Do the huge ships really have that large of a sales foot print past their initial release anyway? It feels like there is a big moment of sales, then practically nothing after that, which is why I said one year. I know plenty of people who bought the huge ships, knowing full well they would seldom/never be played just because they wanted the cool looking models. That, and I feel there is enough people in the hobby who just jump on everything the second it releases anyway because they are completists. I could sort of compare it to how individual issues of comics come out on a weekly basis, but collections and trades of those issues come out later. Those trades do not kill the sales of individual issues. Not the best comparison, but still.

Or you may be right and I'm wrong; I;m just trying to find a way to give Fantasy Flight my money and support for the stuff I want without buying a bunch of stuff I find useless, and without having to resort to 3rd party sellers.

It might be more reasonable to ask them to repack stuff into more broadly-appealing packages eventually? For instance, a new T-65 pack which includes Luke, R2-D2, and C-3PO with an X-Wing with some Dagobah pond scum painted on it would be a reasonable package to keep those cards available.

TheCosmicMuffet posted:

Well the idea behind those tables was that they'd be full size (>3'x3') and detect the presence of the ships (something they were known to be able to do--there were already demo games where you put a shape or a card down on the table and it would respond with different effects or tools). So it would be like a tabletop game of Xwing, except the table top and attacks could be animated, and the measurements would always be 'perfect' because after the starting position, you'd just place the ship whereever it had to go as measured perfectly by the computer.

Oh man, like the original Microsoft Surface? Yeah, that'd kick rear end, but it'd be crazy expensive.

ROLL INITIATIVE!!

Ran a list today that was
Echo (TIE Phantom + Recon Specialist + Fire Control System + Advaced Cloaking Device)
Deathrain (TIE Punisher + Ion Bomb + Proxy Mine + Plasma Torpedos + Extra Munitions)
2x Academy Pilots (TIE Fighters x2)

I managed to drop an Ion Bomb today with Deathrain that hit seven ships on the second turn. That included both of my TIEs and Deathrain himself, but it was okay.

The enemy had just K-turned his four-ship formation, but I blocked it with a pair of TIE fighters. They jumbled up and didn't face the right way. Deathrain tossed the bomb in front of himself before moving. He didn't make it out of the blast radius, and I lost one of the TIEs due to concentrated fire, but that was okay. My other TIE and Deathrain were behind them.

My opponent never really recovered from it.

He tried to fake me out by running white maneuvers instead of clearing his stress, but I didn't fall for it. He didn't break formation, and I correctly read his moves for the rest of the game. He didn't get a single shot at me for two more rounds.

He finally cleared his stress and tried to K-turn, but I read that too and did the same, putting my TIE and Deathrain behind him again.

Echo was always off to the side, and I got shots most rounds. Rolled for poo poo with Echo, but that last Academy Pilot was MVP. Consistently landed in range 1 behind the enemy, and consistently landed at hit or two every turn.

It was beautiful.

Jesus why do the Nova Squadron guys have to drone on and on about the most inane poo poo? And why do they invite a statistician on to tell us that an X-wing is 1.7 attack but only 1.2 defense when you factor in their attack dice, defense dice, shield and hull, thus making them a glass cannon; meanwhile the TIE Advanced from Wave 1 is only 78% efficient compared to a TIE Fighter paired with Howlrunner making it 115% efficient.

Statisticians that think normal people care about raw data are the worst.

I kinda like that approach- what would you rather hear about? pewpew sounds? Trying to describe moves in the game with no video?

The basic gist of the mathwing approach is that the 8 ship swarm is the most efficient playable(e.g. not 4x shuttle) jousting list and the 8 tie swarm is the benchmark they use(100% efficiency). It's obviously not the be all and end all- the PWT ships are, for example, poor jousters overall, but they certainly are a big part of the meta.

I will say if you haven't read the whole mathwing thing it's really hard to follow the numbers(78% of what?) was my thought the first time I heard those numbers. You can pretty much say "this ship is a good jouster and has a dial heavily geared toward low speeds" like the B wing and "this ship is good at nothing in particular except having pretty good aces" like the T-65 X wing.

Autothrusters are probably better on those guys, yeah. I'd almost think about doing a list that's super-Wedge and four naked prototype pilots. Even low PS A-wings can get into some really annoying places.

Expose is a bad card. Even with R2-D2, you'll get focused down in single turns if you're an X-wing with 1 agility. Other than that, Cracken with VI and Ion Pulse really forces your opponent to spend any tokens they might have on defense. I'm a huge fan of Opportunist, and this list seems like Cracken might be good at clearing tokens for that. The Proto with Stealth Device isn't my cup of tea; I'd rather have an Autothruster and a point somewhere else, but that's personal preference at that point.

Unrelated:

Luke Skywalker (28) [32]
R2-D2 (4)

Poe Dameron (31) [34]
R5-P9 (3)

Horton Salm (25) [33]
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D6 (1)
Wired (1)

Total: 99

I'm disappointed that I can't find one spare point for Autothrusters on Poe, but the idea of Horton starting the game with a 4 forward and then getting a target lock for literally every shot the rest of the game amuses me.

Panzeh

Here's how I'd work a list like that:

Wedge Antilles (38)
X-Wing (29), BB-8 (2), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Prototype Pilot (15) x 4
A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2)

Wedge's main defense is going to have to be his unpredictability(which is why I don't like the opportunist-R2d2 builds or rather I do like seeing them because Wedge is an easy mark) and BB-8 with PtL gives you that. The As are going to be there to block and sometimes you'll have a jousting advantage and can put a decimator in the dirt. They will demand attention if you fly them right.

I actually did have Autothrusters on the A-wings but then I realized I don't actually have the cards and proxiers are filthy people (I proxied Warhammer for years). What ETP do you recommend instead?

Strobe will tell you opportunist- I like Push the Limit or Predator, both ways to give you more action, which will be important with engine upgrade. Lone Wolf would also be an interesting choice here, one of the few defensive buffs that isn't way overpriced or weak.

Opportunist needs a list built around it to work. If you're going for a fits-anywhere EPT, Predator kicks rear end on Wedge. If you already have Engine Upgrade, PTL is probably more raw utility, but Predator gives you rerolls whether you've done a boost, stressed yourself, or what, and it works fantastic against low PS ships.

Munitions Failsafe because I had a point leftover. Or I could get rid of that and choose a different torpedo for Wedge, or something else entirely.
