the problems with the T65, is priced pretty well in terms of points and has access to the talon roll, which is an amazing dial option. T70 is really good in comparison to the T65 and I think it will compete favourably against the B-Wing as well.

The new damage deck is better in the sense that it's better for the game, but I'm not sure using it confers an advantage to the user. If you have a build that would have been devastated by a Munitions Failure or an Injured Pilot flipping a crit is less terrifying, but in exchange there aren't really any crits that you can just ignore the text of because they don't affect your build.

Epic 2v2 games are pretty bonkers. A friend and I just recently splashed out on the enormous phallic instruments and finally got a chance to play one yesterday afternoon.

The game ran to time (namely, late dinner time) last night, a full 400pt match, Raider vs Tantive, that was a ton of fun - technically 2v1, since the Rebel player was doing his solo. He managed to whittle down my wing commander's forces so that it finally went down to just Mama Bird and Baby Bird on my side and we called it for the night, with both our capital ships in flames (5fore/3aft hull on my Raider, most of the upgrades crippled by deck breaches, misfiring thrusters announcing my moves to the table; 3fore/2aft on his Tantive, all the lights out and explosions everywhere) and all fighter forces heavily damaged.

Here's pretty much how it began, with the Raider making a charge straight down the middle because that's just more fun dammit, and everyone moving into position. I manage to get a couple of Ion Cannon Battery shots in on the K-wing at this point, neutering it so that it's taken out before it can do much, but then the dice start to dislike me for the rest of the game.
Imperials, from left to right: Captain Jonus, Redline, Deathrain, Imperial Raider (Assailer / Mama Bird), Darth Vader, Major Rhymer, Captain Oicunn (Baby Bird).
Rebels: Tantive IV (Dodonna's Pride), Lando, Keyan, Gold Sq. Pilot, Warden Sq. Pilot, Dutch, Wedge, Jake.

That's a shot from right near the end - with the Decimator having just made an incredibly jammy pull past the Tantive, banking entirely on him turning it away rather than continuing forwards - and just before he manages to take out Deathrain and Rhymer. Lando's in the back, and pretty much everyone has fired all of their munitions at this point.

Great fun, although I'm looking forward to a few more 100pt games before we try it again. I have a neat Colonel Jendon/Redline/Maarek Stele trio I want to try out as a change from my normal Echo/Int/Int (or more recently Echo/Vader/Juno). Next time we play epic I think I'll take the Weapons Engineer on the Raider so that I actually have a backup plan when my rolls start to suck.

Does Stealth Device get discarded the first time you take damage to shields, or the first time you take an actual damage card? What defines a "hit" for purposes of that card?

Stealth device only gets discarded when someone fires at you during the combat stage and there are any hit dice that are not neutralised by evade dice (critically, Lt Blount, the Z95 pilot that allows you to 'hit' even if all of your hits have been neutralised, allows you to disable Stealth Device). Nothing else counts as a hit, and to that effect, things like Feedback Arrays don't actually disable Stealth Devices.

If an attacker rolled more successes on their red dice after modification than you rolled on your green dice after modification, you lose the stealth device.

Straight from the FAQ as well to confirm the ruling:

quote:

A ship equipped with Stealth Device only discards
Stealth Device if it defends against an attack and is hit.
Damage suffered from other game effects (such as
Seismic Charge, asteroids, Feedback Array, or damage
received for being at Range 1 of a ship hit by Assault
Missiles) does not cause a ship to discard Stealth
Device

Awesome, I'll look into picking it up!

Also is there a goon-recommended carrying case for the game? I saw a red Plano one listed on Amazon for like $20 that has a ton of reviews specifically saying X-wing players use it (which I thought was pretty funny).
I learned the hard way yesterday that just tossing all the minis in the core set box was a bad idea when one of the wing tip laser cannons on my B-wing mini almost snapped off. I was able to salvage it without much trouble, but it was a huge wake-up call and makes me want a dedicated case so I don't break all my stuff like a clumsy rear end in a top hat.

Went to a tournament at my FLGS yesterday - It was my first ever tournament.

I was running:

Trandoshan Slaver w/ Bossk, Gunner, Tactician
Syndicate Thug w/ Twin Laser Turret, R4 Agromech
Syndicate Thug w/ Twin Laser Turret
Binayre Pirate

Game 1: Whisper w/ Fire Control System, VI, Gunner, Advanced Cloak, 2x Sigmas with Fire Control System
I've played this guy playing this list twice before, both times he wiped the floor with me. He also flies Phantoms a whole lot, and his maneuvering with them is very impressive. I was pretty nervous. However, we both soon found out that cloak tokens ain't poo poo against Twin Laser Turrets. I focus fired Whisper with the TLTs, which stripped her of focus tokens, and then the YV-666 finished it off. Sigmas went down even harder.

Result: 100-24, one Thug gave his life for the cause.

Game 2: Han Solo w/ Predator, R2-D2, C-3PO, Engine Upgrade. Miranda Doni w/ Recon Specialist, Twin Laser Turret.
This guy is my most frequent opponent. I made the mistake of chasing the Falcon around the map instead of focus firing Miranda. The Falcon ended up burning down from two console fires (thanks R2), but at that point it was Miranda vs my Binayre pirate, which was hopeless.

Result: 61-100.

Game 3: Kath Scarlet w/ K4 Security Droid, Engine Upgrade, Push the Limit, 2x Syndicate Thug w/ Twin Laser Turret.
Started out wonderfully, Kath was at range two to 666 in the first round of shooting, and I missed the first attack - So she had 3 stress tokens at the start of the next round. However, Kath and her two thugs took the 666 down to one HP in two rounds of shooting, so I was forced to flee with it to deny him the MOV.
First one of his Thugs goes down quickly to my Thugs and Pirate. Kath proceeds to be a goddamn nuisance, and spends three or four turns at two hitpoints. She finally goes down, but in that same turn his last Thug takes down my last Thug.
I swing the YV-666 (still alive, had been flying around avoiding the fight) down for a hail mary - He needs to do three damage to the Thug in order to not die. He does two damage, and the Thug kills it.
What follows are the tensest fifteen minutes of Wangs I've ever played, with the Binayre trying to stay at range 1 to avoid the TLT, while simultaneously arcdodging the Y-Wing.
The Y-Wing takes the Pirate down to 1 hitpoint. The Y-Wing also has only one hitpoint, but it's at range 3, and behind an asteroid. The Pirate has one chance to take the Y-Wing out, or it'll die to it's TLT in the next turn. Pirate rolls two hits, Y-Wing rolls only one evade. The end, but it was as close as you can possibly get .

Result: 100-88.

Game 4: Two Defenders w/ Mangler, Captain Jonus with a whole bunch of b-list ordnance
This was the TO, playing an intentionally silly list. He managed to get to a 2-1 table with such a silly list on account of being a fantastic player.
Game was short. One of my Thugs goes down to focus fire and a shitload of crits, and the last Defender manages to take down my Pirate with his last round of shooting.

Result: 100-32.

Ended up going 3-1, and barely missing top 4 and getting nerd bling plastic focus tokens due to a less than stellar MOV. Not bad considering that there were 17 people there, and it was my first tournament.

Conclusions: YV-666s own (hail Satan), Twin Laser Turrets are quite possibly broken.
