So, I hear the guys constantly losing their minds over Persona, and I know basically nothing about it. And since I'm poor as hell, I can't afford to upgrade to current gen, so Persona 5 is one of the last notable games coming out on PS3. What the hell actually is Persona? And I'm guessing by the endless characters it seems to have, jumping in at 5 would be a bad idea?

The two halves play into each other. Make friends to power up your guys for battling, get certain battle guys to make friends with people faster. 3 and 4 are only loosely connected outside of the crossover games (Q and Arena), 5 is probably its own thing as well. You can probably safely disregard 1 and 2 unless you're really curious. They're good games.

Persona is Final Fantasy, games are barely related. Personas are a reflection of your true self. But really, they're Pokémons, you can capture new ones, fuse them and do poo poo. The newer games are also part dating-sim, which is better than it sounds and it also lets you evolve better Pokémon if you meet the right people. The music is really good babybabybabybabybabybabybabybabybaby. The battle system has a very strong emphasis on strengths and weaknesses. There's a character in 4 that is literally named Culprit. Woolie told me so.

Thank god Persona comes on systems that allow multiple saves so you can save past the tutorial and then move on. I mean, the one wrench in that is if you want to change your name but I doubt people care that much.

Persona 4 is probably the best Persona game but the pacing in it is totally hosed imo. I feel like it'd be better without the rpg battle-style element being part of it at all (but not getting rid of those segments since they're plot relevent obv), but then it'd basically just be a visual novel where you can physically move around and people don't like video games where you don't beat things up.

In a way I'm like that sucks but in another way it's 9 years old and entering a place that talks about it at this point is more likely to result in casual spoilers. That being said watched this episode of DR to see how the guys try to play off that certain scene, Woolie flat out declaring his hatred for a straight 40 minutes is wonderful  Like even Liam falters as hard as ever has.

Doesn't help that I follow Atlus' twitter and was finally getting in the middle of a playthrough for it when that happened.

In the weakest defense possible of that level of paranoia, it IS a pretty solid twist that has some amount of foreshadowing when you look back. But yea, as said, even Atlus says it's not a spoiler, there's a point where you just have to accept that someone playing Persona 4 in the year 2015 probably won't be duped into getting the Bad End.

It's a lovely twist and Persona 4's murder mystery is one of the worst things handled about it. All of the signs that point to the killer are circumstantial and never actually solid evidence. Hell, if they fought back at all against your accusations then there's no reason they should've been caught.

Fwiw, as lovely as Adachi being the murderer was handled his character development in later games never felt like a betrayal of what they established for his character in P4 and always added to him eventually making him a good character.
