Wow, I had no idea mostly due to no one I know using them but I always thought they could be used. Is there anything off about their range rulers or movement templates that I should know about?

Hm, not that I'm aware of. The main difference with the bases is that instead of the 'nubs' that stick out of the rectangular base for movement templates slot into, the attack wing bases have more of an opening that fits the template; a small section subtracted from the plastic, essentially. Makes them a little too big, and while I wouldn't worry at all for casual play myself, I wouldn't blame someone for not wanting to play against something non-standard.

This build managed to take out my Poe before he did anything useful because I was dumb and flew him over an asteroid. Poe loses a lot of his defensiveness when he has to skip his action phase. Then Wedge made short work of Redline with the 3 remaining cluster missiles unfired.

I'd like to know how that list works out. I'll be playing tomorrow night at a friend's and might borrow his Punisher to try it out.

Complicated question regarding consecutive ramming with the new Dauntless rules. How it used to work when performing a green maneuver was you'd Reveal Dial and hit a ship -> Dauntless triggers -> Perform free action and receive a stress token -> immediately remove stress token during Check Pilot Stress step since you had just performed a green maneuver. Next turn you could perform another green maneuver, hit another ship, Dauntless, wash, rinse, repeat. Now the FAQ says, "If a ship equipped with the Dauntless title executes a red maneuver and overlaps another ship, it cannot perform a free action. If it executes a green maneuver, overlaps another ship, and uses Dauntless to perform a free action, the stress it receives is not removed by the green maneuver."

What I'm wondering is have they changed the order of operation? Is it now Reveal Dial and hit ship -> Check Pilot Stress -> Dauntless triggers -> Perform free action and recieve a stress token, which still allows you to ram someone next turn with a green maneuvering and activate Dauntless again? Or is it something else entirely that I'm too dim to suss out?

I know it's a good card, but I can never get over that the first time I played Rebel Captive, the Rebel player happened to be bringing Ibtisam as his highest-skill pilot. I was not a happy bunny, since I couldn't even choose not to give him the stress.

Judging by the rules update article itself, it looks like they're manually updating that to match how the new rules play out (putting Check Pilot Stress within the Perform Action step) so that the Dauntless effect no longer works, but also fixing Night Beast's ability and the like.

Small 10~ player tournament tomorrow morning. I looked over my feeble collection and despaired, until I did some searching. I'll have to borrow a card from my buddy who bought the Falcon but otherwise I have everything:

100 points

Dash Rendar [Push the Limit, Heavy Laser Cannon, Kyle Katarn, Outrider, Engine Upgrade] (58)

Airen Cracken [Wingman] (21)

Rookie Pilot (21)

Ebay wants $8 for that stupid Engine Upgrade card. The basic plan is to have Dash making GBS threads all over the field with his crazy movement, and when it comes time to attack, Airen will go first and hopefully be within range to remove Dash's stress token, which trigger's Kyle to give Dash a free Focus token. If Dash isn't in a proper position to avoid fire, he can use the free action from Airen to help get out of the way. Can Dash still PTL with that free action? If so, he can do a green next turn to remove that, getting another free focus token, and do another PTL for his move.

The big problem I see is Airen trying to keep up with all that, unfortunately.

Your main problem yeah is gonna be Dash trying to stay with Airen while not being in other cards- Dash's best aspect is being able to move anywhere and while Dash himself can be unpredictable, Airen cannot. If Dash starts taking concentrated fire he'll go down in a hurry and I don't see a Z and an X finishing up after Dash is dead. Good luck, though. If you fly well you can win games with Dash.

You can try looking up videos of the regionals and things like that. The commentary is real hit or miss though. However, you can search for something like "X-Wing regional <some ship you like> video" and probably find one that has a good player using that ship, which is helpful.

It looks like MWG actually has 2 wang batreps but they're titled ep 1 & 3 so who knows where or what the 2nd video is about.

Anyway I just watched the second (episode 3) and it ended with a prototype piloted a-wing w/out chardaan refit acting like arvel crynyd by shooting and destroying a ship that was in base to base contact.

Yeah I remember the people at my home store talking about Bob mentioning me in some episode of nova squadron and they all acted surprised that I don't listen to it at all. I tried and I just don't get why would you even listen to a podcast instead of music or an audiobook while driving or hitting the gym.

I think playing Go and understanding what "area control" really means helps a lot in this game. Or just jam games in, see what feels open or "heavy." Kikashi and sabaki are concepts that I think are p closely related to this game. Kikashi I think is decently translated to "force" which is p thematic for this game. :3:

I played one match last night, against (IIRC) Chiraneau w/ Expose, Rebel Captive, Darth Vader; Rexler Brath w/ Predator, Stealth Device (he was at 100pts, if that's less than 100 I'm forgetting something).

Early game Redline got a 5-6 damage cluster missile shot into Chiranaeu while taking focus fire from both Chiraneau and Brath, while Kenkirk was able to put two damage on Brath through Ruthlessness. I don't think my opponent took that card into account at all while maneuvering. Redline only got the one shot off before biting it via a Vader choke which left Chiraneau at 1 health. Kenkirk finished him off, then managed a range 1 four damage shot on Brath which my opponent rolled no evades four with his stealth device, and that was game.

I think I'd modify the list by dropping the Gunner and Ruthlessness for Predator and a Recon Specialist. Predator is kinda like a budget Gunner, and the Recon Specialist makes the Decimator slightly more tanky once its lost its shields and Yssard and Kenkirk's abilities come into play. I'd need to play the list a few more times to see if its worth dropping one of the two sets of Cluster Missiles on Redline for say, Engine Upgrade on Kenkirk. I'd need a larger sample size of how many shots Redline gets off in a game before making that decision, though.

And for the record I lost like a chump in Armada afterwards.

Just a note to the Kai/Strobe match- the only time a ship's base has to be touching the edge of the play area is when it's a large ship and another part of the base extends outside of the deployment zone- basically if you're putting a corner on the edge of the map and the opposite corner is extending past the deployment area.

Dash did really well in my three games. Unfortunately, with a lack of support, I lost three games. As expected, Airen wasn't able to keep up with Dash and despite how good he was, there is only so much a single large ship can do.

First game was against a low PS Outrider with Moldy Crow and another cheap HWK. Once I blew past the HWKs their slow turns kept them out of the action for a while but once everyone caught up, Dash was toast. Got half points for the opposite Outrider though.

Game two was... Y-wing (Kavin something maybe?) With three PS1 Z-95s and another Z-95 with concussion missiles. Blew away all five shields in the second turn.

Game 3 was two TIE Bombers, Dark Curse and Darth Vader. Managed to take out Dark Curse but by then the bombers were blowing their wads on me and I was toast.

Learned a lot about moving and that my ships need to be designed to support each other better. At no point did I feel frustrated due to the rules or any particular model/upgrade, I was simply outplayed. Which means I can get better someday.

X-wing is cool.

The T-70 was designed based on the same McQuarrie concept art that was used by the EU as a basis for the Z-95, which is why the wings look like a single wing when the S-foils are locked. :eng101:
