The other day I saw a player in the plaza who was level 50, but had no rank. That can't be possible, can it?? Someone played all the way to level 50 without touching ranked mode at all?!

Wear whatever makes you look like the freshest squid on the block, and there is no auto-aim so it's probably something you're doing.

Caerulius posted:There's no autoaim. There are motion controls which you might be using without realizing it. There isn't autoaim, but the reticule for guns snaps to surfaces if they're in range which annoyed me a lot when I tried the longer-range ones like the Jet Squelcher. There were times when I couldn't hit someone because I couldn't tell where I was aiming because there were ledges behind them. I just said gently caress it and use the Dynamo Roller which shoots better than many guns anyway

Mr.Pibbleton posted:Powerups depend on weapon selection and play style, I believe there is diminishing returns on attack and defense... and maybe ink swim speed? Ink resistance is super useful though, it allows you to move through enemy ink a lot easier and is super useful for high mobility weapons like the inkbrush. There are diminishing returns on Damage Up, Defense Up, Ink Recovery, Run Speed Up, Swim Speed Up, and Bomb Range Up. Also: All of these except Damage Up and Defense up have the same formula for diminishing returns in that everything after a main (or after the first sub if you don't have a main) is half the value of the base benefit. Subs tend to be half the value of a main, and the primary reason why there is confusion over whether or not 3 or 4 subs equals a main is because if you don't have a main of the same ability, its three subs (1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1) to equal a main, but if you have a main the first sub is halved so you'd need four subs ( 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1) to equal a main.

I'm starting to like inkbrushes, after being terrible with them for so long. They're a helluva lot of fun, especially with ninja squid. I decided to actually care about my abilities, and I'm happy that I was able to put together an ensemble that incorporated swim speed up and ninja squid, plus ink resistance while looking like something an actual person would wear... ...though I'm not too jazzed with the big red Chuck Taylor clownshoes. I have other shoes that do the same thing, I'll switch them out tomorrow.

The Shoes are Lackluster in this game, kind of wish they would have gone with more of a general leg area then just shoes. Like throw in Knee pads (to match the bike helmets), jeans, non-spat shorts, stuff like that.

I know I've got what it takes to get to S Ranks (heck I've beaten a couple of S ranks to get where I am) but it's just so much more intense that my fat goon heart is pounding by the end of a Ranked Battle, and I could only take so much at a time (in between handfuls of corn chips). :<

Just stumbled into a Splatoon Amiibo 3 pack at Toys R Us, so I guess I'm in it all the way now. Looks like Girl is fairly easy with the Sniper stuff. The boy is not that much harder, but the lack of range on the splat roller is a nightmare in some parts. The Squid is all over the place though, the Time attack challenges are easy when you notice that you have infinite Kraken, but the limited ink Stages are very difficult until you memorize when and where to ink.

So I hear that Damage Up actually increases the kill range for inkbrushes. Can anyone confirm or deny? I know it won't decrease the numebr of hits to kill.

I believe it decreases damage fall-off for everything that has it, so it would effectively increase one-hit-kill range, yes.
