We've finally got a date for the Shovel Knight dlc: Sept. 17th. I'm pumped, playing through Shovel Knight made me feel like I was 10 years old again playing through Mario Land 2 or something. Just this pure, excellent experience.

There are a lot of free Shovel Knight updates coming to all versions that were originally Kickstarter stretch goals - new playable characters, challenge mode, genderswap mode, local multiplayer battle mode. The Amiibo unlocks extra exclusive content: local co-op, gear levelling/upgrades, amiibo-exclusive challenges.

Yeah I should specify: This is the Plague Knight DLC. The first of the DLC content that was proposed as a stretch goal for the Kickstarter campaign. The amiibo stuff was unrelated to the KS campaign and was added separately.

It's a roguelike (as much as the Mystery Dungeon games are roguelike) where you have a party of Etrian Odyssey classes instead of a single adventurer. Though nothing is stopping you from doing a party of one character if that's your thing. Each class has a skill tree like in the Etrian games so there's a lot more going on than just attacking and using items, and there's even a new class that looks like Shiren the Wanderer if you want to cosplay.

How do unlocks generally go with pre-loaded stuff? Seeing as it's Nintendo, I can't really expect Midnight EST to unlock Mario Maker, but I can dream, right?  It only says it unlocks on the 11th of September(tm).vv:

Nintendo usually updates the eShop around 9AM PST but big releases like Mario Maker should unlock at midnight EST.

Mario vs. DK 2 is full-on stylus-controlled Minis stuff and I suppose it's not bad but I've never much cared for any of them. The Year Walk devs put a lot of work into adapting their games for the gamepad and the two-screen format and they've claimed it's the definitive version of the game.
