Orabilis posted:I'm taking the Rapid Blaster to that and wrecking people. It's fine for getting kills, sure, but the map's design is awful for splat zone, since it really just comes down to the last minute or so. It's really really easy to defend the zones once you have control: the zone on your side is super easy for you to get to and super hard for the enemy to get to, so it's no big deal to watch after. Their zone is actually surprisingly hard to them to attack: they only have two ways to engage from - the direct path, and from behind the wall. The direct path is uphill, so you're at an inherent disadvantage right off the bat. You're completely vulnerable to the other side of the gap, and since you need to be firing at your splat zone you need to leave yourself blind to that side entirely. If you take the wall route, you leave yourself wide open and are more or less easy to kill - your only real strategy to not get immediately picked off is to squid to the top of the wall, the ride over to the far side and drop down, hoping you're behind the enemy. These are all little things, but it adds up to making it very difficult to push a counter-offensive once the enemy has control. Your best bet is usually to do a split attack on both zones, but good luck coordinating that without voice chat. Almost every game I've had on it either one team grabs it at the start and holds it for basically the entire match, or the ownership flips 1/2-2/3 of the way through, and then the other team can't regain control in time to get the lead back due to the time buffering system. I'm in A rank so players aren't phenomenal, but this has been so consistent i think it's just a flaw with the map's design in general.

Don't both buckets kill in two shots? I figure the wider arc of the tri-slosher would make it the better weapon, not accounting for subs.

Five or six games today I've lost due to a major comeback. My team will get in the lead, stay that way for most of the game, then lose in the last minute. Just lost a Splat Zone match where we had 3 points to go, and the other team had 60~70.

I'm having a bit of a weapon crisis. For a while I've used the Tentatek Splattershot, which is a good weapon with good subs, but it's not cutting it for me any more. I can take out rollers and other splattershots pretty fine, but anything that out-ranges me often keeps me pushed back. I've been liking the mini splatling, but its ineffective if someone gets close to me, it takes more shots to kill, and my effectiveness at holding whatever down is more or less determined by whether my team can fight ahead of me. I'm not really sure what to use.

The problem, it sounds like, isn't your weapon. It's your technique. Learn how to be stealthier, and never engage in direct firefights with people who out-range you.

Ranked seems to add a lot more in the way of alternate paths for flanking, which the shorter guns and rollers excel at.

Now I'm focusing on keeping a closer eye on the map during matches, that's also helping a great deal. The trislosher is so fun. I was cleaning up on tower control and splat zones yesterday. Feels like my favorite so far to lay ink down and get flanking. Then popping a bubble and watching people flee - you can drive them right into your teammates. I'm still bad at using the disruptors to best effect. Manky fucked around with this message at 12:12 on Sep 28, 2015 |

The stealth aspect is one reason why as a aggressive firefighter I tend to do some smart inking, namely inking entry points, inked walls and such to flush out or expose potential sneaky bastards. Stealth is a big part of Splatoon, but so is countering it.

I love the Inkbrush Nouveau. The ability to quickly engage and disengage, leave traps, and Bubbler your way out of danger is great, plus it has good ink coverage.

I don't really "get" disruptors but it seems like they'd be pretty good at pinning people in place for follow-up attacks from you or your teammates--which is probably why you see them on fast-firing, short-range weapons most of the time. Disrupt and hit them while they can't move.

I like tossing a disruptor immediately upon seeing someone. It usually disorients them enough to get an easier kill on them.
