I'm thinking Ranger since pet and bow always seem like a decent option for a more casual player doing world events. Plus, there is always the pokemon effect of gotta catch them all for pets. I don't play ranger, so I don't know how they've been in the new content.

She is gonna get frustrated by the difficulty spike, poo poo I'm frustrated by it and I've been playing the game for 3 years. :v:

That said, yea Ranger is a great class for a more casual player, guess a high toughness pet so the enemies tend to go for it and have at it.

Only thing you need to do to unlock Reaper is to train everything else in the class, which you will be able to do with all the hero points you earn when you reach level 80.

I'm quite possibly the only Reaper using this trait, and I can't tell if this is a buff or nerf or just a simplification. The base damage used to be 194 (290 if below 50% health) at level 80. The extra condi damage multiplier is nice though, that brings it up to +30 damage for every 100 condition damage -- that's nearly double the damage from burning, though Chill doesn't stack so whatever.

I never really bothered going for Black Lion Claim Ticket stuff from the chests. How rare is it to get a scrap? Is it sort of a "please don't buy gems to try to get ticket scraps" kind of situation?

I really want some of those Glittering weapons (less than I used to, now that I've seen the Ley Guard's Revolver, but I still need a nice Mesmer-y greatsword). The shield is nice, too.

I am also definitely going to get the Exalted glider skin because I have some gems sitting around anyway :v:

What parts didn't you like? It's the same endgame as before. Dungeons, fractals, WvW, sPvP, legendaries/ascended gear getting, pretty princess, map completion, etc. The only new part is that raids are coming and we don't know how good those will be yet since they're not out.

I think the "no trinity" thing messed with me a fair bit...but it might just have been how broken and buggy some dungeons were at the time. I did enjoy the overall lvling experience and running around and exploring poo poo for no other reason than "I am gonna climb that loving mountain over there". What's fractals though?

Another vote for Minion Master necro with or without reaper when you hit 80. Hands down, the easiest thing to play and still do well, you get two life bars, and even if you're not paying the most attention to what to kill your minions keep hitting/gaining you life.
It was night and day getting into HoT areas as my engie and barely being able to survive swarms of stuff vs my necro being in a 'rough spot' if I had to resummon a minion I didn't self-destruct.

Yeah, Reaper owns. It's still not amazing DPS or anything but it is exceptionally effective at overworld content and most importantly, it's fun to play. That said, with the way high level Fractals are going it's entirely possible Dhuumfire Viper/Sinister Reapers will actually work quite well because they do have very good condi damage.

Speaking of condi damage and the change to the chill damage trait, I briefly looked at it in game before I left for work and it looks like it's an overall buff if you're condi (795 on the tooltip vs 850 before but half the time it was doing 450 so that's a nice net gain) and a nerf if you're power (who were using it in the non shroud builds).

I've been trying some of the 10vs10 pvp (why do some servers let 20 people join but only 5vs5? Stupid) and it's nice that I can get a full dungeon set after a week or so of maybe an hour a day playing, but Is anet going to balance it at all? Win trading is encouraged but the mechanics of switching teams via the volunteer balancing are clunky and also eliminate any fun of pvp and turn it into a purely annoying grind you're trudging through, instead of doing a fun activity with a nice reward after a while. And if I go on a serious server, my lv60 mesmer gets killed in about 2 seconds by guys with legendaries and the elite specs. It almost makes me want to just do the dungeons, but you have to run the same one so many times for a full gearset.

Don't play hot join (the server listing thing you're talking about). Even if you lose an unranked arena game you'll get the same points as winning hot join and if you win you get 3x as many.

Gear/level is normalised in sPvP so everyone is on the same footing so you being level 60 doesn't make a difference in the slightest and if you have Heart of Thorns you also have access to your elite spec (in the third trait line).

I'd suggest you go and take a look at the Conquest (point capture 5v5) and Stronghold (MOBA-lite) sections of Metabattle and see if you can find a build that'll suit how you want to play your Mesmer and then make sure you set up all your traits/skills/runes/sigils/amulets in the PvP Build window (icon at the top of the screen in the middle).

I wonder if the 64x client would improve FPS performance on my laptop. With everything on Low, I get ~25-30 right now.

Edit: RE sPVP. Yeah don't do hotjoin, it sucks. Unranked is your best bet, plus you get all the specs unlocked in Heart Of The Mists. I spend a lot of time in there, and generally have a lot of fun even solo queuing.

The move to 64-bit won't necessarily help your performance. Especially on a laptop. What it does is increase the amount of RAM available to the client. This could have the effect of improving some areas of performance as it can store more pieces of the game client in memory at a given time. But, it might also do nothing at all for you.

At the very least it should help with crash issues, as the client's memory leak will have to fill up 8/16/more GB of memory now before crashing as opposed to 2-4 before.
