Yeah, the turnaround for the Vikings over the last 6 years has been amazing, going from Favre being the funslinger, Peterson tearing poo poo up,and the Williams Wall combining with Jared Allen to ball all out, all the way through the Ponder Age, when it was terrible poo poo on the field but impressively so, and now we're the best representation of a Midwest football team: boring as oatmeal but still somehow relevant, even though nobody gives a poo poo. FWIW I don't actually expect much anything to happen this year, even if we sneak into the playoffs, but if we continue on this trend (especially contingent on Teddy progressing), next year could be way fun.

Diggs' rise has been really impressive. But maybe some Vikings fans can shed light on what in the sam hill happened to Cordarrelle Patterson?

Raw talent that never developed, and even appears to have backslid quite a bit. I catch rumors that he's basically too dumb to learn the playbook, but that's such a tired accusation I don't know that it holds any merit. He's still tossed in for end arounds and whatnot, but not in any appreciable fashion, especially because that's little predicable when it's the only time he's on the field.

Neither Justin Hunter nor Cordarrelle Patterson were impressive even in college, beyond "I guess they're kinda large and fast?" :effort:

This - the Vikings were drafting a project and a lot of things got in the way of it working out, chief among them was that Patterson just never figured out his route running. I would agree that it wasn't because he was "dumb" but I don't think his effort was there, mainly because of how he spurned Zimmer's offseason plan to aid his development.

And now teams barely kick to him, not to mention he brings out everything because its' his only time to get the ball, so his value to the team has just tanked. I think he'll pop up in some highlight plays for another team that doesn't demand the consistency with routes the that Norv does but he's never going to fully capitalize on his athleticism.

I think this is a problem that quite a few teams have created for themselves by having return "specialists." These dudes are like a batter who swings at every pitch.

It's super frustrating on the Vikings because on punts, we have Marcus Sherels as one of the best returners in the league mainly because he's really loving smart about when to actually attempt a return and finding lanes rather than just trusting his ability to hit max speed in 2 seconds. He's a perfect embodiment of Febreeze's take on the Vikings being steady and boring.
