Possibly evil hands pulling you into darkness could be a literalisation of Davros trying to make the Doctor turn evil but that seems a bit of a stretch. E: oh, or actually, the Doctor abandoned Young Davros to be pulled into darkness, the disembodied hands symbolising that there was no specific will behind how Davros turned out, the only will involved was the Doctor choosing to not save him. Also they're creepy. 2house2fly fucked around with this message at 15:29 on Sep 26, 2015 |

ah i didnt even consider the function of the things. this is the pivotal point that pulls davros into darkness. the doctor is his possible salvation.

Dabir posted:Nice rant but a weird mishmash of old and new tech is an established part of the war on Skaro. I think the thing that annoys me the most is the it is the Daleks. Moffat can't come up with anything new and keeps revisiting and re-writing old characters. He's like a comic who told a few funny jokes, but then keeps repeating variations of the same jokes over and over again until everyone is sick to death of them.

Dabir posted:Nice rant but a weird mishmash of old and new tech is an established part of the war on Skaro. I couldn't actually read his rants because most of them became this self parodying self trolling white noise bullshit, but there was one problem I had with the way the war was shown. Davros, as far as I could imagine, was a very old man in Genesis. A very twisted, old man who had lived for a very long time. By the time of Genesis, his present, they were JUST starting to degrade to the point of using muskets and simple fire arms, maybe arrows were found on the battlefield though for the life of me I don't recall any. How in the world did some poor schlub get stuck with a *REALLY* primitive bow and arrow back when Davros was a child? That's way too early to be resorting to literal stone age weaponry. It's not a major point of the episode and it doesn't bug me too much, but it is annoying. I also wish the Skaro planes weren't literally bi-planes but at least they didn't reuse the spit fires from Victory.

A machinegun probably wouldn't have worked for the scene. The bow shows the futility of a retaliatory attack better, and establishes that this guy is a good guy because he's against the odds but decides not to attack anyway. With a gun people would just be wondering "why didn't he shoot the plane?" Although I agree, literally giving him just a bow and arrow is pretty funny.

I watched the first few episodes of Genesis today and Harry had a line about how they'll be using bows and arrows soon, so I think it's a reference to the classic episode. And it's an obvious way to show the watcher the technological disparity. A bit hamfisted though.

The hands of the dead reaching up to drag a child into a grave is a pretty straightforward call for the cyclical nature of war and hate. Linking them to landmines is both a multi-pun and pulls in the idea that the land itself is hostile, the war can persist beyond the deaths of everyone in it.

Wait, what. The internet (tardis wiki) says that the Doctor's buddy in the medieval castle was only turned into a Dalek eyestalk puppet by one of the snakes during the tank scene while the doctor was being distracted by the rest of the colony. I didn't catch that at all, I thought the dude was an eyestalk guy to begin with.

At first I thought Kikka's idea about analyzing the symbology of this episode was dumb but now I'm kinda getting into it. When Clara finally catches up with The Doctor he's riding a giant dick while loudly playing with his dick, he's taught the crowd to talk like dicks and is subsequently attacked by a cabal of dicks. The scene ends with a dick growing out of a human face. Like, this isn't even delving into the phallic nature of airplanes or the Dalek ball city.

The sonic screwdriver unquestionably represents a dick, see Day Of The Doctor when they compared them. So the Doctor giving his screwdriver to Davros represents his shame at what he's done, throwing away his manhood, as well as being a commentary on the paedophilia scandal that has forever tainted the British entertainment industry.

I guess he could have been "infected" at that point, I just assumed that he'd been a Dalek-plant all along but then I guess that wouldn't make sense as to why Colony was slithering around the galaxy trying to find him.
