I don't know why, but the knowledge that absolutely loving nothing is going to come from the Oregon shooting on the federal level has snapped something in me. Cats and/or babies preferred.

I recovered some old photos from 2007 and found these of when a kestrel was nesting behind a window at my dad's work. Those little guys just look so cutely pissed off all the time. Includes one photo of a baby kestrel devouring a mouse and one photo of mama kestrel holding a fat rodent in her claws. The photos are quite big and I should've had resized them in hindsight, so I'm just linking to the gallery. http://imgur.com/a/isIx4

Oh my. They are just the most indignant little balls of fuff, aren't they? We have a problem with highly territorial seagulls nesting on top of our office block and divebombing unwary passers-by, so a manager hires a guy with a tame kestrel (called Percy!) to come by and scare the birds off every week or so. The guy loves that kestrel to bits, after it's finished putting the fear of god into the seagulls it flies down and sits on his arm and he talks to it like it's his baby. It's the cutest thing, this big burly guy and his murderbird, so happy together.

So I'm sure we've all heard about the horror that happened in Oregon. One story that's going around is about a bystander, Chris Mintz, who got shot seven times while protecting others. He survived and his cousin set up a GoFundMe to cover his medical costs (aside from all the bulletholes, both of his legs ended up broken). https://www.gofundme.com/s75ge9y4 I think he's going to be okay. EDIT: Well, crap. I thought this was the Uplifting thread. Do we even still have one of those? Polaron has a new favorite as of 18:48 on Oct 3, 2015 |

I keep seeing his front legs as his back legs, and his back legs as like arms that he's about to put on his hips, and I can't step laughing.

Got a call from my mom today trying to get rid of their giant litter of puppies. (originally 8 total) Unfortunately they are German Shorthairs and I get enough excitement from my corgi. But dang are they cute. To bad they don't always stay small.
