Missy pushing Clara down was predictable but hilarious, as is Capaldi in the Davros chair. Shades of Hartnell in the Dalek costume.

Well that was great. "Supreme Dalek, your sewers are revolting" was the best line in an episode full of them. I hope the entire reason they thought up this plot was for that. e: also Sonic Shades are good

So... the Daleks can fly and are driving tanks. Why exactly is squishy organic things oozing up from the sewers even remotely a problem? Also, sonic shades *shudder* There were some reasonably fun bits early on, and I got quite into the talky bits with Doc and Davvy, but saw the trap comings miles off, and the ending felt weak as anything. I saw glimmers of what I'd hoped for from Capaldi when he was in the Davros chair early on, but... I've been pretty uninspired by this season so far.

Now that we've seen both episodes, I'm not quite sure how well they hold up as a complete story, both felt very distinct from each other despite being one story. That said, I thought the second was stronger than the first, mostly because it included a number of excellent one-on-one scenes either between the Doctor and Davros or the Master and Clara. The stuff where we see how a Dalek's speech is interpreted was really fantastic too.

They could ooze into the cracks and spaces in the Dalek casing and not be prevented by the interior defense system because it wouldn't recognize it as foreign matter, just "more" Dalek. So you've got homicidal Dalek goop inside choking the Dalek mutant to death because it's insane with rage and pain and furious at having been rejected/left to ooze eternal in a sewer.

Yeah, I enjoyed the first part as a piece of fluffy nonsense that passed 45 minutes well enough, but as a 2 parter its disjjointed at best. This weeks was much better as a coherent episode. Dubious about the sonic shades. Okay as a one off thing, but I dont think it would work if its continued as his sonic device. Although it would be hilarious if while wearing them he cant see anything which is made of wood.

For a minute I was convinced we'd see dozens of Kaleds punching their way out of Dalek shells. Homicidal Dalek poo was pretty good though. And probably expected, given the Master's familiarity with sewers.

I repeat. The daleks CAN FLY. Indeed, when the plan all came together and DAVROS WAS VICTORIOUS most of them WERE loving FLYING. Again, how is squishy organic stuff coming up out of the sewers remotely a problem when you can hover a foot off the ground, let alone go literally into space?

The "mercy" scene also reminded me of the dalek begging River Song for mercy, which is not a good thing.

I really dislike the whole,"There is a prophecy of a hybrid!" stuff though, would have far preferred Davros just trying to pull a fast one to keep himself alive and enjoying the irony of using the Doctor to do so.

Yeah this was really obviously the solution. Bit of a cop out as well to just say "Ah, now these are super daleks!" when all they do is die to a bunch of slime (despite not having holes poked in them, was the timelordification of the sewer daleks just equipping them with needles?)

It's still not ideal that your city is being ripped to shreds. Enough of a distraction for the characters to escape without necessarily having to assume it's meant to be some kind of dalek doomsday.

Well...it was better than the first part. Missy and Davros were pretty great. Snake guy was worthless. It's rather wasted as a two-parter, considering that 90% of the first part was inconsequential nothing. It's better paced, tighter focused, but lacking cohesion. And when she said 'no' and it came out as 'exterminate'...? I liked the 'dalekified for cheap laughs' bit, the rest just made me wtf a bit. not to mention, surely Clara would have been thinking 'if only I could OPEN THIS DALEK and show him who I am because I know yelling 'I'm Clara' doesn't work'... The Doctor and Missy both had their moments, and I enjoyed Davros' mastermind speech even if it was totally obvious what was going to happen... but the actual plot and the ending just stank. Appropriately enough.

MrL_JaKiri posted:When ever anyone gets their hands on a ring modulator the first thing they do is make funny dalek voice stuff. I've done it myself, I built a voice mod out of an arduino and a mic. Turns out, there's a LOT of acting in the daleks, you can't just say stuff in a normal voice and expect it to sound right, you have to really shout. And in my case, use quite a high voice, as well. The whole plot point about Clara not being able to say normal stuff just felt silly to me, because Daleks throughout the series have at various points been shown conversing entirely normally, and saying things that would normally be out of character (remember Ironsides? Not to mention the ill one from last season). It's like they didn't even stop to think about any of the other episodes in the series and just said 'Clara, trapped in a Dalek, Doctor going to kill her' and worked back from there to find a way to make it into the plot. Jerusalem posted:There have only ever been 4 Daleks with names in the history of the show, and they were specifically pointed out as being distinctly different from all other Daleks. This week was much better than last. I especially liked the part where Davros was congratulating the Doctor on saving his race. I'd like to think the majority of their chat was genuine. Davros: The Most Sympathetic Space-Nazi? Seriously though, every moment between the Doctor and Davros was fantastic. I was also way more into Missy and Clara this week too. All the characters just came across more engagingly, for me, this week. Hybrid prophecy stuff I can take or leave. I'm guessing it's going to come into play with Clara having been inside a Dalek case during that whole regeneration-shenanigan. I also thought the Dalek word-filter made sense; of course they'd have an inbuilt independent thought stopper. It's probably canon inconsistent but who gives a toss about that. Between this and Into the Dalek, I think Moffat is trying to push the idea that the tank is as integral to the Dalek psychology as being a genetically engineered space-hate-race is. I'm alright with that. Judging from the trailer, it looks like next week's bad guy is The Great Intelligence? Or maybe ghosts from the Titanic or something? Just guessing from that one guy in the tophat. Looks cool anyway.

I'd like to see a bit more of her, and I'd like to see a lot more of angry Peter Capaldi Doctor, as well. He's very, very good at angry and sinister, he's shown it in a number of prior roles, and they've under-used that side of him a LOT.
