I think that 3K list is going to need more finesse than it looks like. The stress only happens out the front arc, and only at range 2.

Get behind them, or out of the range 2 band, and they're just tanky TLTs, which aren't that hard to overcome.

Saw the cool design on the orange PS6 K-wing's card art and it reminded me of a surfboard. Now I want to paint this on it:

but maybe with more waves and turtles.

Intricate linework was never my thing with minis but this would be good practice for something like that.

Yeah, if you watch the guy who beat that specific list he just closed distance fast with Poe, A-Wing and Corran. The 3K list rolled on inferior turret boats though.

I thought they were pretty terrible to be honest. Davy especially. For a guy on the design team he seemed oblivious to a lot of stuff that was happening. I only watched the round of 16 and round of 8 game but his commentary was pretty off the ball. Miscalling Sensor jammer as Palatine (not even pointing out the shuttle had sensor jammers, I assume they have they list in front of them), being completely lost when whisper checks range for intelligence agent, and just totally losing the plot when it comes to calling who's shooting and defending.

They dont always have the exact lists in front of them and they're watching the feed from another room looking at the same bad camera angles we do. Plus im sure the guys exhausted from the amount of stuff hes doing this weekend.

I don't really see that as an excuse though. This is the premiere event run by FFG for whom they work, not local volunteers calling a store championship. If the guys calling don't have the lists, then that smacks of lack of planning, and it was annoying when they lost focus on the game whilst they chit chatted. I just thought it especially damning that Davy flubbed a lot of calls, and beyond that there was very little pertinent observations on what was happening in the game. Contrast it with the Gencon commentary and it's night and day. Just disappointing. The dice tray camera was inspired, but just made it doubly frustrating when they inexplicably cut away from it to the low angle while the players were still rolling dice in the combat phase.

Have you never watched MTG tournament coverage? I wish they hosed up as little as they do on xwing commentary, and had half the features xwing coverage does.

Eh that's the reason why I've never liked these types of lists. This, the 4BZ, the old Biggs walks the dogs were all just piles of good stuff. The Fat Han list actually uses an escort and is quite different in the bait-and-switch play style. These 4-5 ship rebel lists are like the Jund deck in MTG: just a pile of Good Stuff TM that'll get the job done and it tends to be boring.

Fat Han is the absolute pinnacle of boring lists to face dude, no offense. I know it's your absolute favorite, but seriously, it's the Worst Thing. Fat pancakes are terrible and I'd rather have to play a million jousting lists that require the player to actually consider their movement and firing arcs than face 1-2 10+ hit point ships every single match for another year and a half.

Yeah a lot of people complained about it and I do like that they fixed the game with upgrades such that it's no longer dominant. This way it feels more special when I play it since less of the room is.

I think a lot of the reason why I love flying the big ships is that I get to slap more paint on them, even though they're only in various states of completion. I'm actually considering doing linework for this hound's tooth instead and seeing if I can do a neat art nouveau picture on either side. The small ships are so tiny I can only ever do typical NMM and other stuff on them, which is great for practice, but these actively challenge me to paint things on them.

Team Covenant did an interview with Paul, and he listed off the purpose of each ship in the list.

Poe was his Ace
TLT Y-wing was for consistent damage
Stressbot Y-wing was to counter aces
and the Z95 was because he had 12 points left.

His goal was to build a list that had an answer for any other list. I'd say he succeeded admirably.

So I decided I am going to play in baby's first x-wing tournament this weekend.

Any suggestions to tweak this list?

Soontir + Royal Guard TIE + PTL + Autothrusters (32)
Carnor + Royal Guard TIE + PTL + Autothrusters (31)
Vader + TIE/x1 + Predator + Engine Upgrade + Advanced Targeting Computer (37)

Carnor harasses at range 1, soontir jousts, vader drops the hammer. Figure I'll bring 3 small asteroids, and place them as close to the corners as possible to give myself room to be really aggressive.

Although I guess now I can expect to see Paul's Worlds list, hm? Might be able to handle it.

Very similar to a list I was considering. It should do well imo but I dislike running in ties without SDs.

I had to make the cut somewhere to fit Vader in.

The previous revision was:

Soontir + PTL + AT + Targeting Computer
Carnor + PTL + AT + Stealth Device
Omicron Shuttle + Palpatine

and paying 29 points for a die modifier seems stupid, no matter how beefy it is. I don't mind making a cut on vader to fit in SD or TC, but everything seems mandatory.

apparently the pope mobile and aces work really well as long as you keep palpy back, loads of lists on worlds using it. Changing one dice per turn can really make a difference

I had also considered doing fully kitted Carnor+Soontir, and the Shuttle with Vader, Rebel Captive, Shield Upgrade. Run it front and center, and burn it down as quick as possible to load enemies with damage.

Basically: I'm waffling between the following.

quote:

100pts
Soontir + PTL + AT
Carnor + PTL + AT
Vader + Predator + TIE/x1 + Engine Upgrade + Advanced Targeting Computer

quote:

97pts
Soontir + PTL + AT + Targeting Comp
Carnor + PTL + AT + Stealth Device
Omicron Group Pilot + Palpatine

quote:

99pts
Soontir + PTL + AT + Targeting Comp
Carnor + PTL + AT + Steaklth Device
Omicron + Vader Crew + Rebel Captive + Shield Upgrade

And I'm not married to the Omicron build here.

Yeah, vader/gunner was a great choice for decimators for a while (against soontir and decent against corran).

That lets me do this then:

Carnor + PTL + AT + Stealth
Soontir + PTL + AT + TC
Omicron + Vader

However, that's only 92 points, and I feel like upgrading vader shuttle any more might just be a waste of points? Vader/Gunner brings me to 97 which still wins initiative handily. I like Carnor+Soontir, I'm just not sure what to run with them.

I like all the lists I've posted so far. I'm just not sure what I like best.

Omega Ace + PTL + Engine Upgrade
Soontir Fel + PTL + Royal Guard TIE + Autothrusters + Stealth Device
Darth Vader + Predator + TIE/x1 + Engine Upgrade + Adv. Targeting Computer

99 points.

It's at least something different than the Carnor Jax I see everybody else running.

I thought you guys were much better, Matt really demonstrated he knows his stuff and Mark was asking pertinent questions and keeping on the ball on the rolls.

One question on match 5 that was bugging me, did the decimator forget it's shield tokens or something? Seemed like corrans first attack he immediately drew damage cards.

At the end of the first round of shooting there's 8 damage cards on the deci. I have no idea what happened. If he did completely forget shields somehow, at least it didn't cost him the game.
