Motherfucking crackheads stole my rear license plate last night. Somehow I suspect if they'd stolen the car it would be less of a pain in the rear end than dealing with the DMV on this. Also waiting for the police to call me back so I can get a police report # so I can get new plates. . . . Meanwhile, my neighbor has pot plants growing unsecured and no one stole them.

I put security bolts on mine, then covered them with RTV. We had all of our plates stolen two years ago.

We're in a decidedly less sketchy area so I don't worry so much these day. Since we left the old complex I guess it got so bad that they had to hire full time 24 security.

So I went to Cars & Coffee this morning and that fucker with the S2000 was there. I've only been once this year as it was kind of a rough summer and it's been close to a year since I've seen this rear end in a top hat. Long story short, this guy's car has a salvage title and he harassed me for two years about trading cars when I never even remotely entertained the idea. So I'm leaned back talking to the old guard, having a good time and he walks by and says "You taking good care of my car?" in a nasally voice and I loving snapped. Thank god most of my friends are big guys because they knew to jump in as I lunged for that rear end in a top hat. Good goddamn it did I want to rip his head off. I've since cooled down but I'm probably going to have to murder his rear end at some point.

These were confidential plates (they just come up County Sheriff's dept) too, so it will all be even more of a pain in the rear end. I hope the DMV can just swap everything there because confidential plates are awesome. It also means that before I noticed they were stolen those fuckers were never getting pulled over.

Drove a buddies new (to him) AP1 s2000 the other day. Was surprised at how quiet the engine was at idle and low revs, very smooth and quiet compared to K-series engines. My FA5 is very clackity by comparison. I didn't get to cane it too badly, but I I snapped a couple of high rev shifts off and realized that its the best gearbox Ive ever used, and I want an s2000 now.

When I first started riding motorcycles, one of the things that surprised me was how much of an olfactory experience it is. Your own bike smells like gasoline, hot metal, and uncatalyzed exhaust. You can tell that a diesel truck drove through this area recently, and that the car up ahead has been braking hard. Go down into a valley and smell the damp moss on the rocks. Ride through the city and smell the bakery, the overflowing sewer, the soap store, the Chinatown fish market. Every smell tells you a new little story. Today, my entire ride home was filled with the overpowering distinctive aroma of WD-40, courtesy of a rusted-out Mazda 323 going the same way. You could smell it well after the car was long gone. It was kind of charming, in a way. leica posted:For some reason my son has been into RX8's lately and has been telling me i should get one. leica posted:So if no one will do it for free (shocking), how much would it cost you out of pocket to have a private specialist do it? Could you take out a loan or something? I guess i don't get the system at all over there but it sounds horrible. The system here isn't fully free like I think Canada and the UK is. It's half privatised. Some things cost, strings can be pulled, or you can pay. The government forces people who can afford it onto private health insurance USA style. It works, as in a stone broke idiot like me gets most of what he needs, and when I was working and had money I was paying into the system. If I was in the other fully free systems like UK or Canada, my GP couldn't have pulled strings for a free MRI the next week for example. If I had money/job/insurance I could get a knee replacement for 20k through my insurance and only pay my deductible of 1k or whatever. From what I have read (and what I have paid so far -$0), and how long I have waited for urgent care, seems like we have the best system. Been to the GP multiple times, he's referred me to specialist that charge nothing as he asks around for that personally, I only pay $6.10 for medication, been to hospital twice free etc. It's just a shame I cancelled my health insurance last december because I was broke, so now at the whim of private specialists/surgeons and how much they are willing to do a favour (and what I have got until now has been awesome because of this GP and his network), or go into the public system and wait a la UK or canada or any other socialised healthcare. But the point is Australia has the best of both worlds up to a point because it's not fully gov funded, or fully a private billing nightmare. I've been looking for that special...something of a bike frame for a while now. My old bike has been creaking in the bottom bracket since about 300 miles after I built it. The shell is ovaled and even a collet BB conversion won't quiet this fucker down. Every pedal stroke *creak*. I'm loving done. I had my eye on a specialized allez e5 smartweld frameset for a while now, but resigned myself to never owning such a gorgeous piece of hardware. I've been wanting a frame that isn't standard black/white/red like they all are for guys. I've been dreaming of a pink frame, no joke. Welp, after perusing some websites, I found one, in my size, at Richardson Bike Mart in Richardson, TX. I made the 242 mile drive and came home with my new baby. It's the single prettiest bike I've ever owned. I got it on clearance too, $300 off original price

Not a bad score at the swap meet today. I'll have to drill it out eventually to fit a T56 shifter, but whatever. $5. I'm gonna go see if I can clean it up and get some paint in the recess around the letters. Edit: About an hour's worth of sanding later: Started with 120, then up to 400, 1k, 2k, on up to 12k. Should look even better once I get a little paint on it. Edit 2: Not too bad. I'll clean it up a little bit more with some paper when the paint fully cures.
