Panic! at Nabisco posted:I'm going to save you so much frustration right here: crafting to make gear as you level is not really worth it, it's much easier to just buy HQ gear if you need it (or ask goons who will almost certainly shower you with gifts). Crafting is really a game for people who have every crafting class at 50 or higher. Think of it as a totally different game from the battle side. Vil posted:Gathering will remain boring, though fishing has a certain zen to it. However, gathering will change from "boring and basically pointless" to "boring but gets you poo poo you can't buy from NPCs, only from other players who themselves gathered it". Generally somewhere around level 15. Below that, it's already true for shards, but shards are crap for experience after you gain a few levels. So what I'm getting from this is that gathering is what it is, and crafting is as much of a sink as I expected. I was dabbling, but I blew through all of my early Gil trying to level Carpentry up to level 10 after leveling Leatherworking to 10. I wanted to sample a few other things before moving on with the story. I'm glad I tried Conjurer at least, because that class turned out to be surprisingly fun so far. So crafting is more of a gil-making game than a kill monsters game. I guess that ties into the style of what this game is trying to sell in terms of options. Cool. Thanks for the replies.

They basically need to decide, once and for all, whether they're fine with crafters being able to make raid-quality gear or not, with all of the RMT encouraging that can bring. This half-assed stuff right now pleases no one. Otherwise, the only alternative is doubling down on glamour gear (e.g. the Thav stuff) for high-end crafting. Only do crafting if you really enjoy the premise. It's possible to make gil leveling up crafting, but it's way more likely that you'll be spending literally dozens of millions in the process instead.

The gold seller spam in this game is about as bad as I expected; I'm level 16 now and I've gotten probably 40+ whispers from gold sellers. I'm kinda surprised there's no "report spam" function in the chat.

Questions 1) Does this game have bards, and are they any good 2) Does this game have player housing 3) How easy/hard is it to solo in this game as a bard 4) How much is the game and how much is the monthly cost

Heavensward will run between $30-40 for non-collector's edition. Standard cost a month is $12.99. You start with a "class" then once you hit level 30, you can turn it into a "job" provided you have an appropriate cross-class leveled to 15. For example, bards require a level 30 archer and level 15 puglist. It's a weird system that they're going away from sort of with the expansion jobs. edit: this explains it well: http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Jobs

khy posted:I've been browsing the FF14 site and it's somewhat unclear as to the distinction between a class and a job. Can anyone clarify for me please? When you get a class to level 30 and have a certain secondary class to level 15, you can do a quest and get a job stone. Equipping the job stone gives you a sizable stat boost and gives you access to certain skills that are only accessible to the job, not the class, which you'll acquire at levels 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60. The downside is you get fewer cross-class slots but that doesn't actually make a significant difference, so you should always get your job stone as possible and equip it right away. The new jobs in Heavensward start at 30 and have no corresponding class; you're just always a DRK or AST or MCH.

Jobs require level 30 in one class and 15 in another. In general, jobs are more specialized and more potent than classes. They also use the same level as the parent class. GLD at 30 and CNJ at 15 open the PLD job, which is a more effective tank than GLD.

There was a brief window of time where if you disconnected while in Amdapor Keep on one character, you could go online on your second character and send a friend request to your alt while they still appeared as being online in an instance. I believe the people who managed to pull this off still have their alts on their friends list to this day. I wish I had done this.
