The best part is that there is actually a sequel to WarGames, and it has almost nothing to do with the first movie. quote:Rebooted, RIPLEY redirects the Predator drone, which she uses to destroy the facility housing Joshua. Joshua warns the professor that RIPLEY's advancing attack would result in obliteration; so Will and Annie flee the facility just before it gets blown up by the drone's missile, with the professor, who was dying from pancreatic cancer remaining in the building at the time, last seen typing extremely fast, finishing with something that looks like an "Enter", and saying "Goodbye, Joshua".

If Anita thinks pacifism is related to feminism, it's certainly not to the degree MacIntosh does. If you read her thesis she practically gushes over Buffy, which is not a pacifist show. I mean, I guess she could've changed her mind, but I doubt to that degree. I recall that the FF curator page on steam also recommends a few non-pacifist games but I gave up trying to find it to give examples because searching "Feminist Frequency" on Steam gives like 1000 impersonator pages.

I know I'm walking on eggshells when I say this, but I've never been totally behind Feminist Frequency. It's not that I think the videos are all full of crap, but there's always something about them that's always sat wrong with me, and I've never been able to ascertain what it is. If I had to give some kind of reason, I think I'd say they seem too clinical, or too shallow. In the last few months, I've read a couple of things that oppose some of the critiques Feminist Frequency has made (Here's one by Jeff Kunzler regarding Mad Max Fury Road and another by Erik Kain regarding Witcher 3.) I know this post is probably a mess (it's late, and I'm not great at articulating my thoughts), and I'm sorry if I coming across as an rear end in a top hat. I don't really chime in on the more hotly debated topic, but this has been brewing in my head for a while, and I wanted to put it forth and see if I'm being unreasonable or in the wrong. A question, though: Did McIntosh actually say this, or is this just some image edit?

If I had to give some kind of reason, I think I'd say they seem too clinical, or too shallow. Well that's because they're incredibly shallow. She spent like three episodes saying "video games have a real bad habit of using women as trophies". If you took the series on its own, it's pretty feminism 101, it talks a lot about surface issues and rarely touches on the root causes. It's only when you realize the sheer volume of threats she gets because of them that they really get any value. Which is fitting, because a key thing in feminism is that context matters.

I think he's more talking about gamers' desire for "control" in terms of how "more choice is always better" (e.g. gamers who whine if killing civilians or children or women or whatever is removed from a game), but it's hard to tell. It's certainly phrased... inelegantly if that's what he meant.

The irony is that if her most radical detractors didn't constantly give her so much ammo (threats on her person, inappropriate comments, etc.) and just let her carry on as she would have, she would not have even half of the attention she has today. Also, people would be more open to look at legitimate criticism of her work rather than treat every negative thing said of her work as from the mouths of misogynists, neck-beards and basement dwellers. Basically, gently caress gamergate.

I don't think you need to be "behind" it, any more than you need to be behind any other Babby's First series. It's not exactly controversial to say FF is pretty shallow and boring, just so long as you don't then descend into "and that's why she's ruining video games and/or literally Hitler reborn." Because FF is super shallow and boring and basically not worth the time spent to watch it if you've already managed to think, "Huh, it's kind of weird how girls don't get to do as much cool stuff as guys in like 90% of these games."
