Do the DR games generally have some sort of fourth wall-breaking awareness that it plays off of there or what? I can't believe it's the devs trying to justify the inclusion of the scene. At least the child didn't get grabbed by the hands after the boss battle.

DR games have a lot of gags where they joke about their roles in the story or how they're in a game, but they're usually pretty harmless and in good fun. Ultra Despair Girls does not have that same decency, unfortunately. That being said DR2 has a character who spent most of her life being abused and she uses her occupation as a nurse as a way to assert power over someone, so it's pretty bad sometimes even in those games.

I hate to say this. but they should really think about cancelling the UltraDespairGirls LP. It's beyond repair and it's actively hurting them far more than helping. ESPECIALLY after episode 16.

Man, if the other guys registered accounts here this thread would have zero posts, hehe. I'm fine with Liam, but he has...dissonant opinions, and he definitely doesn't like changes. I think the devil's advocate thing gets overblown here, tho. Every time there's an argument in the podcast, I read posts here and they make it seem like it was a 20min shouting match, when it's usually a couple of minutes of slightly more heated discussion. Which, by the way, happens amongst every member of the podcast, it's just that Liam's hills aren't that palatable.

I think the core of Liam's position on creepy anime bullshit(tm) is that it's okay in eastern countries, so why isn't it okay everywhere? But I don't think he quite understands that just because it's legally considered okay doesn't mean it's morally considered okay. The age of consent in a lot of Japanese prefectures is 16-ish (ish, the legal age in the country's basic law books is 13). And sure they are just drawings and aren't real people or in most cases aren't even based in reality at all, but it's the implication that they are supposed to represent real people that makes it just as wrong as it would be in real life. But even without considering sex itself, the sexualization of people around that age is a real thing not just exclusive to anime in eastern countries, and perpetuating that by saying "it's not that bad, like what you like" isn't such a good position to take.

Geez, just calling out R.Mika's costume as a dumb thing led to a TON of "ironic" shitposting in the SFV thread here. The whole "well, it's fine there, it's how it works there, it's how it's always worked there" schtick is basically "eating around" morally dubious content, and everyone does it to a certain extent. It's just that, again, this specific case is a lot less palatable to start with.
