The only things left in the house until Thursday are canned pickles from like five years ago (soft, but still tasty), 8 pounds of pinto beans, and a pack of linguini noodles. Tonight, it will be beans.

Last night I made tex-mex style beans by using some frozen bacon grease as substitute for meat flavor, some cayenne and chili pepper seasoning, and a touch of salt with half a chopped onion. Tonight I'm thinking I'll fry up the other half of the chopped onion, and maybe do a sweet/sour mix? I have a lot of condiments.

Man I usually cope with/deflect my own depression by trying to cheer other people up, but most of my friends right now are in such deep funks that all I can really do is let them stew, and it's leaving me alone with my own sadbrain stuff. Making someone else smile is the only thing that really makes ME happy anymore, so it's even harder when I can't do that.

First it was Das Volk. Then me. And now Bondurant is making the switch: I dunno how I feel about this -- a TA 2.0 is way more car than a Grand Sport. It's a really awesome car, but maybe takes it beyond what's a good learning tool.

Interesting. Wonder if they'll firesale the GM vehicles like they did the old Bondostangs... except it seemed to me like the Camaros are a lot more factory (including full interiors) than the orange SN95s they had when I was a kid. I'll also echo the "a lot of car" aspect. It really seems like they might benefit from having something lower power / lower weight that's still a street car, and a few of the instructors when I was there last year agreed. Even with all of the weight of a fifth gen Camaro or a LY Challenger, 400+HP is a lot of power for new track drivers.

Either eBay or Bourbon is my enemy. I'm not sure which yet. I've been trying new Bourbons and several days later, a new package of rare JDM parts seems to appear for my Rx-7. I can't be mad at my drunk-self, because they're usually killer deals on rare parts. But god drat my bank account hurts, both from the Bourbon but more so the parts.

The sun will come out to say hi, then take a poo poo on you, then disappear for a bit, then it'll finally break through the clouds and say "j/k about making GBS threads on you". Myself, my father, and my stepfather all tend to internalize. I'm definitely the most emotional out of all of us, with my stepfather being the most distant - but I still bottle everything up unless I'm drunk or really angry, or until I basically explode and take it out on someone. It sucks, but I was raised in a "boys don't cry or show feelings" way. CharlesM posted:What's the best way to run Android on a PC? I want to play Fallout Shelter. Alternatively, run it in iOS but I don't know if that's possible on PC? I can't say I've tried personally, but the Android SDK allows you to run apps on a PC. No idea how well it works with APKs though, it's more meant for raw code. Just from looking through Google results, it looks like Bluestacks is actually aimed at people trying to run games without using their phone/tablet. Can't vouch for it since I've never tried it; I usually just use my Chromecast if I want to see Android stuff on a TV (Android 5.1, maybe 5.0 as well, has built-in screen casting). If you're just trying to get an Android game onto a big monitor, an Android device running Android 5.x or 6.0, plus a $35 Chromecast, will do it (a USB OTG cable will let you add a keyboard/mouse, if they're not bluetooth). If you don't have an Android device, uh... the 2014 Moto X is dirt cheap, and still pretty drat respectable in terms of power and usability? randomidiot fucked around with this message at 09:57 on Nov 4, 2015 |

Damnit. Verizon is now offering 50/50 internet + top end cable TV for about what I'm paying now (including taxes, fees, equipment, etc). I have 200/20 internet now, plus the same top tier TV package (which somehow doesn't include channels like H2). I love the 200mbit download speed (when I can actually use it, which is usually only on totally legal non-copyrighted TV documentary torrents), but the 20mbit upload loving blows. And if I so much as sneeze near any coax, the internet goes out for half an hour (my power and SNR levels are fantastic, so I doubt it's on my side). Whereas with Verizon FiOS, I had two outages in 3 years, over the same coax inside the house. Still have the fiber terminal... it's tempting.

My condolences LaF. I can at least try and help on the car front. How did you do the compression test? Warm engine, all plugs out, and the throttle wide open? If the car runs good and has good power, it's probably fine. Most cheap compression testers are all over the place. Since the numbers are pretty consistent, I would run it as is. LOL just reread the results. Seems like it might be hosed. mafoose fucked around with this message at 11:41 on Nov 4, 2015 |

Thankyou This probably really belongs in my thread, but whatever It was done by a mechanic that a friend recommended, a subaru specialist who has been working on them for 25 years, so I presume he did it correctly (ie as you described, which is how the FSM says to do it). The problem I gave it to him to diagnose is that it doesn't run well or have good power https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcnvfGfWqHY The tractor sound you hear is coming from the cylinder that tested at 130 (it's a much deeper sound in person, and it's definitely not the timing belt or any of the tensioners, that was the first thing he checked). Mechanic reckons it's the valves as it fails a leakdown test also, though I don't have details on that.

Welp, my mentor at work just dropped a bomb on me. He's tendering his resignation and moving to California to work for an electric motorcycle company. I'll be the sole CMM guy for the entire shop, and the only person that knows PC-DMIS. I'm frightened and excited at the same time. I really hope this comes with a bump in pay. I know I'll be beating my head against the granite for years figuring out all the stuff that he knew. He taught me everything I know, but not everything he knew. I'm like this right now: This means I'll be in charge of the CMM dept at the new combined shop with four large CMMs since the guys over there are inspectors, not really dedicated CMM guys. Sure am glad I didn't take on a part time job, because I'm likely working 65's again now.

Dad Chat: I still vividly remember losing my Dad just over 2 years ago. I kinda shut down for a long while. It's still really hard, I still haven't cleaned out the inside of the pickup he used as his daily. Lighter, but still kinda sad news, I priced out new wheels/tires for my 89 LTD Crown Vic. $532.40 from tire rack--and that is for cheap steelies and cheap all seasons (fusion tires). I really don't want to spend that much for wheels/tires on a car that I'm going to sell. But it does need new wheels an tires (rims have rusted through, and the tires were brand new in 97). Any suggestions for cheaper sites? I've been checking CL for weeks and haven't seen anything
