It's been relatively subtle, but I think that the family, and in particular Morty, getting more used to Rick's interdimensional adventures during this season counts. Last season, Morty was clueless about everything. This season, he's a lot more savvy and morally flexible and even on a couple of occasions has thought his way out of binds that even Rick couldn't figure out.

Summer and Morty have been developing, they're both becoming better at supernatural bullshit and Summer was willing to give up popularity to save Rick's life when she thought he was in trouble. Rick's changed too, he's he cares much more about his grandkids then he did in season one. Beth and Jerry are stuck in a rut, they've had the same "we hate our marriage" subplot like five times now, but that doesn't really bother me much because seeing it so many times in other sitcoms has left me numb to the whole thing. Fraiser is one of the only shows I can think of where a character (Niles) starts the show in a terrible marriage and actually ends up getting divorced and staying divorced for good. Fraiser was also divorced, but he was divorced before the show started so that's not quite the same thing.

Really good episode and I dug the power armor, and how Rick summoned it remotely I like that Rick saw the purge as an opportunity to share a thing he's seen before with Morty in the same way your dad might excitedly have you stop by the roadside attractions he saw as a kid when you're on a road trip together

I did not get into this episode as much as the others. This is not to say that it's getting worse, just that it wasn't for me. This show does still have a way with making me think stuff on it is real, like that Paddy Mason gag .
