That fake brings to mind something I've been pondering. Splatoon is pretty new, and as such it's currently still gated away from most of Nintendo's other IPs. Do you think this is good for game? Do you want it to stay this way? Would you prefer some Nintendo iconography begin showing up in Splatoon via gear and weapons?

According to the wiki, the Neo Sploosh-o-matic is Point Sensor/Kraken; the normal sploosh has beakons as a sub. I know because my partner is a sploosh fiend and has whooped me with it plenty of times!

There already are at least 3 references to Mario, (1. The super snails resemeble mario powerups. 2. There is an 8 bit t-shirt with coins and a green pipe, 3. There is grafitti of bloopers on some maps). These subtle easter eggs are pretty cool, but I don't think a full-blown crossover is needed. Nintendo should be proud of this IP and let it stand on it's own two feet, rather than keep relying on nostalgia. This is the only truly original Nintendo IP of this generation, and with it's use of the gamepad it is arguably the definitive Wii U title. I also reckon they will announce some new content tomorrow. I hope it isn't paid-for DLC this time, but I've got a feeling it might be.

Well, considering the last update gave more gear for free (in the real life sense), I would be surprised if we get non-free DLC. DLC map packs are certainly out of the question with how the game operates.

Finally ranked up to A- the other day, and the difference is insane. I know these guys aren't pro-tier like all you S folks (Lord knows I'm not even close) but at least it seems like everyone is trying and knows what they're doing, regardless of how good they may or may not be at it. Like, they go after the objective and attempt to capture/advance it rather than inking some random corner or trying to pad their k/d. Win or lose it at least feels like I played a real match. I mean, I realize I'm probably going to get "well actually A ranks still suck because" but even if that's the case it's night and day compared to C and B.

I felt the same way you did when I first got to A-, poo poo got real super quick. After getting to S rank my first match pitted me against of bunch of A+s. Its not the same jump as B+ to A-  Also it's splat zones tonight so gently caress that noise. Won one game and just hosed around in turf wars.

I'd like any other nintendo property inclusions to be limited to costumes, like the squid girl anime costume. I really like the lore and squid culture, so the idea of seeing a bunch of mario's or whoever in-game is kind of unpleasantly jarring to me. Meh, as long as it doesn't happen before playable Octolings.

How would they have handled it otherwise? Having the API lie about the upcoming maps may be in poor form. I guess if they really wanted to keep it a secret, they could have named the map "???" or kept a blank slot or something.
