Any suggestions on a hotel to set up home base for 10+ guys doing a bachelor party in May? Right now everyone is throwing ideas out and it seems like there are so many options that I'd like to help narrow it down to a few hotels. Our hopes are to get one big suite for the bachelor and then a few basic rooms for everyone else. We would like to do a pool party and will definitely be doing nightclubs. Ideas being thrown out now seem to be Cosmo and Venetian but none of us are Vegas regulars so all we really have is word of mouth and internet research. Obviously thanks for any help!

The suite option at Cosmo is dope. Hope you've got plenty of cash and that budget is no issue, but they're niiiiiice. They're basic rooms are fine too, albeit maybe even a bit overpriced. Get something with a balcony. Absolutely worth the extra cash / $20 trick. I also really like Cosmo's regular (Bamboo) pool, mostly because if you're not an rear end in a top hat the service / drink staff will treat you really well. :)

Never been in a suite proper at Venetian, but did one of their rooms (with the 2 queens and a pull out wrap around couch) that actually can sleep 4 people with everyone having a bed/couch. If you're a bit more strapped for cash, this is a fine option too.

When in May? Memorial Day Weekend bring your checkbook and mortgage your house.

Wraparound terrace suite at the Cosmo is the perfect room for the bachelor +1 guest in the living room and a central party room. Cosmo Bungalows are the ultimate party rooms if you're not worried about money.

We are doing the first weekend in May.

My problem with the Cosmo is although it looks extremely nice, I feel like we could find a different hotel with clubs, pool parties, nice rooms and a suite; for a better price leaving more to spend on other things. I've also told the best man about your website Jay but as of right now he's trying to figure it all out himself. Any other hotels I can push him towards that you would recommend?

Ehhhh for what you want, maybe MGM Grand, maybe Aria. But those are unlikely to be much cheaper.

What's a good date restaurant? I don't have an upper limit on budget for food, but I also don't want to wear a suit. This will be possibly Sunday night (the 15th Nov). Nothing is set in stone if we are going to go or not, just curious.

Molecular type stuff would be cool or just good as gently caress food. I've been to most of the places in the Venetian/Palazzo complex

I really liked Bazaar Meat. It's a little dark but no suit required and has some molecular gastronomy stuff and isn't at a LVSC property.

Carbone is probably my new favorite restaurant. Twist is up your alley, Guy Savoy, L'Atelier De Joel Robuchon, and é by Jose Andres, maybe Sage I guess. And Rose Rabbit Lie?

There's this Mexican place I read about a while ago - they serve these huge plates of meat (or they're more like trays of meat). Its somewhere off strip and kind of hole-in-the-wallish. Does anyone know what/where I'm talking about?

We were supposed to go to Rose Rabbit Lie but got sidetracked at the Mandarin Bar. That place is pretty awesome.

Did the zipline down Fremont. El Cortez wasn't horrible. Therapy (Fremont St.) has really good food.

All in all a good trip. Thanks for the suggestions and pointers!

I'm looking at maybe heading out at the end of February for an event, but I'm curious as to how difficult it is to get to Sam's Town from the strip. Is there even public transit easily accessible or would I have to take a cab?

I didn't realize how cheap the rentals were, but after just looking at that site you posted I do think it's the way to go. Plus I can head out for a day trip. Looks like there's lots of cool stuff within driving distance. I'll definitely be using your site as well because it's giving me even better deals than Hotels.com secret prices.

I feel like renting a car in Vegas is more optimal than most cities as long as you're not partying the whole time. They're cheap, parking is free and there's tons of it and you give yourself the opportunity to get off the strip. Glad I could save you some money and be of some help.

Just re-iterating that the "dumpy" places on the main part of the strip really aren't that bad. I've stayed at Harrah's the last few times because it's cheap, has a great location, and when I'm grinding poker 12+ hours a day, I really just want a spot to rest my head. The beds are comfy and it's clean; think "nice, but a little old Hampton Inn" and you'd be about right. The problem is that it isn't elegant in the slightest, and most folks go to Vegas to get that elegant, high-roller feel, not staying at the Holiday Inn.

I'll be heading to Vegas for my usual, pre-Christmas trip, and will probably mix it up a bit and stay at the Flamingo. Supposedly the newer rooms are pretty nice, and the prices are still very reasonable. I'm enjoying all the food recommendations in the thread so far; if anyone else wants to throw out some slightly-off-the-strip, mid-priced restaurants, or even tasty dives, I'd love to hear about them. I'm also thinking about doing some hiking and checking out some shows, so I'll take any recommendations there. EDIT: So far I've just seen Penn and Teller and Absinthe. Are there any other universally well-regarded shows? Blue Man Group?

I kinda want to see Blue Man Group while I'm there, if only because of all the references in the show Arrested Development.

How are the Cirque shows generally ranked? I gather O is the best and most expensive, but how about Mystere, Ka, etc?

I thought Ka was outstanding and just about even with O. The One was alright because of the music and I felt kind of let down by Love. I think it's because I'm more of fan of the Beatles' harder music rather then the Trippy Hippy stuff the show centers around.

Decided to head to Vegas over Christmas with some people and I'll be staying at the Plaza for the first time (free room + generous free play offer). Curious to see how the show schedules are affected. Also I'll be trying the Centurion Lounge at LAS for the first time (and DFW on my way).

Centurion lounge is awesome. Like actually worth showing up to the airport early just to hang out there awesome. It's dead here over Christmas but restaurants are open

There's a few exceptions - Luxor is kind of an actual dump, and the Linq (or Quad, or Imperial Palace) had absolutely trashed rooms while they were remodeling. So while I'm not sure if there's others, it's certainly possible to find an actual dump on the strip.

Good choice on Flamingo though. As for shows, if you're even a moderate Beatles fan, see Love. It's really good.

Yeah I just did the LGA one for the first time and loved it. I understand the LAS and DFW ones are much bigger, which I'm looking forward to. I arrive in the evening so I'll probably grab dinner and a drink there, and then I'll get to check out the breakfast offerings on my way out a few days later.

I'm also trying to plan out a route for a bike ride (roughly 35 miles, downtown->Clark Co. Wetlands Park->Craig Ranch Reg. Park->downtown) and my god, the medians. So many medians. Even at trail/arterial intersections there are several medians that interrupt a direct crossing. It will definitely make for an interesting ride.

On the plus side I think it's really cool that the transit center has bike rentals, even on holidays, and will do basic tuneup stuff for free

I was in Vegas last month for a convention, and my company had us do something I didn't expect to enjoy so much - a tour of the Zappos office, which is in the old city hall building a few blocks from Fremont street. It was surprisingly fun and interesting, much moreso than you'd think an office tour would be. This is actually in their HR office:

Their corporate structure is really fascinating, and they make the tour a lot of fun. Highly recommended if you're looking for something off the beaten path to do during the morning/day.

From what I hear, there are lots of big fireworks shows and parties. However, lots of people flock to Vegas for New Years, making even crummy hotels ridiculously expensive.

So after my last Vegas trip (Again, thanks Jay) me and a bunch of friends started planning something big. My birthday happens to fall on the anniversary of the moon landing so that was the start of the idea.

It ballooned from there to say the least. 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and now I've got 100 friends and a few dozen more acquaintances all claiming to be willing to chip in 2-4k a piece. How far out is it worth trying to plan a party like that? Friends of friends are starting to write me and want to get in on this moon party. At what point does it cross over from being just a party to something that requires far more professional planning?

Food was Mesa Grill and Carbone for our two dinners. Both great.
