when the borderlands pc version came out, the number of golden keys you had was in an editable text file. now you probably have to use cheat engine

The amount of golden keys you have in the PC version is stored in your profile. If you make it read only you can just use them up, reload, and do it again since your character/inventory are stored in your save and the keys are in your profile.
