Tae posted:Lack of cutscenes and story was not one of FF13's problems. No, I'm seriously asking, was it 13 or 13-2 that wanted you to read up like an 'Of Mice and Men' long novel to keep yourself up to date on what's happening?

Heroic Yoshimitsu posted:Not to get into spoilers or anything, but I don't see how someone could ever get stuck on the final mission for hours. Assuming you mean final story mission, but the actual last mission also wouldn't make sense. To be fair, what I'm gonna explain is what I think the final mission was. I haven't touched the game in like a week, and I'm awful at remembering. I thought the last mission was to just take out a single outpost, not like 10 waves of tanks and helicopters to save Quiet. I had literally only one weapon developed for taking out tanks, because I usually warp-hole'd them by sneaking up all quiet and taking out the escorts. What happened was that after like an hour and a half of zero progress since they give you the actual worst rocket launcher in the game, I reset the mission, then developed body armor and fucktons of explosives. The game doesn't let you exit back out to the ACC once you accept it, I learned. I let the game sit in the beginning of the mission for about an hour and a half while poo poo developed, then it still took me for-loving ever because even with the second-best body armor, a grenade pistol, and a vastly superior launcher I got one-shot by tanks from a mile off. Also, directional mines straight-up don't work on tanks apparently at the second upgrade level. I set down 4 pairs of 8 mines, side by side, in a row on the main paths and would see every tank just drive on past them without exploding them. Kinda sucked that the mine's description said "anti-personell and -vehicle" and didn't work on vehicles. In short, I had completely the wrong playstyle the game needed me to have at that point in the game, and had none of the appropriate equipment. I can't really blame the game, since my shortcomings in that area were very blatant, I just chose to ignore it because I never assumed I'd have to do different.

I've watched five episodes of Gangsta and enjoyed what I saw of it. There's nothing gross or of questionable content that you wouldn't find in any other story about Italian gangsters except with some child soldiers mixed it. Gate on the other hand...

Naw, I saw the ending. But, I don't consider the "last mission" the last mission, since it's pretty much just story. ninja edit: Emphasis on "mission" more than "last" is what I meant.

Lots of arguments, tense moments, scheduling conflicts and stuff you wouldn't be privy to and would never affect you. I'm talking off-camera things. So I don't think you'd really understand. It's a shame you're interrupted so much in the podcast because you're the chillest of the team, because of that it seems like you can only talk about movies everyone else isn't really interested on.

The other thing with the podcast, is that we've done 111 episodes with no break, every week. It loving tires you out and becomes so much more of a...job. Something you gotta do. If someone is a listener, they can choose to tune in or not. We can't. There's been days where I've been so depressed or stressed out due to other personal reasons, the last thing I wanna do is talk about kickstarters or FFXIV for the 11th billionth time. But I can't reschedule it or anything, the show must go on. LPs and videos, well, we can work around that and re-shuffle it, so if someone is going through something, you can wait, and you'll get a better end result. And like I said, I sometimes think the podcast brings out the worst in us. If someone finds that entertaining, that's fine. Glad that you do. But I find I am at my least energetic, engaging and funny. Pat is at his most annoying and least attentive at what others are saying/doing. Woolie is at his most stubborn and defensive, and Liam is at his most naive and confrontational. Don't get me wrong, we've had bits here and there where I've laughed my loudest at something, or we've come up with a joke that's just the best. But I can think of maybe 6 of those out of 111 episodes. I would much rather the podcast be a much more infrequent and free-flowing thing. Do one where we absolutely have something to say and converse about. Not so regimented and structured. We'd pick the best topics or things to discuss that we all have something concrete to add. I don't have anything to say about some Lionhead studio head guy running off to form is own company. Not interesting and I don't really care. Doubt many of our fans do. The podcast before last, we got that phenomenal question about Let's Playing and our channel. What LP would you get rid of, versus a one you would want to never go away. I LOVED that question, and I was so legit interested in it. And we got a lot of feedback from others saying it was the best podcast segment in a while. I would love for us to make up our OWN topics and discuss them. Rather than, "Oh, another SFV character was added, and like every other one before, she/he/it looks cool."

Matt, have you ever tried skipping an episode (when it's not a missed flight/emergency/wedding plans)? Every other podcast has pod members rotating in and out occasionally. I think I might be the only person of the group who feels this way. So it can't just be me rotating out. I know Pat LOVES his soap box and never wants to get off it if he doesn't need to. Don't really know how Liam feels. Woolie certainly can't be off of it cuz he's the only one who knows how to do everything for it. So no, I don't think it's an option.

Do you think making the podcast just a monthly thing is an achievable goal, or do you think too many people would throw a shitfit? That way you could have better thoughts on your "weeks" (not having to mention some weekly show that went to poo poo after two episodes, as an example), not having to mention nothing game news or news that resolves itself right after you report on it, preselected questions from a month's worth of questions, etc. Or hell, just give it a hardline time limit of 2 hours or less or something, I dunno. I think you could easily replace the whole drat thing with more "nothing" playthroughs like Starfox, though, where you just shoot the poo poo the whole time because the game is dumb as hell.

I've brought this up a few times, some changes here and there. They get shot down everytime. So yeah. Pipe dream at this point. I really, HONESTLY shouldn't complain, it's one thing we do, ONCE a week. It's just, the fact that we can never change it, or delay it that often except for the most extraordinary circumstances, it's just...very repetitive. Rarely any video games ever get recorded on Mondays. In fact several LP parts and other stuff have continually gotten delayed and recorded at later times, because recording the Podcast takes up such a huge block of time one day of the week. And also, I never said we'd STOP. I just think...I dunno, it could be done far better and in a more engaging way or format or....something. The sleepycast is the high benchmark for podcasts to me, I never had so much fun than when I was on that. 1-800-I-DUNNO is still the best thing we've ever been a part of. Anyway, I'm kinda done talking about this. TheRealestMatt fucked around with this message at 19:47 on Sep 23, 2015 |
