I thought it was a good joke, not because of ghostbusters, but because I could imagine a bunch of snooty people with monocles and awesome mustaches going "Fuh-SHAW!" at being done in by a performer and his trolling antics.

It rivals the amount of people who don't remember the aliens from The Life Of Brian (a scene which marries literal and metaphorical Deus Ex Machina better than any other in cinematic history)

I immediately knew what scene it was and had a good laugh. Maybe you should watch good movies more frequently? Pretty sure Ghostbusters is on tv almost every single day.

I think you can skip the first two stages this way. Good luck. I for one am still waiting for step two, which is sex party and dogs. Not at the same time. That would be weird.

Does this work in reverse? Like let's say I'm a pretty entertaining dog, do I get to be part of a homo sex party?

Jokes aren't as funny when you have to explain them but that one strikes me as pretty obtuse. I watched Ghostbusters dozens of times as a kid and didn't get it until pretty recently. Peter is playing a half assed version of the spooky ghost non-diegetic music. So far as I know, it is the only time the movie breaks the 4th wall, so it is a a little out of place. Maybe I was dumb for not getting it.
