As for soothing vs. boring, I found it soothing--but then, I find watching any LP to be oddly soothing for some reason. You know, I actually have the original PSone version of Blood Omen, but I haven't ever got more than half an hour into it. I should remedy that one of these days. (Hell, thinking about it, I own every LoK game. PC versions of BO2-Defiance, plus PSone BO and PS2 Defiance, and I think the latter is the only one I've ever actually finished.)

Beat Blood Omen, got half-way through Soul Reaver 1 (it's the Morrowind of the series, honestly, in terms of "this is awesome, but where the gently caress do I go now?", beat Soul Reaver 2, got to a certain point in Blood Omen 2 where I just said "gently caress this game forever", and beat Defiance. BO1 will forever be my favorite because, as great as some of his lines in later games are (the edge of the coin conversation, oh my god) Simon Templeman's delivery in this game is so incredibly over the top that I have to smile everytime he says something.

I just checked and the Oracle's cave has no background music at all (also, holy crap, my commentary there is almost like a lecture in that I'm much further away from the microphone than now and I'm borderline screaming as a result) Maybe that's why it's so insanely boring and tedious

I feel like we've seen The Dollmaker before that flashback/senior moment the king had. The videos were definitely relaxing to me as well. Possibly the music, possibly the screams, possibly the improved gameplay. Also, I really miss Tony Jay now. Zushio fucked around with this message at 09:00 on Oct 29, 2015 |

On an unrelated note, I have two more updates cooked, and then I'll be through all of the footage that I had prerecorded in August before moving. Now I am experiencing techincal issues due to using a laptop with an rear end aspect ratio which screws with the game's resolution and makes the game only play with screen resolution much lower than before (attempts to change it back to 640x480 result in the game crashing, even when I reinstall everything). So if the game begins to look like rear end beginning with 23, then it means that I have failed to fix the problem EDIT: took me an hour and a half that I wanted to spend doing the recording, but I fixed it. More EDIT: we all miss Tony Jay ._. The feels will hit in every LoK nutri_void fucked around with this message at 16:46 on Oct 29, 2015 |

It's been a long while since I played, but with all the gore the Soul Reaver is spraying every time you kill something, could you equip the Flesh Armor, and it will absorb all that blood automatically, keeping your health topped up? Not a good idea when there are green-blooded monsters around, but in Stahlberg, it should have been just fine. Also, this was around the time when I started losing track of who's who and what's what, so I'm hoping watching your play through will help me understand what's all going on. I just remember being confused a lot in the end game. Edit: VV Well, that's unfortunate. It's like they were trying not to make the Soul Reaver too powerful, and instead made it largely useless. Can't cast spells while holding it, it uses up your magic to kill with it, and does poo poo damage if you don't have magic, and the Flesh Armor can't absorb the blood it's filling the air with. I think I hardly used it back when I played, just because it seemed to be more of a liability than an asset. Wa11y fucked around with this message at 23:40 on Oct 29, 2015 |

Just launched the game to try that, and it doesn't work, unfortunately: everything just dies without supplying Kain with blood Yes, the lategame is confusing, that's due to the weird configuration of cutscenes and the story itself becoming convoluted

Kain realizes the Nemesis has won. -> last-ditch effort he uses the time streaming device -> we are now in the past, before the nemesis gets his armies together. IIRC we are still after Ariel gets murdered and the pillars get corrupted/ go insane. Some voice over/cutscene appears to be missing but IIRC this is how it's supposed to go: Kain is moved 50 years back, whereas Ariels's murder happened 30 years before the start of BO (at least I hope I'm not screwing this up) as established in later games. Blood Omen doesn't identify whether it's before or after Ariel's murder. However, it's irrelevant, as for this specific part only the fact that Kain can now prevent the Nemesis from becoming the Nemesis is is important nutri_void fucked around with this message at 20:31 on Oct 31, 2015 |

This is a weird part of the plot for me, because it's further than I got when I played Blood Omen, concerns events that aren't really seen later in the series, and yet is kind of pivotally important to the overall plot. I'm looking forward to seeing it unfold, since all I did before was read a plot summary and infer things from SR2.

Yeah, even after this game is done we still can't really talk about poo poo. There's big things that we can't really discuss until at least the end of SR2. And immediately after that BO2 has what is in my opinion the biggest WTF plot point in the series. I really, really hate that plot point.

I only just this week watched the BO2 storyline, and while it sort of smoothed out one of the plot points it's basically totally unnecessary and causes more problems than it solves. It's definitely more of a Blood Omen game than a Soul Reaver, so it fits the series's zany naming conventions I guess.
