chapter 5 is the last phantom thief quest.

the first two locations are the orbal factory and the third floor of the guild hall. i don't remember the third but i think it was easy.

The third was bullshit nonsense that doesn't have logic to it, it's a crane holding a box at the port

It may make some cultural logic in Japanese but "held reverently" or however it was phrased, while possibly the best that could be done, was rather hard to parse.

Also for those who are stuck trying to figure out what fish they're missing, here's a good fishing spreadsheet done by a GameFAQs user going by Guruda.

e: so I decided not to read all the (chapter 7/8 spoilers) datalog things in the true towers because I figured that I'd just read them off the computer which...is down because all orbments are down. Does anyone have a link to transcripts of them?

Random question, but is there any easy way to extract the character portraits from the game's files? Or alternatively, is there a good collection of character portraits from TitS FC and/or SC somewhere on the internet?

This Japanese tool works: http://www.pokanchan.jp/dokuwiki/software/falcnvrt/start

For PC assets, drop the *.dat files into it and hit the leftmost button.
e: Portraits are in ED6_DT05.dat for FC and ED6_DT25.dat for SC. The SD portraits extract fine, but the tools seems to have issues with the HD ones, the colors come out wrong for those.

For PSP assets, it expects the full game ISO as input, not the individual files. If you have a PSP you can extract an ISO from your PSN download with a homebrew tool called "NP Decryptor".

I finally finished FC today! I thought that I was gonna give myself a bit of a breather before I dove into SC, but I'm not sure I can just let that ending stand. :catstare:

Overall, I very much enjoyed the game! The final dungeon dragged on a bit, but I am very satisfied by how I managed to accidentally finish off every boss with Zane's smite. Amalthea? Smote. Richard? Smote. Giant fuckin' robot? SMOTE. Zane is a quality guy, especially with Olivier's casting to keep him alive.

Finished chapter 8 of SC just now. Holy balls that was so good. Definitely can't wait until I'm done with the whole thing!

On a less positive note, I'm pretty sure the only BP I've missed through the whole game has been 2BP from the prologue from answering one of the questions incorrectly. :( At least it apparently doesn't change much!

Chapter 8 making the enemies more aggressive in attacking you on the road is simultaneously both the best and the worst. It's the best because it's the plot/orbal lights on the roads not keeping monsters away from them and the worst because I guess I either have to equip something for it in somebody's orbment or put up with low-gain fights.

edit: There's a new enemy on top of amberl tower and it dropped a pretty cool accessory (shield orb, gave 50 def, +3 mov and +5 speed IIRC). Guessing that's the same in every region.

Pretty sure when you see her and Nial in the city, Nial specifically tells her to take as many pictures as she can and to use 'as much film as we can stuff in there' or something. Given that later, on the shielded ship where her camera presumably works, he's calling it 'photo-quartz' rather than film, she was probably using an older, non-orbal model earlier.

I just finished Chapter 5 and I'm doing some cleanup in Chapter 6 before I go to Valeria Shore. My team is all around level 68 right now. Do the Poms in Nebel Valley and the tower level up for chapter 6? I kind of wanted to eke out a couple more levels if I can.

Chapter 5 was pretty great but I'm surprised that Lorence was set up as Agate's rival. I figured from all the foreshadowing in FC that he'd be Joshua's but I guess he's gunning for the Professor. It's my understanding I'm coming up on a point of no return. Is there anything I need to grab before I go (other than the bracer quests and gambler jacks)?

There's a semi-hidden bracer quest to do somewhere in the Bose region that's not on the board. Also, you get the option to recruit Kevin for the last loose ends in Bose. If you didn't do so in Grancel, you might want to upgrade some of his orbment slots since he'll be coming along on the next mission.

Are you ever to actually fully read the data crystals? I could figure out some of the words when reading the crystals but not all of them. Eventually I just figured I'd wait till professor Russell is able to decrypt it, but he's decrypted it but I don't see where I can read them now.

