If you need / want to get your feet wet after the military just go do some time in a local community college, assuming your state actually gives them money and they're not all hosed up. Can be a good way to transfer back, the population is all sorts of ages and levels of weirdness, still has yoga butts and if you were a gently caress up like me in high school you can get your GPA nice and padded in order to get into a real school. Also it's cheap and you can probably afford to pay out of pocket if you saved any of your deployment money at all.

Cacati in mano e pigliati a schiaffi!

Don't forget your JST either. I got like 40 credits towards my associates in arts because of that.

Also there is sometimes something your college can offer but often has a different name. They have a class called Prior Learning Assessment or Life Experiences or some poo poo that you take, are super loving easy, and help you write a resume based on poo poo you did in the Army. Squad Leader? Leadership. S6? Introduction to computers and a slew more I'm sure.

It costs less to get a credit that way and counts as credit (so it won't hurt your GPA if you have ok marks) in your transcripts, not a letter grade.

They evaluate your poo poo and give you credit based on what your portfolio says and then they say "give us x amount and we will put this on your transcript as done." X amount usually is manageable. I think my school offers the first 12 credits for 600 bucks and then in incriminates of 6 credits for 400 or something later.

Either or, I did and am doing the above. I'm not done with my PLA class yet, but I'm sitting pretty after doing 4 online classes towards my AA, and I'm more than likely going to skip it and go right for my BA.

Everything about this is true. Take at least 12 hours, and the GI Bill will also pay for whatever health insurance scam the school is offering.

I want to touch on this.

My school offers health insurance. You can only turn it down if you have your own health insurance. The GI Bill pays for the health insurance. I also have a disability rating of 30%+, so I have tricare. My school accepts tricare, which means I basically have two health insurance plans.

The school's health insurance for the fall semester is around $1400. After the GI Bill paid my tuition -- which included the health insurance premium -- I signed a waiver declining the school's insurance plan and received a $1400 refund in my student account, which meant $1400 in my pocket.

The GI Bill has hidden money everywhere. I'll crosspost this to the education thread.

If you have a minimum 30% rating you should be eligible.

It's mostly just about finding doctors that actually accept Tricare.

I found out my school accepts Tricare when I had to get some mandatory vaccines. Hep B and stuff like that. I thought I was going to have to pay full price for it. The school let me skate on paying anything until we figured out if Tricare covered it.

Several weeks and a lot of VA bullshit later I got a bill for under $8. I never paid it because I got it just as Summer started and planned on handling it when I got back for the Fall. When I asked about it they said I didn't owe anything.

Tricare covers me 100% at my school for booster shots at least. I'm going to see if I can ditch the VA psych doc and see if Tricare covers psych care at the school.

To be completely honest our 1SG seems happy with his family and is generally a nice guy, but he's 100% old school as gently caress, so half the time he comes up with a plan, he wants it done that way because he said so; any push back from below makes him double down on his retarded good idea fairies.

Example: during the AT from hell I posted about, I fought hard and took issues up the chain about a unit coming in and not kicking in their own people for the random details they had us doing, including running the kitchen. I said during a meeting that it was bullshit and that I wanted to know why the gently caress our predeploymemt training was less important than theirs, considering we were doing real life IT certs and running a kitchen for these guys.

1SG found me later, locked me up, insinuated I was refusing to work in the kitchen, and said the answer was none of my goddamned business, and proceeded to further gently caress with our schedules until the CO talked him down after I had my talk with him. Only reason I haven't found a way out of this mission is because my CO is good people, and the other NCOS have my back when poo poo gets stupid.

Alright here is my story.

I was rated by the VA to be 70% disabled. I was discharged for substance abuse. It has been ~3 years since I was discharged. I am not going to lie, but I did rely on chemicals not approved by the army or the gov to help my problems. My unit started the chaptering and out processing ~2 weeks before my medboard went through.

I lost my DA-214 and even now every request I put through ends up with nada, but I have not selected retired for the paperwork because my chain of command and some douchebag that gave me my original dd-214 said I am not even entitiled to my disability.
