Apparently some people have not been behaving in IRC, but do feel free to ask about merit grinding and such there, ping me if you must. I also have a powerplay/merit guide in the second post, but you really want somebody to wing with and IRC is the place to do that.

The channel hasn't been annexed by the minor faction people despite what they would like you to believe.

BTW, this is correct. Diamond Frogs will need Powerplay grinders, we have a border right next to us that I want to discourage from growing. We have had good success with just a handful of people so I only can gleefully imagine what a week or two of serious fuckery will gain us.

That said, our first few weeks as a power (which hopefully begins today!) will need serious help from all the Diamond Frogs. Missions need to be done, exploration data and goods need to be sold, in order to get DF the faction expanding as much as possible. We aren't nearly as gimped as we were down in Jotunheim re: expanding and we're a different government now - when you are Unfettered, it is a whole new ball game. :getin:

I am hard at work today neglecting my house, personal hygiene, etc to get some exciting new resources set up and fleshed out for you, so stand the gently caress by and listen here for further reports!

I take the servers are still down? This should be easily verifiable, correct? (That our "power" was indeed pushed into the game in said system)

Missions have details like "effect on influence" and "effect on reputation". I'd start with the the high influence missions especially if they work against other factions in the system.

The older non-madcatz X52s or X52 PRO sticks seem fine, it's just the newer stuff that seems to be cheap.

Moved all my ships to Mother Goat last night, really hoping we don't need to do another one of those moves anytime soon.

I bought mine in January of this year. How do I know if it's some Madcatz poo poo? I'd like to know from forum experts that I don't have a lovely flight stick.

I always think of this picture of the wiring inside someones new x-55 they took, when I think of saitek anymore:

Theres another one I seem to remember, but couldn't find, of some more crappy wiring with grease or hot glue just smeared all over.

A lot of people have good luck with saitek stuff and swear by them. The x52 is decently priced for what you get but, eh the x55 at least sits at a price range where you could just get something better.

Yeah, thats the other one I remembered! Hah, christ, I forgot how bad the inside of that thing looks like a very very weird porn flick.

I don't know if they've upped their quality control since then, but for $200 you can do better.

A wire snapped in my X52 from rubbing against the bottom of the housing. I repaired it several times, even replacing the whole wire. The bundle of wires coming from the actual stick aren't secured in any way with just a whole lot of grease keeping them sliding on the bottom.

The repair worked pretty well, but then I guess the electronics got hosed up, making the axes work really badly and buttons events not registering properly, so I gave up and joined the Warthog master race.

Thanks, the CH Fighterstick was my second choice, actually: I've been using my Logitech G13 ever since I started playing Elite and I'm not sure I'm willing to trade this for a throttle at this point. I see people use decade-old CH stuff so looks like longevity is definitely not a problem. Is it worth checking Craigslist/Kijiji for these things or is getting one brand new a really big deal? The Canadian prices are not very good the current exchange rate is terrible.

If you like the G13 then keep using it. I own one and vastly prefer the Pro Throttle, but at the end of the day it's all muscle memory and whatever suits you. A used one would be fine if you can get it, although a new one comes with a 1 year warranty but you have to ship the thing to CA which can be a pain.

Not much on any web-searches for them either. This may be a hint it is a bad idea, but I fancy a change!

Off the top of my head, I don't think their base jump range is all that hot though.

Actually a stripped down Python (no weapons, smaller thrusters and power distributor, all D stuff, 3D shield) can jump around 27 ly so it's pretty decent

but it will cost you 65 millions - enough to buy an exploration Asp, combat Vulture and trading Type 7 all maxed out for their roles.

Moving my Python out to Mother Goat last night the best I was able to get on it was mid-20s, though admittedly I didn't spend a ton of time, just sorted by lowest mass and fit the lowest thing possible for every non-FSD slot.

If you really love the Python look you could probably make it happen, hell at least one crazy person did it in a Sidewinder, but for the price of a Python you could do better.

I had thought about rectifying this by doing a huge jaunt out into the dark for a 9 figure payout but don't have the patience or time for that either.

Exploration is actually a pretty slow way to make money, you just get it all in one big chunk.

Also I wouldn't worry overly much about it, once you do get to a Python you're likely to stay in it for a very long time.

You kid, but I'm still unsure the Anaconda is actually an upgrade. Sure you get more guns, but it's so incredibly slow and you're stuck with large pads only. At least the powerplant changes should make it slightly less vulnerable to a single Vulture/FDL.

There isn't anything against a Python as an explorer. As long as you stay away from the galactic edges. But if you want to go corewards, where stars are close together, you'll probably not have any problems reaching everything.

Also don't use coriolis, it's displaying jump range wrong. Practical experience has shown EDshipyard to be more accurate, so I'm using that instead. Since the Python is a multirole-fit, having 25 ly/jump range and some weapons and an empty slot for Horizon is more than enough. Just put whatever else you want in that free slot until Horizons comes out.
