Duryea finally fully replaced Brent Guerra today. Outstanding game. Full props to Freo too, fought hard despite their Brownlow winner being clearly injured. Mundy always plays fantastically well against us and this was no exception.

Even though I loathe Freo, Pav was a good footy player. Shame he didn't really see any great success but he was always a great leader with the Dockers and he should go down as one of the all time great forwards. Duryea was something else in that game though, some of those spearing passes he made were ~champagne~ That passage of play where Puopolo burst through on the wing and the Hawks strung together for a goal was probably the highlight of the night. Freo shot themselves in the foot with costly turnovers and butterfingers.

The Freo Pavliches, I could live with that. I couple of the people I watched the game with are doctors and said they wouldn't be surprised if it comes out that Fyfe was playing with hairline factored in his leg.

Pretty much the whole bar wearing hi-vis and barracking for the hawks. A fight broke out involving the two freo supporters. They fought each other over comments regarding Ross Lyons legacy. I watched the second half on the huge screen in the Northridge piazza on some bean bags. Surrounded by some dad's and kids kicking footy, dudes smoking weed and one Dockers fan flying into a rage and punching/throwing his bean bag when hawks pulled away. Overall A- Would do again

"While we are always disappointed in any behaviour that upsets other fans or reduces the enjoyment of the game, it's important to remember that more than 41,000 people were at the game and nearly all of them were well behaved," Domain Stadium's general manager Gavin Taylor said in a statement. It's pretty sad about Pav, probably feel the same way I did about someone like Robert Harvey retiring. Problem is, Freo's current setup is incapable of blowing teams away, and I think Lyon wasted Pavlich through Lyon's whole tenure by not finding someone to complement him - which probably wasn't entirely Lyon's fault as you can't just grow key forwards like mushrooms, but it wasn't like they were forthright in trading for one. There was no doubt that there was something up with Fyfe and had it not been a cut-throat final he would've been given a long rest, but he still played a pretty good game. As for the fans, well, the ones on the fence were being opportunistic. Fans in Melbourne can get pretty feral too but usually everyone's got friends that barrack for other teams and go together to games so they've been better socialised, and if they get aggro they're going to bite their friends instead of some stranger. Now I've got another damned grand final to be nervous about.

So many analysts have made the point that football as it currently stands is a hugely momentum based game. You need the ability to shut your opponent down when they're on top as well as damaging them when you get it back. Strangling a game out for 120 minutes simply isn't a viable and sustainable gameplan at the moment. Re: Targetting a key forward, they have tried to get one every year since Ross has been there and people just haven't wanted to go. A big part of me still thinks you don't take unfit players into high pressure games because if they are going to get found out anywhere it's there. He was doing pretty much nothing in the first quarter when a lot of the game was decided.

Bringing in underdone players for key finals is a conundrum if they're the kind that can break a game through a few acts, like we had that issue with Rioli coming in for last year's GF, although his question mark was more about fitness coming back from a strain.

When does Subiaco finally go away? This is the second time in two weeks that Like Breust has been shoved into exposed fencing (again, super dangerous). They clearly aren't spending any money on it to upgrade them. Edit: Also I hope Fyfe hasn't done any more damage to himself by playing. A lot of careers get shortened drastically by playing on stress fractures.

We've been trying to find a second forward for Pav since the Connolly era, where we traded Tarrant in for example, and we've had quite a number of big guys come through but have just not been able to make the jump from state/junior leagues to AFL. The biggest error of judgement (in hindsight) was picking Jayden Pitt in the 2010 draft, who unfortunately had to retire early with heart irregularities, when we should have pick Jack Darling, who at the time had big spots on him as he was/is a massive dickhead, but would have made the Freo forward line pretty formidable over the last few years.

Has anyone mentioned the weather forecast for next week..? Suggesting it could be in the top 5 hottest grand finals ever, temperature 28+. Love it. Grand Final Day BBQs are probably my favourite event of the year. Way better than that Saints vs Cats GF which like 11 degrees (but felt about 5).

I don't remember all the numbers offhand but I'm pretty sure Freo was somewhere close to dogshit last night on set shots, too. Being the sort of team they are and kicking that poorly doesn't help whatsoever, especially against a Hawthorn side that's so explosive.

It felt like two five minute periods (felt like 5 minute periods, was probably 10 minutes or so) where Hawthorn just dominated and kicked bags really set the night. Freo played better for large portions of the night, but they just never seemed to get anything for it. If this happens against West Coast I just don't think we'll get to the three-peat.

Yeah freo are definitely pinning a lot on Taberner at the moment. He looks good in patches but seemed to be too lightly built. Also he was pretty bad last night.

Can't remember who, but one of the analysts a few months ago said that for Freo to win the flag they need to play Fyfe in the forward line and I think I agree. Obviously it wouldn't have been in full effect had he last night, and he got beaten 1on1 by Frawley late, but he would add a lot of potency playing out of the forward 50 and they should have the depth to cover him in the midfield.