I wasn't planning on starting SC right away, but the ending for FC was such... an ending that I wound up buying and starting SC last night. Man, the increase in quality is almost immediately apparent, especially the new music tracks. I only just had time to get to the part of the prologue where you get your orbments. So far, Kevin seems like a cool dude, and I'm excited to have Anelace in my party!

A quick question, though - what's a good build for Estelle? I didn't micromanage my orbments as much as I should have in FC, and now the game's asking me to fill up two whole orbment things from scratch? That's a lot of pressure, man.

Cake Attack
Mar 26, 2010

honestly for the most part builds are more reactive to what quartz you have and which high level ones you have sepith for than something fixed. Generally I'd give Estelle some healing since she's always in the party, then give her good physical stuff (atk, action, status ailments) and then try to tie that together into the highest tier magic possible

Levantine

I sorta loaded Estelle up with the specialty quartzes I found but she works best (for my party) with at least an Attack X and Hit X quartz along with Deathblow 1 to maximize True Hurricane carnage.

Currently in the middle of Chapter 9. I'd really love to have a funnier party (i.e. Olivier and Josette), but I'm enjoying blowing stuff away with Agate and Kloe too much to bother leveling the others up.

Decus
Feb 24, 2013
Yeah, I pretty much just put her with whatever utility stuff I got from guild rank and such. For most of the game she had heaven's eye and luck and septium vein on, with action x, attack x and a status. She can be a decent caster if you give her mind x and cast x, but I went with Schera and kept Kloe in my party as much as possible so I wanted a physical attacker which she can also do well enough. If I went with Agate and favoured Zane she'd have been a caster for sure. Heck, she has taunt so you could probably even try to full defense her and cast earth guard/wall even if Zane would be better at it.

Also, guessing the fishing achievement is bugged? It seemed to be counting every fish but the master fish, which is hilarious. Totally recommend fishing for trout/salmon at the lakeside inn during ch8 since they're temporarily removed from the tables making rainbow trout, which give every quartz, way more common. Way faster than fighting stuff even when you are pulling up x5 everything and way way way faster when you're pulling up x50 everything or even x25 everything.

smenj

I found Estelle best as an all-rounder/defensive tank. Gave her enough stuff to have a reasonable variety of arts to be able to fill in for any position in an emergency (so if I need to heal and my healer's turn isn't coming up for a while or somesuch), as well as plenty of defense and movement, so she's unlikely to go down and can run around with items to help the others out if necessary. With that setup, she can also do respectable damage when she needs to - although of course nowhere near Agate/Zane levels - but is mainly there to assist my more specialised party members into fulfilling their own roles as best they can. Plus she's got some useful crafts for hitting a bunch of enemies at once, or knocking several away to clear the field a bit. About the only disappointment is a lack of AT Delay crafts, but I've got other characters for that, I guess.

Final dungeon, I dealt with Fabolous with the correct people in the party. What's the order for the next boss battles and any non-obvious party member I should bring?
Like, when to bring Zane and Schera is a no-brainer, Tita for the angel of slaughter, but the bladelord? Agate maybe? Any boss battle where (SC party members)Kevin, Jiula, Josette or Muller are appropriate?

Loewe has something to say to everyone, I think. And you should bring whoever your favorites are to him anyway, since you can't change them out once you beat him.

Fight order is Blueblanc, Walter, Luci, Renne, Loewe by the way.

Finally finished SC. That was really, really excellent. End of chapter 8 was definitely the high point for me I reckon, what with everyone's plans coming together in one place, revelations about Olivier, etc. That was quite a bit to be hit with all at once, and the game pulled it off well.

Localisation was top-notch throughout, and I was left constantly lamenting the fact that I wasn't able to have all the characters with me at all times (especially Olivier, whenever he left the party), just to see how they'd react to everything. Massive thanks to everybody who spent so long working on it. :)

Here's hoping we eventually see the rest of them!
