Yeah, I'm glad this thread pulled up from the nosedive of page 1. Contribution: loving everything on modern cars. Look at our engine bay, isn't it pretty! Too bad it takes 5 loving hours to replace a headlight

Kremlin Kremlin posted:hey this isn't the volume dial *dies* I had a car accident a few months ago and this car was the one I had as a rental during repairs. The parking brake takes a bit of figuring out, but the transmission can't be changed unless the car is stopped and your foot is on the brake. Otherwise it just spins freely. While I didn't care for the design (it's too easy to spin it into L or N without noticing), it doesn't seem to be too far removed from this: As far as bad design, I love my phone, but it has one major design flaw. This is the phone: The curved edge, while completely pointless, is sort of neat looking. However, since it's a jumbo-sized phone, if you have any sort of list on the screen (texts, songs, etc), your fingers are constantly opening up unwanted emails or texts or changing what song you're listening to, as it's impossible to hold in one hand without having at least one finger on the curved part of the screen. I really don't know why the curved part has any touchscreen capabilities, as I can't see what you would be doing that would involve touching that minute strip of screen real estate.

My employer built video conferencing software with a layout so "tall" that it couldn't fit both the video component and a built-in chat room onto the screen at the same time, you had to pick one or the other. Want to type something to a coworker? Can't see what's going on. Watching the video feed? Can't see what's being said in the chat. Oh yea and we had another module to let employers build job requisitions in a simple* four step** wizard. * Not simple. ** Actually six steps, but we didn't count the steps labeled "A" and "B" at all in advertising it.

Turns out when you're logged in to gmail on your work computer, Google remembers what you've searched for on your Android phone and includes it in the little drop down menu. Thanks Google, great idea.

Thanks Google, great idea. Yeah, the way Google handles your Google account across devices leaves a lot to be desired. It also populates your "contacts" in your phone with a shitload of just email addresses and things like that, including a bunch of the gibberish craigslist emails you wind up with if you buy/sell anything through that site. I can delete them, but haven't set aside the time to sit down and delete contacts one by one. I just love scrolling through dozens of "32bcdda436ar9@craigslist.org" to find a phone number.

Also to be fair it's probably on purpose to prevent people from just keeping it plugged in all the time and wrecking the battery life.

Vitalis Jackson posted:I concur with the OP; the design commonly used to plug wash basin drains has flaws. The best design is a rubber stopper with a chain. Dear Vitalis Thank you for your support. I have a plug on a chain in my bathroom to use in addition to/instead of the rod/lever plug. The plugs which are fixed but swivel vertically into open also work well. And yes, doors with no handles indicating PUSH are good. Doors with handles that require pushing totally miss the point of that sensible convention. Touchscreen phone goon, you have my sympathy. What the gently caress were they thinking! Oh, I know! "This looks really cool!" Marketing leading design.

Thanks Google, great idea. Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games. Youtube now remembers every single stupid video you've ever watched across all devices and continually suggests them. Read that funny burd thread and watched dozens of funny burd videos? Hope you enjoy looking like a bird crazy to anyone who uses your phone or a pc your google account is signed into. So, this is the way I found out junjou romantica season 3 is out. Don't google junjou romantica trust me. It's an anime that aatrek would like. My last job which ended a few days ago had an open bay type setup that they slotted us db janitors into. Everyone was used to just using whatever terminal was open. We also spent a lot of the day waiting for poo poo and fan to meet, and while we did so we'd gently caress around on the internet. I sat down after lunch to a screen that was opened to youtube. Someone had been watching some failarmy videos. Whatever. I hit back and get to a youtube search index that they forgot to sign out of and it was all RECOMMENDED FOR YOU: junjou romantica season3 episodes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8.... Etc with a giant WATCHED over each and every one of them. LOL. I knew who had been there too. I am not a massive dick however so I didnt spill the beans on them. Besides when this happened I already had a better job lined up and was just looking forward to getting the gently caress outta there. But still, I Saw. I Know.

Four way stop signs that look like regular stop signs. Which is almost all four way stop signs. Why put some sort of label on them, when everyone can just . . . notice that a car is stopping on the street, and then, to make sure it's not just randomly stopping for no reason, look for a telltale unpainted side of a metal octagon at an oblique angle. Yes, let's do that.
