This thread has taken a really weird turn in recent months.

Like, there's always been a lot of jokes along the lines of "gently caress the rich", but it's become a kind of echo chamber in here about murdering people.Which is funny, because some of the same people who say it are REAL sanctimonious about murder in other respects.

Almost as if we have a cognitive dissonance echo chamber that the "right" is mocked about?

The right never worries about living in an echo chamber, the closest that I've ever seen them come is after 2012 didn't go their way.

They don't worry because most don't care or realize. Least they aren't a bunch of hypocrites on that front!

"...creating a vision of the sort of society you want to have in miniature"
If Centrist Republicans join with Democrats to elect a coalition speaker, many of those Centrist Republicans, god bless them, would likely be voted out of office in the primary, which would greatly increase the chance for a Democrat to win that office.

in other words the chance that Democrats could win more seats would actually go up.

Still highly unlikely, but here's hoping.

I got a FB post from a crazy family member today pumping up a story about freshman rep ryan zinke running for speaker saying he was going to defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic, including Obama. I Google his name and under news was a story about him thinking about running and another saying "zinke too liberal."

They'll talk about a deal with the Dems until Pelosi actually asks for something, then you'll see the usual assholes going on Sunday talk shows crying about how the Democrats are holding the country hostage.

Okay guess what kind of website this is from the quote: Democrat/Liberal or Republican/Conservative

quote:

Similarly, while Ryan was the architect of Obamatrade, Republican voters, by greater than a three-to-one margin, believe that the “free” movement of foreign goods across U.S. borders kills jobs. By more than a four-to-one margin, Republican voters believe that so-called “free trade” will slash American wages

Ryan has worked extensively to both protect the federal policy of adding millions of foreigners to U.S. voting rolls and to partner with Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL)18%
to dramatically expand that policy. The desire of politicos in D.C. and Manhattan to push Ryan’s speakership likely stems from their support for these worker and voter importation plans.

The other thing they could be doing is threatening this in the hopes of scaring Tea Partiers back into line - give them a choice of "Speaker McCarthy or Speaker Conservative Democrat". Probably wouldn't work, but they could be trying.

I've seen a ton of coverage of the Speaker choice and there's always a comment that Ryan is the only one worth considering. Why is it never mentioned that there's almost 250 Republicans in the House and they can only find one worth leading? The left will make fun of that, sure, but it seems like a relevant point for even the normal media to make.

The only way that this would happen is if the GOP gave up something and actually compromised with the Democratic party.

Unfortunately the GOP is about 100x more likely to compromise or capitulate to the tea party wing before they do so to the Democratic party.
