So I just finished reading Dragonball.. I thought Goku had some kind of adventures with Chi-Chi after beating Piccolo, but it just kinda ends with him flying away with her in tow. I know I've seen some video of him and Chi-Chi meeting Grandpa Gohan. Was that just anime filler?

Then again, DBZ has never really cared much about consistency. while we're on the topic of cell one thing that bothers me is that yeah, goku basically fights him to a standstill then loses by putting all his bets on the kamehameha finishing him off. cell wins but barely. then he fights gohan and after gohan goes ssj2 he goes MWA HA actually i was holding back this entire time! i mean he still gets chumped but does that mean he was loving around with goku the whole time? is that why he was encouraging goku to take a senzu bean, bbecause he was still actually holding back? idgi i mean it kind of makes goku's whole fight meaningless

The point of the fight was so that gohan could see cell's fighting style and get a feel for cell's power. Remember all those conversations where gohan is convinced that goku is holding back because he's comparing gokus power to his own.

It doesn't make Goku's fight meaningless, because it sets up how loving strong Gohan must be when he could have done everything Goku could have done.

My favorite cell sage scene is goku powering up after coming out of the time chamber and everyone quivering in awe while gohan is just standing there, confused about why everyone is so impressed

eh i more meant scenes like where cell is panting for breath but smirking because he knows he's winning don't really seem to match up with him revealing he was actually holding back this whole time i get that goku couldn't win, that's pretty obvious or maybe i'm just griping, who gives a poo poo really

I think the point of the Goku fight was two-fold: give the audience what they've been waiting for and establish Cell is above Goku thus, later on, establishing that Gohan has surpassed his father when he beats Cell.

It's not like he has to spend every waking hour training in there and it's clearly possible to do things like sleep, so it's not like you're experiencing nonstop suffering. I attribute Goku stopping the training to him just being really confident that Gohan will end up going SSJ2 and winning against Cell (which, while it ended up being true, was still really dumb when considering the fact that the fate of the Earth was at stake). It does make sense that Vegeta is always worse than Goku due to overtraining, though. Regarding Gohan not fighting against Cell; even though he had psyched himself up, he's still a child and Cell is super scary and intimidating. So I don't blame him for not fighting at his full potential.

I think my biggest problem with the Cell thing is that he wasn't any more intimidating than Frieza, and Gohan didn't hold back then - plus he'd had a lot more combat experience by the time they got to Cell. It just didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Maybe Cell wasn't fully aware of the zenkai poo poo, so after he ate the senzu bean he got one and was like "hm, I see, this must be my HIDDEN TRUE PERFECT POWER." Also I think in the DBO book, Gohan authors a textbook with do it yourself instructions on how to learn ki powers, which had previously been rare esoteric things. This is why you have hundreds of people farting around with ki powers.

Yeah, and apparently Krillin and Tien start their own martial arts schools (the New Turtle School and New Crane School respectively, I think) and Trunks/Goten start some school based around using swords. (I spent a while reading random articles on the DB wiki last night.)

Wasn't it that Vegeta could have bulked up as much as Trunks did, but he realized that the costs outweighed the benefits?
