She wanted me to get contact info for the BDE Cdr so she could inform him.

I thought mine was with my NCOIC mandating all these "this is how the real Army works" bullshit. Like a formation for 5 people. However, that camera gun is horrible. Things I've learned in the Army that won't affect me when I get out: Highly Encouraged = Mandatory

Anyone know a good GPS to use for military purposes? Our cadre told us a GPS is a good investment since with the current Army budget we probably won't be getting any good ones, if we even get issued one at all. I was looking into some Garmin wrist GPSs.

I was looking into some Garmin wrist GPSs. I had a handheld Garmin GPS/two way radio that didn't cost that much. You could convert it to MGRS but it was slightly time consuming to input coordinates with just an up/down/left/right input. Honestly, there's probably a smartphone app that costs less and works just as well. Stick your phone in a Lifeproof case and use that.

It lets you do MGRS but, like mentioned, it's a bit annoying to enter in coordinates but it works

It is expensive, but depending on your job it may be worth it. At lot of FOs, FSOs, and PLs have them.

I had no choice, I had orders for Germany (that no one ever loving gave me or alerted me about, thanks battalion) with 9 months left in my enlistment. I wanted to stay at Lewis and get out there because I'm from Washington and already had an apartment that I was living in, and family to help me out if I needed it. Battalion CSM and my 1SG tried to pressure me into re-enlisting so they could send me to Germany, since I was supposed to be there a month before this bullshit. It was either re-up for 3 more years and buy into their bullshit about doing my duty (by signing my life away again) or signing a dec statement. I almost caved, but then I grew some loving balls and told them nope, not re-upping. After that is when I became the shitbag of the company overnight. Then my squad leader made a fake NCOER about calling me a piece of poo poo and other untrue bullshit, 1SG and CO taped it on 1SG's door for the whole company to see. Then I got in a fistfight with my piece of poo poo squad leader when he punched me because I told him I'm getting out because of loving idiots like him. That was my last day in the army. Good times.

DONT WALK ON THE GRASS spends 2 hours everyday doing pt on the same grass. stupid loving rule. Is it "unprofessional" to walk in grass? Lmao. I never understood that rule, but at the same time I usually walked on the sidewalk because they're always some E9 whose sole existence is to enforce grass walking. Army needs to go on a ten year skeleton crew, like 10k people or whatever it was after WWI

Thanks guys, i was actually looking at the Garmin 401 but I'll go ahead and try out the MGRS app and save some money. ABOLC must be some kind of collection of dudes that just dont give a gently caress because you got people with their hands in their pockets, walking on grass, etc. I'm convinced the brigade commander next door hates us though.

Haha, nah, for FTXs and such, cadre said they would useful for reports, call for fire and whatnot. I've never had any problem with land nav, being able to terrain associate makes it easy. I actually think land nav is pretty fun if it's not the middle of summer on a course full of giant rear end hills.

I was looking into some Garmin wrist GPSs. The old Garmin 60 and 62 series. The CSX is strongly preferred. The interface is manageable, but a bit annoying. They are, however, built like Nokias, the battery life is absurd, and it's a small enough form factor to tuck in the lower leg pocket on your uniform. I got mine for camping before I joined and still use it whenever I want to avoid orienteering fuckery.
