So you can break the progression really fast by going to Persephone and salvaging junk yard. 100k+ per cargo container and occasional M6 weapons that go for 3mil +? Sure thing. You pretty much never see any enemies either so easy money.

Anyone else have the game basically become unplayable after this patch? I went from running it maxxxxed out at 120FPS or more, to barely getting 10fps sitting in a station with things dialed all the way down.

Is there a big downside to choosing mining laser turrets over particle laser turrets? The loss of damage and range is painful, but it seems like the massively better shield damage and better reload/charge times might make up for it.

Mining lasers get increased range as well as damage with higher marks, so the inferior range is eventually negated.

Pulse turrets with turret tracking will just melt most fighter if you keep them up to date. They also scale very very well with more turret slots

They are pretty goddam brutal. I had one in a turret slot for a long time and it always carried its weight. Paid itself off too thanks to tachyon salt and a few blockaded planets.

Replaced it though, as a Mark 3 veridian laser is a nice upgrade.

Just for shits and giggles I replace all my turrets with scatter guns. I then flew into the middle of a mission with about a hundred or so fighters. Maybe less but goddamn there were a lot of them. They barely scratched me as I cleared the skies with a hail of lead.

Just got a Struville finally, and it is pretty sweet, a nice improvement over the Icarus (which was also awesome and I highly recommend, even with the side turrets).

Currently got it fitted with neutron beam broadsides, a pair of mining lasers (one top, one bottom) set to anti-fighter, an Ion Gun set to capitals only, and a pair of pulse guns set to whatever. Tearing poo poo up with it.

With I could find this fancy viridian lasers people are mentioning. The only "Special" gun I've found was a Mk2 Korian(Murian? can't remember) bolt cannon.

So uh... I took a delivery mission. It turned out to be the same destination as the next story mission to talk to researcher (still first sector).

A zillion loving capitol ships are around the loving place now. I was ducking in and out of the station for repairs while wittling them down until the largest one was basically camping where I'd spawn out of. Then it made me pick up nuts and bolt instead of dock, then it let me dock barely before I die. I repair, leave.... and I explode instantly.

Hell of a way to have your first death, yeeeesh. What the gently caress happened? I never got intercepted on the delivery trip itself, what the gently caress did it do spawn every single enemy capitol ship it forgot to send after me along the way in front of the place?

EDIT: The real hell of it was I was winning (if incurring multiple repair bills) despite being just in the second light ship vs at least 7 enemy ships plus fighters, until they resorted to spawn camping :v:

Edit Two: Oh the merchant guild has a crime wave status and now trying to leave is basically suicide because I got a dozen fighters and a few missile corvettes 10 feet from where it spits you out without refilling your deflectors or boosters welp :v:

I'm guessing random chance had it that the station went to war right about when you decided to go there. If you pull up your galaxy map and hover over the station you should see any special events about it. Or maybe had (i think?) an embargo. You wait a bit they clear out and resolve itself. If the station is at war you should see a treaty ship flying from somewhere to that station, once it gets there its over. Unless something were to happen to it...

The Polaris is the next ship to get if you want to keep going up the line and keep some maneuverability, turret slot is also pretty good, the only down side weapon wise is the secondary bands are all stomach mounted, not very good for defensive secondaries where they will hit nothing

Anyone have guild drop mission return points just be mysteriously gone when you try to finish them?

Has anyone figured out what the type of stations actually effect for trade? Like I figured out scientific stations normally buy live organs at high prices and stuff but there is like 5 descriptors on each station it would be neat to know what half of that actually meant so I can make informed decisions instead of just flying around like a retard praying they will buy my stuff at system average or higher.

Delivery missions spawn blockades as you may have noticed, culminating in surrounding the station with hostiles you aren't necessarily meant to deal with beyond blowing past on your way in and out. Like the whole appeal of corvettes and frigates is you can decide "nope, don't care" and just ignore stuff.

Xtanstic posted:

It sounds like the intended feature that spawns you further away from the station if you are touching or nearly touching a station. I was ready to recommend to everybody to just dock every time by autodocking by crashing right into a station, but that spawned my fighter buddy in a planet and instakilled him once.

Lurking. Always lurking.
That component that lets your deflector recharge your shields by absorbing explosions? Works really well with those massive explosions when a capship goes down. Also great with torpedoes.

Well enough that I'm actually recommending going away from flak once you have it. EMP flak is possible vs. fighters (or EMP nova, once it gets patched back to working); otherwise... starting to wonder about the viability of mines for a fast ship.

I'M HUGE!
I finally left the first system about 10 hours into the game. The mission payouts are much better now.

I upgraded from the Merchant Guild light hauler to a Barracuda, and it is SO much better. Slightly better firepower and so maneuverable that it's easy to swing around to expose different shield zones without letting up your assault for a second. With weapon and shield upgrades I think it'll last me for a while.

I also tried a bit of piracy for the first time. I saw a map marker called "Treasure Ship" and took it down, along with a few gunship escorts. It dropped a ton of Alien Artifacts, and the only penalty was a slight hit to my Merchant Guild faction. Score!

I love this game.

Seems like they've (intentionally or not) doubled the firerate on all turrets. Laser turrets overheat much faster but don't get any benefits while projectile guns like pulse turrets are incredibly powerful now.

The Barracuda is super sleek, but you should grab the Sturville. Roughly the same maneuverability, with 2 more broadside guns, at the cost of one component slot

Yeah, I started playing last night and pulse turrets were okay, but now they murder.

I also overheat on mining laser mk1 right before I manage to blow up a big asteroid, and it feels like a really weird design oversight, so the fire rate change might be unintentional.
