This is nothing new. As soon as Carson made it clear he does not separate his religious faith from his public life, the Secular-Humanist zealots, who only allow the religion of Secular-Humanism in the public square and run our mass media, took aim. Obama has spent, allegedly, millions of taxpayer dollars sealing his college records. It took over two years to get any information out of Hawaii about Obama's birth certificate--a Constitutional requirement! And, if we are going to split hairs with Carson, then how come no one complained when Obama claimed to have been a "Constitutional law professor" when, in fact, his official title was merely "senior lecturer"? Obama outright lied on this count--Carson did not in his situation. Should we even mention Hillary? We have documented evidence PROVING she lied about Benghazi where four Americans serving their country were murdered. And then there is the issue of actual accomplishments: Carson was one of the top neural surgeons in the world, and Hillary was, well, Hillary (and that's about it). But the media ignores this and focuses on THE CHRISTIAN. It's quite clear: Secular-Humanism is the Official State Religion.

Doesn't his book explicitly say that he got a sponsorship from Gen. Westmoreland? Which part's the lie, that he was offered the sponsorship/nomination/whatever or that he never "technically" applied? mormonpartyboat posted:There's no such thing as a scholarship to a military academy. They're free. Once you hit your third year, you are 'committed' and have to pay back your education if you drop out/get kicked out, and your commitment includes several years of service. Actually, this makes it much clearer. So Westmoreland could not POSSIBLY have "offered" Carson anything UNLESS he'd already applied, but if there's no record of the application, the Westmoreland story is a lie because there'd be no reason to offer a non-applicant admission to West Point. That brings up another aspect of his claims I found strange; he apparently only applied to Yale. Which if true, at the very least, implies a great deal of stupidity. Sure it's considerably harder to get into good schools now than it was back than, but still.

Joementum posted:He's going with "I never applied, but people told me I would have easily gotten in", which given that he ended up going to Yale instead, seems likely. Problem with that is, IIRC, there's only 20 appointments from the referenced category at any one time, which includes ROTC, JROTC, and Honor Schools. Being the top JROTC person in Detroit simply isn't enough to guarantee that you'll take one of the 5 openings on average every year. Not saying he wouldn't have gotten in had he tried, just that it's absolutely not as clear cut as he makes it seem. Alter Ego posted:So Westmoreland could not POSSIBLY have "offered" Carson anything UNLESS he'd already applied, but if there's no record of the application, the Westmoreland story is a lie because there'd be no reason to offer a non-applicant admission to West Point. Westmoreland couldn't have really offered anything concrete to Carson at any step along the process, unless it was literally sitting down and helping Carson fill out the application forms.
