Didn't he fulfill his Hospital contract, and moved on to a major label? And, looking forward to the Sam Binga album that is out on Critical end of this week, big fan of his earlier breaks and bass music stuff as Baobinga (and a few other aliases). And I've heard a few cuts from the new Shogun Audio compilation that is out the end of this week, in to some of the newer artists on it.

Shameless self-promotion here but it seems like the right place for it. If you enjoy the more experimental side of the genre, Detuned Tranmissions have just released a remix album of DAAT's HVAC LP featuring a lot of high quality creatives including ASC, RQ, Overlook, Gremlinz and Justice & Metro (just to mention a few). It's pretty exciting to be associated with these excellent producers!

Also, oS/Jason from DAAT has a great Ph.D Dissertation online about "an ethnographic and technological study of breakbeats in Hardcore, Jungle, and Drum & Bass," lots of good interviews in the appendix.

I'm the other half of DAAT (aka Joe Mnemonic). As for Jason's Thesis, I heartily endorse it as well. It contains vital information to have as a producer (the history and culture of the genre linked to technology and techniques) especially because it gives you a handle on why a sound from a certain period sounds the way it does.

After reading that paper last summer I started looking for a lot of new material to sample, as well as thinking about different ways I could experiment with breaks. Happy to say my sample library has a lot of new material nowadays, and a lot of ways to create new variations on breaks... but that's just one area that I'm trying to pay attention to and develop.

London Elektricity's 6th album called Are We There Yet? is coming out in early November and the first single called Phase Us got released today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6ia0fF1cIc That single isn't really my kind of thing, but some of y'all might like it.

That's loving quality. Yikes and its stupid exclamation mark was a pretty poor album overall (though there were two or three good tracks) so if he's back on a soulful tip that can only be a good thing.

Can't say that I'm entirely psyched about that London Elektricity track as it's very down-tempo with little energy. I want to see a return to form that they had when they produced the albums Billion Dollar Gravy and Power Ballads. Anyway, going to see Noisia and The Upbeats tonight, should be an awesome gig.

gently caress me sideways Exit Records is killing it. First off you have The Binary Collective, which is dBridge, Kid Drama, Joe Seven, and Consequence practically locking themselves in the studio with a ton of hardware and pumping out a concept album that seems like it tells a story. http://exitrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/exit-lp014-the-binary-collective-the-binary-collective For the second absurd collaboration out of the label is Module Eight's "Legacy" LP. This group consists of dBridge, Skeptical, Loxy, Resound and Kid Drama. I'm very excited to get a full listen of these tunes. http://exitrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/exitlp015-module-eight-legacy-lp

Upon hearing the sad and unfortunate news that The Qemists have gone full emo, it reminded me of another drum & bass group that did a similar thing, 17th Boulevard. If you remember those guys, they produced some pretty decent stuff in the late 2000s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvlBWfQ84As I mean, the signs were obviously there, but still. They then proceeded to make an album called C.A.T.H.Y., which was, well, listen for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIj5yg6IB64 I naturally lost track of them after that point, and upon looking them up to see what they're doing these days it appears they pretty much died on their arse after that album. Little warning to The Qemists there.

Module Eight (dBridge, Loxy, Resound, Skeptical, Kid Drama) dropped their Legacy LP last Friday and it's loving mental. Although a supergroup level collaboration like this could easily miss it's mark and sound disjointed, these masters-of-the-trade throw down an impressive array of murderous slices. If you have the appropriate sound system these tracks are guaranteed to belt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idPlCu68TBk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz-VMrmR7xo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIpN_ZrXlLE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwUQN0WrC3g

EDIT: I think there's some irony in the fact that uploading this mix to Soundcloud worked fine, when it was initially flagged/blocked for copyright infringement twice on YouTube. Anyway here's OPERATIONS volume 10. London Elektricity - Tenderless (ft. Emar Dineen) (beatless mix) Tokalosh - Can't Go On (Mos remix) Alix Perez - Losing You Hex & Phentix - San Teodoro Break & Kyo - Simpler Times Muffler - Mountain Streams Technimatic - Secret Smile (ft. Lucy Kitchen) London Elektricity - Singing Ringing Tree Loz Contreras & Macca - One Touch (Technimatic remix) Break - Gave Too Much Bladerunner - The Real Deal (ft. DNA) Schematic - I'll Try Kasper & Satl - Mr. Funky Artificial Intelligence - Fallen (ft. Dawn Wall) Rahmanee - Miss You Lera Lynn - It Only Takes One Shot (Hungry T bootleg) Calibre - Dreamz Dub Kairos - Disappear Random Movement - I'll Tell Ya (That Woman) Was A Be - Carcosa Kije & Jay Mythix - Crisis Aeon Waves - Let Go Was A Be - Switch Ahmad - Reincarnation DJ Hybrid - Dem Try Paragon - Precipice Gerra & Stone - Plates Basement Jaxx - Buffalo (Dub Phizix remix) Stealth - Desert Storm RUN DMT - Scene Queen Gerra & Stone - Dnt U Ratta - Barrelfunk Emperor - Passed Up Rene LaVice - Lights Out (ft. David Boomah) Dimension - Panzer Delta Heavy - Apathy The Prototypes - Hypercube BMotion - Arabia Calyx & TeeBee - Cloud 9 Phace & Mefjus - Bäng Bäng The third upload to YouTube worked, but on clicking 'remove [copyrighted] content' I've found a rather impressive (I'm not even mad, it's amazing) attempt to phase-cancel the infringing track, so just listen to the SC link instead. I listened to that Ivy Lab release you posted, and while some of its tracks are cool, it didn't stand out to me as being anything revolutionary or something that would save drum & bass as a genre or whatever. I know you said BaconCopter posted:I hope you don't care too much about your preconceived notions of what D&B should sound like. I'd absolutely love it if a brand new artist came out (or I found one that's already been releasing stuff recently that I didn't know about) that breathed new life into D&B and caught my ear and made me think the genre was about to have a revival of sorts, but unfortunately I haven't heard anything like that recently. It could be out there, but if it is, I'm not aware of it.

Thank jahova for Autonomic or everything might sound like a Netsky diarrhea glitter fart or the same Metalheadz song thats been remade for 20 years. The irony being this is a cookie-cutter DOA post. D&B is healthier in the mainstream than at any point since the 90s, and healthier in the underground (an oxymoron?) since forever thanks to the Internet, social media, and opportunities for people to make music, whether they've been handed down some bit of kit by their uncle or they've downloaded "epic_sigma_snares.rar". Like and dislike what you want but don't go throwing your weight around expecting a positive response. Rageaholic Monkey posted:But it's not syncing up with what I think D&B should sound like because it's not D&B. I mean, this is a fairly good point too. I've listened to and enjoyed tunes on Exit and the likes in the past but the style (Autonomic, as BC says) is not D&B as much as a departure from it. At the end of the day, I like End Credits by Instra:Mental as much as I like End Credits by Chase & Status; I'm just gonna listen to what I like rather than writing up some wanky diatribe to attempt to "explain" to people why the music I listen to is better than the music they listen to. That's not to say you should stop of course, I always enjoy going on webstores and reading about how a release is meant to be game-changing and revolutionary only to press play and be treated to the same clicks, whirrs and parps as the hundred other releases described in the same fashion.
