What do they mean with tweaked barrel spawns? Is it no longer possible to do BP legit by rushing through it quickly?

There was another exploit that worked on most of the levels, let me see if it's still working.

e: nope. Nice.

As it's fixed, what was it?

They're going to continue to stick a limited number of fingers into an endless number of leaky holes until they address the root cause of this behavior.

If their playerbase perceives running the quickest missions with the easiest exploits as the 'best' way to be rewarded, they will do so.

And yes, this type of behavior is loving retarded, but it's also unfortunately extremely widespread.

In any system that involves loot or rewards you are going to have people trying to game the system and/or work out the most efficient path to loot and do nothing but that. They can try to minimize this in various ways but there will always be those types of people, and personally I'd rather not have devs changing the way the game works because of people like that. Spergs are gonna sperg no matter what.

To be fair I agree that the loot system isn't close to perfect, but from everything the devs have been saying it seems like they will be adjusting or modifying it at some point, if only to do something with oranges and make room for red weapons. The devs have also been very active so far, I'm looking forward to seeing what they will come up with down the road.

Yesterday evening I've met a random guy that was really competent, for once. He was also a supporter of "please no exploits, they're boring".

We've managed to run almost all the maps on Hard (we skipped BP, Well, White Rat and W&C), getting 3 tomes and 1/2 grims every time they were available and wiping ONCE (on Horn, of all maps). The remaining 2 slots were other random rotating pubbies as well. Now I have mostly blues in every slot and I've even broke the trinket curse (got a green 10% heal myself on healing others one). It's the first time I've actually added someone as a Steam friend after a game.

On the other hand, 2 days ago I've ran 2 games with pubbies and we've managed to get wiped twice on Smugglers Normal

The exploit that broke the rat's pathing and made them freeze in place meant that most of the map was a "safe zone". You had to blow up a barrel that spawned outside of it, and wait for it to respawn somewhere else, otherwise the rats would start behaving competently and you'd die horribly on cataclysm.

I'm going to guess that blowing up the barrel makes it spawn in the same place, so you can't teleport barrels around. Not that it matters much if they fixed the entire pathing thing, but whatever.

It was a bug with bright wizard pushing enemies into some kinds of geometry that broke the AI for the rest of the map. Why bright wizard? I dunno, :iiam:

The exploiting isn't caused by the loot system. Even if the loot was not random and you could pick from one item on a list that was created depending on how well you did, people would still exploit because it is easier and guarantees loot.

It's a player problem, not a problem with the system. If loot is all people play for then they will find a way to get it as fast and easily as possible. Just laugh at anyone that tries to exploit then boot em from the group.

I ran forward with my sword ready just to be immediately pounced by a gutter runner, which threw all 3 companions clear into the abyss or hanging on to the edge. 3 tome 2 grimoire run over.

Speaking of, when I was doing BP runs, I found if you stall at the start and no one jumps down for a bit the game throws specials at you. A lot of specials. It started out as 1 rat gunner after another, then it turned to two at a time, then a gas rat joins in. Before you knew it we were fighting off a horde of specials.

It was pretty fun.

If you can see a Gutter Runner from far away (IE: plaza in Horn), you can just wait for it to pounce towards you and blast it to pieces with an handgun/crossbow/staff. It will interrupt his jump (and kill him, at lower difficulties); it's quite easy to hit him this way, if you're not in the middle of an ambush, cause it will always pounce in a straight line.

What's weird is that last night, I ran BP with two different pub groups (on hard) who were doing it legit. The one group that had two of them that seemed to know each other were using it as a benchmark for "is this random dude going to be a dumbass shithead" before launching into a longer campaign. It was a generally a fun, chill time, and while I didn't get an orange, I'm okay with that.

Pubs aren't always the terrible wasteland people here make it, and I'm getting more competitive in this game as I get better.

e: Also did get kicked from a pub group for dying on the finale of Wizard Tower after I'd res'd everyone (except the BW who was kicking rear end) in the finale at least once and used my medkit on the soldier who had a blunderbuss and had died several times before, so. Sometimes they are dumbshits, though at that point I was also starting to play badly.

To break away from jokes for a second, pubbies aren't bad, they are just very inconsistent. It helps that VOIP has been improved, as well as the people in the high levels of difficulty generally being more competent than Scrubs McPubbie in normal. There isn't anything wrong with doing a quick pub match, you are just rolling the dice with who you get.

As they say, the only difference between a pubbie and a goon is :10bux:
