i think a lot of people still look down on keyboard controls because of how prevalent ghosting was in keyboards in the past

it's ok. feels much better than my logitech controller, but that one can switch between direct input and xinput so i never had to worry about using joy2key for most older games and emulators. WiiU Pro controllers feel the best overall imo but i don't know how much of a difference it makes that the triggers aren't analog if you're not using it for racing games.

Controller will always be preferable, but for poorgamers it's entirely doable with keyboard. I think people exaggerate Phantoon a bit, he's not really that hard even if you fall for his dirty super missile trick

I think the only sequence breaking I ever do is the really basic stuff like getting stuff early via wall/bomb jumping, the other tricks are way beyond my skills. poo poo, now I really want to play some Metroid. I think I'll start with Zero Mission.

Return of Samus is cool because it's stuck in a transfer stage between the NES original and the SNES masterpiece. It has that complete lack of player guidance but gains some of the interesting power ups. Metroid 2 is actually the first one to have the Spider Ball, which could be used on any wall. I think this one gets passed over a lot and it never got the Zero mission treatment. You can currently by this on the Nintendo eshop

I love Aria of Sorrow and I am sure I will like SotN someday but the RPG item and equipment management part always makes me go, "ugh ok, I don't want to sort through menus right now and figure this out, I'll continue this later" and I never do. Like as a whole it's obvious that there is a ton of game there but it's daunting to try to get into all of it. If that makes any sense.

The same sort of happened to me because I played the others first. It really shows that it was the first one of its kind since the whole rpg-ish part isn't really too fleshed out yet. I still powered through it because I loved the graphics and music (and the goofy sounds and voice of course) and it's still an amazing experience. If some mod rebalanced some of its flaws it could be basically a perfect game.

I recently played through mp1 again and went to try 2 for the first time and didn't really enjoy it. It's good and all but after 1 it feels like a letdown. It just seems a lot more linear and the atmosphere isn't quite as good. Also I feel it looks worse in many ways from a design point of view

I like 3 more than 2 because they tried something somewhat different and the control scheme + heavier focus on action was neat.

very few games hold a candle 2 the holy grail of gaming that is MP1. MP2 is good but full of weird poo poo like dumbass backtracking segments, and while the music is really good the areas are devoid of life or anything interesting until like the last 30% of the game when you get to the ghost in the shell cyberpunk city metroid prime 3 just loving nags you constantly with story and tutorial poo poo, and also has a pretty bizarre backtracking quest

Prime 2 is second only to Super for me. I love everything about it, especially the focus on awesome grueling boss battles. I think it's the pinnacle of the series in terms of boss fights. All of the main area bosses are incredible, and the final bosses are masterpieces.
