Probably a dumb question but if I start using 1password, should I start removing passwords from my iCloud keychain? I've never used a password manager before and don't really know best practices.. I'd be using it for my iPad, iPhone and possibly MacBook if I like it on the mobile devices.

You're fine using both, I do. 1Password is more flexible, but iCloud keychain is way more convenient for Safari.

Concerning the verge stuff, that site is complete and utter trash, ad blockers don't fix the garbage content on it anyways. Anyone find out they were running any apps developed by idiots using the bad Xcode package that was passed around on Baidu?

I skimmed the past 10 pages or so, but apologies if this has been talked about. What's the best app to annotate/take notes on PDFs with a stylus? I'm looking for something like Drawboard on Windows. I have Goodreader and love it for just reading/highlighting, but I want to try to do more full editing on my iPad, and want to include basic handwritten notations with a stylus. I saw PDFPen Pro that looks like it does all I want, but is it worth the $20?

PDF Expert (https://readdle.com/products/pdfexpert5) is what I use and it works well. I use PDFPen on my Macbook, but don't really see a reason to use it over the less expensive PDF Expert on iOS.

I purchased the 'Pro' upgrade for PlayerXtreme to unlock NAS support, but it won't play any audio for my MKV files. The only reason I purchased the upgrade was to get to my files which subsequently don't work, so I'd rather get my money back as the app is useless. And actually, on that note, what's the best video player for streaming from a NAS? I've got a variety of files from dvd, bluray and TV rips and I would love to be able to play them on the iPad.

Just about every major ad blocker in the desktop world has done the exact same thing so it's not unprecedented. It's just part of the arms race.

Endless Mike posted:So why don't you explain it in easier terms? Eyeo, the company behind Adblock Plus's development, is funding Crystal's dev in exchange for using their 'acceptable ads' whitelist (in addition to a separate user-modifiable whitelist). The history behind Adblock Plus's whitelist is long and has been written by writers far better than I, so I won't get into it. The option will not be mandatory, and will not be automatically turned on. I'm assuming the other poster is up in arms about the fact that companies cannot pay Crystal's dev in exchange for a spot on the whitelist, which is true (and may or may not have been underreported or glossed over by tech journalists. I don't know, I don't read many of them). However, as the dev does not manage Eyeo's whitelist (and has no intention to manage his own whitelist), companies are free to go over to Eyeo and negotiate with them, which will affect Crystal's whitelist. All this information is sourced directly from the Crystal dev blog post. Make of it what you will, I don't use Crystal to begin with. I don't intend to inject my own thoughts into this particular post!

And looking at the people/companies behind them.
