I just saw Attack on Titan about an hour ago. It is more batshit insane than you can imagine. My sister and I were both amazed that something like that got shown at a non-art theater in the US.

Totally in. I hate Scarlett Johansson's "sultry" voice though. I've come to realize that a lot of my like/dislike of an actor comes to how they use their mouth (and thus why I don't like Aaron Paul that much). I like Johansson normally though.

Why is this getting dumped in February? It looks like fun.

Then again I'm a total sucker for most of what the Coen Bros. do and this looks almost completely in-line with their wheelhouse.

February isn't a dumping month anymore as of this year. Kingsman and 50 Shades doing well made February the month that everyone wants to release R-rated stuff in, iirc.

It really is a composite of poo poo we know the Coen Bros. love:

* Old Hollywood
* Kidnapping
* Neo-Noir
* Some similar actors-- Clooney, McDormand, etc.
* A tone so comedic it borders on spoof

But gently caress if I'm complaining. They do that poo poo really well.

Ah that makes sense. Wonder how long that'll last. At least September/January are reliable cleaning floors.

Every time I watch a repeat viewing of a Coen Brothers comedy it gets better.

I love Intolerable Cruelty but didn't until like the third time. I disliked Big Lebowski on first viewing and now it's practically comedic legend. I'm in for Coen Bros every time.

Hell yes.

Loved the glorious send-ups of the old studio system movies, those shots of Clooney in a sword-and-sandals epic, Tatum tap-dancing with sailors and Johansson doing her best Esther Williams impersonation in a bathing suit had me yelling with laughter.

What a fun trailer!

Ha! I couldn't finish Big Lebowski on my first viewing and now it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

In a just world the author of that would be forced to direct it himself and watch it flop.

But this is not a just world, so he's directing The Flash.

i'm sure it'll be a dope movie, some of the Coen's movies are kinda hard to sell in a trailer. some of the advertising for Llewyn Davis was very weak, and that ended up being one of my favorites of theirs.

Llewyn Davis is so good. Cemented my resolve to follow Oscar Isaac wherever he might go. I love Coen trailers though because they're not about showing you the plot, but showing you the characters and the mood.

Speaking of, do they have final cut on trailers or do they cut them themselves? You know, kiimo?

kiimo
Jul 24, 2003

I'm not sure on the Coen Bros specificall. Usually the editor, producer and the client usually all meet at a finishing house. One for the mix, one for the DI. That's color correcting and sound. The client has gotten it approved by the filmmakers and the studio before you go into finishing. The producer and editor do not have final say, the filmmakers sign off on a late version and everyone agrees as you go. It's collaborative, excepting the rare times when the filmmakers actually make the trailers. Like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Sometimes they argue and don't agree and it's a nightmare and you end up doing 50 versions of a trailer before it's done.

Thanks, that makes sense for the majority of trailers.

It's just Coen trailers are usually (always?) about setting, mood, and characters – but they don't tend to explain the entire plot:
