It was a Freep thing from, like, 2008, so it was a long time ago, but I recall it had something to do with 1) you had to make sure your church wasn't facing Mecca (liberal churches were secretly Islamic outposts), and 2) there was something Muslims would leave at the altar/back wall of the church to redirect prayers to Mecca. Freep's religious wing is weird, even for Freep, and prayer warriors might very well be heavily inspired by Dragon Ball Z.

Pot turns people into liberals? HUH? Do I look like a liberal?

I lit up my first one in 1973. Never stopped since although I haven’t been able to indulge in a couple of years, don’t know anyone around here and I’m not about to go looking on the street.

I’m far from a liberal. I’ve known several others over the years as well, although quite a number certainly do lean that direction.

I do however, think legalizing anything else would be pure insanity. If I were to have it my way, I would crack down on dealers selling hard drugs, and send everyday users into some sort of rehab assistance, rather than jail. Pot would be decriminalized, rather than outright legalized, and the insane taxes and fees Colorado implemented would be discouraged. That does not discourage the black market, which is where a lot of the associated violence originates. When they originally legalized it, retail prices were 4X what local Louisiana street prices were.

Anyone who thinks kids won’t find a way to get their hands on some is delusional. You think I didn’t manage to get booze when I was 16? I quit booze in 1978...after several years of way too much of it...quit everything else too, I tried out a lot of stuff...

Except pot. Not addicting, I would have known many years ago. No withdrawals whatsoever and I’ve quit many times if I couldn’t find or afford it. Never affected my job, I’ve usually had a reputation as the best in the shop. I’ve learned to be a carpenter, machinist, mechanic, computer repair tech, photographer...and as a machinist I also learned TIG welding, brazing, calibration of measuring instruments, drew my own blueprints, tool grinding, drill and end mill sharpening, many aspects of machinist work most never have to even think about. My IQ is still around 145, contrary to claims it reduces your IQ, I’ve continued studying and learning since leaving high school in 1973, still do. If you exercise your brain it’s just like your muscles, it stays in good shape.

And I’m nowhere near a liberal and don’t agree with the insinuation that pot causes liberalism, I don’t think it does. Much more likely the indoctrination going on in our schools is responsible for that. Most of the liberal pot smokers in the country right now were probably already liberals before they knew what pot is.

People actually believe that Catholics pray to Ba'al. Like, when they are in their churches and cathedrals praying in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, somehow the Pope hijacks those prayers and redirects the power to Ba'al.

And most of the people who believe this are unsurprisingly fundamentalist Protestants who believe in the 'individual relationship' with Christ, so I have no clue how they think that an individual Catholic praying to Jesus is having those prayers hijacked and redirected to the Sun God Ba'al by a guy in Rome. We Christians ought not to be misled, the Christian solution to the world's problems is not leftist or rightist, not socialist or conservative but it is a person. The solution for a Christian is Jesus Christ.
Hence, the entire argument about whether or not the nostrums of the Left comply with the snippets of the Bible misses the entire point. The authority of Christianity does not derive from its grand strategies for combating poverty but from a single strategy of granting new life to individuals who might be poor or who might be rich but are bankrupt in their souls. To argue and dispute the secular political or environmental strategies of Christianity is to cause the faith to descend into competition with sharia or with Marxism, that is, to equate Christianity with social reform rather than with salvation.

As a Protestant, I believe the purpose of the Christian church is to save souls and not to save the environment.
The Pope might indeed be the Vicar of Christ but when he gets into the business of rendering unto Caesar he is no more than any leftist advancing life controls contrary to human liberty. Whether his nostrums comply with snippets from the Bible or are contrary to other provisions of the Bible, are of no theological value and of no secular value. That is not to deny, however, that Christianity offers the world the best environment for the secular prosperity of mankind and the proof is in the relative dystopia produced by other theologies such as Islam. That secular advantage is a side effect, not the raison d'ętre of Christianity.

The message is a person not a white paper even if it's called an encyclical on the environment, the economy or poverty.

What's heartbreaking is all of those people go to everlasting death because they did not go to Jesus for salvation - when a muslim is dead, they stay that way - that is what is heartbreaking - John 3:16

Why? I thought all things were the will of allah? So should we not as good muslims and infidels celebrate this expression of his will?

Someone needs to pick a faith and go with it.

A shame: hundreds of Hajj pilgrims killed and hundreds more injured in the heartbreaking stampede in Mina

A crying shame: the venue was only half full

Why does that keep happening? I know this is the worst incident that's happened in a while, but I remember reading something about how every year there's always at least a few deaths from trampling during the Hajj. Is this really just an unavoidable problem? Like there's just nothing that could be done to prevent this?

We can't even prevent deaths on Black Friday.

Considering that millions of Muslims take part in the Hajj every year it is probably safer than going to a mall on Black Friday.

I knew the Black Friday comparison was coming. That said, Black Friday sees one or two people die at different locations each year. The Hajj is always at the same city. You'd hope that might give the authorities an advantage, at least as far as tracking where people are most likely to be injured or killed and allow them to make necessary adjustments.

It's one of the largest crowds in the world trying to complete a religious ritual within a relatively short amount of time. The Saudis have taken a lot of steps towards making the ritual safer, but those safeguards failed this time.
