Unions are bad because they subvert the power of the meritocratic business owner class, and a pooling of power to production workers is of course the requirement for a communist revolution and then we'll all be the USSR with broken factories and lines for bread because idiot factory workers don't know how to run a stockmarket.

The USSR was good actually.

There is a real cognitive dissonance going on with free market libertarian, capitalists business types not like unions - I mean, what's more capitalist than giving money to a group that will perform a service for you? Even ayn rand was cool with insurance which essentially free market socialism ffs.

Unions impose rules on you and in some cases require membership so it's actually more like a tax, which as we know are always bad due to not being dictated by the market.

Like a country club, or golf club, or a marina, or a gated community. Also, unions sometimes have competing unions.

All of the former are good because they are privileged status symbols for the elite. Market competition between unions is double bad because it requires the existence of multiple unions which, as discussed, are bad.

Something that hasn't been mentioned: Wikileak's copy of the TPP agreement text has a specific requirement for us to implement the 1991 UPOV convention (or sui generis equivalents), extending the period for which legal persons can literally own plants as intellectual property from 15/18 years to 20/25 with stricter rules on exemptions from our current 1978 commitments.

Trade Minister Tim Groser acted unlawfully in withholding some information about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the High Court has ruled.

Anti-TPP activist and University of Auckland academic Professor Jane Kelsey and others sought a judicial review of Mr Groser's decision to reject an Official Information Act (OIA) request for eight categories of documents which related to the 12-nation trade deal.

In a judgement released this morning, Justice David Collins said Mr Groser failed to follow the rules set out in the Official Information Act before refusing her request.

"When the Minister refused Professor Kelsey's request, neither he nor his officials assessed each piece of information requested against the criteria in the Act for withholding official information.

They are probably using the same accounting tricks which the music and movie industries use to deny a greater share of the profits to the artists. In the meantime the economy itself has chocked on its own vomit in a cheap motel room.

The funny thing is that I'd say that if National hadn't put through so many tax cuts they would have been back in surplus years ago.

Did you read the dissenting opinion by the President of the Board of Review?

quote:

Sex is portrayed as very pleasurable at the time even if Devon ultimately regrets his actions. It is treated as an animalistic fun activity.

quote:

Irresponsible sexual activity simply for pleasure should not be engaged in by any teenagers, particularly those as young as 13. It does not equip them for adult sexual life; it may often be physically dangerous. It may contribute to youth suicide when a “relationship” breaks up, and it is not conducive to concentration on academic studies.

This reads like it comes from a 1960's parenting handbook. At least they made the correct decision regardless.
