Oh, let's break it down!

I am pretty dumb when it comes to end game stuff in this game as I have not really done anything outside of CT or whatever. When they say NM/HNM monsters on those islands..is this something that already exists with hunts, and do we think it's just similar to hunts, or do you think it's more along the lines of FFXI NM/HNMs? If it's the latter I really need to get myself leveled and geared up because I miss that poo poo (no idea why).

If so, yesssssssssss. :woop: My catgirl (who is dark complexioned and has the sassy-black-lady voice, I think it's number 8) will know her true destiny

e. A month and two weeks isn't that massive a wait. It's probably enough to get some people antsy, but given how substantial these patches end up being, the complaints will probably vanish into nothingness the second it rolls out.

Also, if, as someone up-thread mentioned, it's because the devs took a big vacation after HW launched, GOOD. We've heard enough horror stories about both game development crunch time and Japanese office culture, and the people who've been making this game have been doing a pretty good job and don't deserve to be burnt out.

So when they said you can run into other parties on the floating continent stuff, did they specify that you can go hostile on them, or would it be just like running into a group in the overworld?

Bit more translated information on the islands for Explorations:

  • The weakest monsters on the island will be roughly A-rank hunt monsters in difficulty.
  • Monsters are strong enough to spiritbond i180 gear.
  • Items will drop in three different types of chest: Bronze, Silver, and Gold (presumably based on difficulty). Gold chests drop ilvl210 items.
  • Both the stats and the glamour are randomized, with the glamours generally being older styles of armor (High Allagan, etc.) with differing colors.
  • Unwanted armor can be traded in for points, which can then be exchanged for gear/items.
  • The islands are not fully instanced, so you can run into other alliances on them (hoo boy, this could cause some drama).

This was super frustrating right when HW came out. I had hit 60 crafter almost immediately and was complaining about good procs seeming like they were horribly nerfed and people thought I was a loony. :(

Yeah, it was really stupid because some of the DoH players have been doing literally thousands of items and seen tens of thousands of procs, enough to know when something is off. I sampled some of my own crafting and got these values:

Level - Samples - Procs
<59 - 741 - 20.0%
59 - 2382 - 15.2%
60 - 544 - 12.0%
60 (1* only) - 381 - 12.0%
60 (2* only) - 163 - 12.1%

The only time I get annoyed with RNG is when I'm at 98% on a craft and I don't HQ it. But that's happened only a couple of times versus the many many times I get HQ. Still, those few times have made me sure to not be lazy about crafting and get that poo poo to 100%.

I was talking to some other programmers who do crafting the other day and the general consensus is that we honestly wouldn't be surprised if someone found out the RNG in FFXIV looked something like this, from the warframe thread:

The problem is that there are ways to achieve patterns even if you're using a good algorithm. Like if you're constantly resetting it with a new seed, you'll get patterns because some RNGs form patterns when you're taking, say, the first value from different seeds.

Oh man I want to be excited but this seems like it could cause so many problems. Everyone's going to be fighting over gold chests for one, and while I like randomized glamours I do not like randomized stats. Like pieces of armor could have any stats? Or will there be set patterns? If it's literally random, like +6 Piety and +126 Skill Speed on the same piece, that will be a fun grind for the hardcore but infuriating for most. I hated it in Monster Hunter, at least. But I'll of course hold off judgment til we know more.

Not to start another 'Paladin's are fine' derail but how common, historically speaking, are mechanical class changes in mid-content patches, looking back to the 2.x cycles? I'm a sucker for the sword and board classes but spamming Flash through all the EXDR pulls feels baaaad. Just want to know if there's precedence in something like giving Shield Swipe a cleave effect or anything along those lines. My endgame consists of big trash pulls, so if Flash existing bars PLD from getting a cool cleave ever I might just keep pushing my DRK to level cap.

Even if its a bad RNG its server side so you wouldn't really see the correct pattern from the client anyways. Unless you figured out how to kick everyone else off the server.

Warrior was dramatically buffed in 2.1. Storm's Path got the -damage debuff. Holmgang got the "You can't go below 1 hp" added, previously, it was just a pull and root. Vengeance got the damage reduction, previously all it did was hurt people. Inner Beast got the damage reduction added, previously it was just a heal. The +healing effect of Defiance used to be tied to and scale with your Wrath stacks, it was changed to always be the maximum amount and to come from Defiance, so using Inner Beast or Steel Cyclone didn't gut your defense. And Defiance didn't give +enmity before. And Storm's Path cost 90 TP, and Steel Cyclone didn't do extra enmity, and Thrill of Battle lasted half as long ... Warrior had massive problems in 2.0, and got significantly retuned. It's hardly out of the question for Paladin to get similar things.
