Damnit guys, stop talking about MSGV, I haven't played it yet, but I will eventually! I almost moused over some of those spoiler bars. Speaking of Metal Gear, after its success with Frostgrave, I'm looking forward to another Osprey game coming out that seems like its kinda Metal Gear styled. Black Ops. I love that Osprey is getting into tabletop (war)games.

Solidarity there, friend. There is absolutely no game that compares to Undertale though, it rules in a big way.

The plot was nearly non-existant, there was little-to-no action - basically the characters floundered in self doubt, mired in hate, for the entire book. I LOVE the Forgotten Realms books but this one...was burn worthy at best. Horrid. Read it at your own peril. quote:The writing feels fractured, bordering on incoherence. MGS5 is GOTY because I can sneak into a Soviet camp and steal every man, mounted gun, vehicle, and cargo container without anyone noticing. There's nothing quite like sneaking up behind a big drat tank and lifting it into the sky, thereby stealing every man inside. Big Boss - Man Stealer

The concept of GOTY is frankly kind of stupid. Different games are good for different audiences, and gaming covers so many different audiences nowadays that it makes no sense to declare one game superior to everything else.

(edit: level ~12+ you might want to double this if your PCs actually spec for damage.) Size: however big/small you want. init: make it up. saves: whatever the wizard's spellcasting mod is +10, -1 if they took spell focus and +/-3 depending on if it is/not beefy/fast/smart. AC: highest PC attack bonus +8. touch AC should be about 5 less. attack: whatever your tank's AC is -11. +/-3 depending on how scary the fight should be. attacks: however many your full bab guy has, +/-1. speed: fast enough. special attacks/qualities: get creative, save DCs are whatever the highest PC save is in that category +9. skills: who cares. feats: if there's a feat you think is cool, it has that. Otherwise, who cares. environment: right here, right now. treasure: that thing one PC really wants, plus some gems and whatever for the others. There, you now have infinite 3.5 D&D monsters. Your only limit is your imagination and ability to describe things. Yawgmoth fucked around with this message at 23:48 on Sep 21, 2015 |

The xenophobes had the advantage of having Seigfried, an extremely friendly NPC only in it to hunt monsters as its face, whereas the freedom fighters had Yaevinn, who tries to rob a bank and all your dwarf friends advise keeping away from him. Then again, the former group was just a front for the actual villains of the story, while the latter are just one part of a bigger movement. The Scoie'tal get a better shake in the second game by having an elf leader who's willing to be friends with humans that aren't total shitters, and is on much better terms with your dwarf buddies. Basically it's a group of baddies that has a nice guy who is treated as a useful idiot front and center, while the other side is less villainous in its aims but is led by a tool. I haven't played Witcher 1 (played Witcher 2 almost to completion) but I am midly curious why some people don't like shades of grey stories. I've run into a similar situation where some players detest Dark Sun because "it's too morally ambiguous" when really it's about the choices you make in a survival situation. Yet these same people have no problem with zombie games that should technically be the same thing: a survival story. Shades of grey stories (if not written by a moron like Dragon Age 2) are more grounded in realism and that makes a story more compelling. The Last of Us is a great example of a morally ambiguous story done well. Helical Nightmares fucked around with this message at 04:51 on Sep 22, 2015 |
