They didn't mention any retroactive counting of WvW ranks / unspent rank points, and the only item that WvW players could stockpile are being devalued. e2 : So PvE players will get their already-completed skill/hero challenge points, but WvW players with a thousand levels under their belt will be treated as if they have none. It's actually pretty cool that I won't have to drag my alts all over the pve map to get hero points, but I can see how I really deserve those points anyway and Anet is effectively stealing from me for not honoring my many wvw levels.

Finally catching up on HoT news. Holy poo poo the new staff legendary is perfect. As soon as I saw it I hoped that the projectile animation would let you throw spirit birds and what do you know, that's exactly what it does. That staff is incredible and I must have it. I kinda like the pistol, too. I'm not cool enough to pull off Quip.

Well to me, it's more like Anet just missed out on a perfect use for the WvW rank points that serve literally no purpose except accumulate after level ~1,100 or something.

Seriously, this is a pretty big change for Mesmer DPS, especially in group PvE stuff, especially if it includes cleave damage under "AoE." (I'm guessing yes.) Keeping three phantasms up at all times is going to be a lot easier with drastically reduced AoE damage to illusions and Chronophantasma in play.

That is actually pretty loving amazing! This should fix the problem with ranger pets dying all the time, and both turrets and spirits being paper thin chances of a skill. At least under AoE.

So I'm about to hit 80 on my first dude (Guardian, ended up doing him over a necro). Most of the info I can find online is somewhat out of date, is berserker direct damage build the best one? Is sinister burn any good? While leveling I was having fun using whirling wrath/judge's intervention and just pulling everything under the sun with gs5, whacking the reset on justice, and burning the living poo poo out of zombies. Is that poopoo in real person content and I should just get soldiers/zerk? Is this poo poo all gonna change in 4 days or is DH gonna be a fun wvw thing and not a real meta thing?

I even feel like I can use "support" phantasms more freely because I know that a) they'll probably live long enough to do useful things and b) I can reasonably assume my other two damaging phantasms will stay alive long enough that I'm still contributing to damage well. Phantasmal Avenger, here I come! And shatters, too, thanks to Chronophantasma. I won't have to feel so bad about a panic Distortion or, like you said, a quick Mind Wrack. Or using Continuum Split to use Time Warp and essentially give Time Warp a 90-second cooldown instead of a three-minute cooldown.

I wouldn't worry too much about which one you pick if you just hit 80, as the rare/exotic gear you'll likely be using is cheap enough to just salvage when you upgrade. Make sure you get cheap food and runes as well, especially for the sinister build.

Man, Spirit Weapons might become somewhat usable. At least Sword of Justice since its damage isn't terrible. Considering I first rolled my Guardian at launch because the concept art for Spirit Weapons looked badass and I haven't used them since, that makes me happy.

So I mentioned that I was having a hard time transitioning from ele to warrior and not really enjoying my engi. gently caress both of those. Took warrior into spvp as greathammer/greatsword with I think soldiers ammy. Thaaaaaat was hilarious, and it feels like they have just enough tools to do their job. Looking forward to trying other weapons. As for engi, I was wondering why he felt just substantially weaker than my ele. Turns out when I left he was in full MF gear and I never reselected stats for his gear. Wheeeeeee grenades for daaaays I also got the dire ascended pistol from a dungeon pvp track.
